Subepithelial connective tissue graft with or without enamel matrix derivative for the treatment of Miller class I and II gingival recessions: a cont…

2012

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the combination of enamel matrix derivative (EMD) with subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) plus coronally advanced flap (CAF) would improve the treatment outcomes of Miller class I and II gingival recessions when compared with the same technique (SCTG plus CAF) alone. Methods The study was designed as a randomized, parallel, controlled, double-blinded clinical trial. Forty-two patients were randomly assigned in the test group (SCTG plus EMD) and in the control group (SCTG). Patients had at least one gingival recession ≥ 2 mm. The clinical parameters were evaluated at baseline and at 14 d, 1, 3, 6 and 12 mo follow-up time poin…

Eleonora Duse's Library: The Disclosure of Aesthetic Value in Real Acting

2010

Even though Eleonora Duse (1858-1924) referred to her books as her own artistic wardrobe, her most highly valued possessions, scholars and biographers have insisted on neglecting her library and furthermore, have for many years considered it lost forever. This article explains the value of the founding and reconstructing of the Murray Edwards Eleonora Duse Collection in Cambridge. She specifically refers to a selection of books which have been renamed 'Cleopatra's Books'. They are remarkable examples which are representative of Duse's library as a whole and lay bare the roots of Duse's intellectual evolution. Many have believed the romantic notion that Duse acted out her own personal life o…

The form of "Denkraum":Tecnique and Representation in the Kreuzlingen Lecture

2013

In 1895 Aby Warburg decides to complement his theoretical research with field anthropological observation, directly experiencing habits, rituals and customs of the Hopi natives. Warburg meticulously documents his journey with his Box Camera Kodak, one of the first devices ever produced by the firm. Within the theoretical framework of unitary knowledge, that is a space of integration between different methods and disciplines, his choice of expressive media offers the opportunity to explore and experiment its peculiar potential. His interest in technique is combined with a non-formalistic aesthetic stance, according to which art coincides with a specifically hum biological need. It is then a …

Dall’iperestetica all’anestetica: la negazione dell’umano nella società dell’apparenza

2021

We live in the "society of the image" that obtunds sensitivity and produces indifference. The essay focuses on the obsessive search for a shal…

Impression(s)

2019

The articles presented in this cluster discuss literary and visual impressions from the premise that literary impressionism and printmaking share the trope of impression as “impress” and as “imprints” in a technical and epistemological sense. Most works on Impressionism and literary impressionism dwell on the genealogy and mutual influence of fiction and painting, but few authors tackle the importance of printmaking. The five essays presented here all examine impressions as theme, trope and technique in 19th and 20th-century texts and images. These essays discuss intermedial practices, the mutual influence of artistic practice and textual production, as well as the dual meaning of impressio…

Reconnecting Aestheticism and Modernism

2016

Charting the period that extends from the 1860s to the 1940s, this volume offers fresh perspectives on Aestheticism and Modernism. By acknowledging that both movements had a passion for the ‘new’, it goes beyond the alleged divide between Modernism and its predecessors. Rather than reading the modernist credo, ‘Make it New!’, as a desire to break away from the past, the authors of this book suggest reading it as a continuation and a reappropriation of the spirit of the ‘New’ that characterizes Aestheticism. Basing their arguments on recent reassessments of Aestheticism and Modernism and their articulation, contributors take up the challenge of interrogating the connections, continuities, an…
