In-training Pre-Primary education teachers’ perceptions of sustainability

2016

This communication shows an action carried out with a group of 62 students on the degree of kindergarten teachers in the field of sustainability training. a survey open format was intended to inquire about their perceptions of what it means for them and they sustainability, and the actions needed to achieve sustainable development actions was used. The initial findings of the study show that teachers in training participant, has an incomplete and biased knowledge on sustainable development and on the players that must be involved in finding solutions and actions to implement. The results also show that there are different perceptions deficits, which if not corrected will adversely impact wh…

Increased expression of leptin and the leptin receptor as a marker of breast cancer progression: possible role of obesity-related stimuli.

2006

Abstract Purpose: Recent in vitro studies suggested that the autocrine leptin loop might contribute to breast cancer development by enhancing cell growth and survival. To evaluate whether the leptin system could become a target in breast cancer therapy, we examined the expression of leptin and its receptor (ObR) in primary and metastatic breast cancer and noncancer mammary epithelium. We also studied whether the expression of leptin/ObR in breast cancer can be induced by obesity-related stimuli, such as elevated levels of insulin, insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), estradiol, or hypoxic conditions. Experimental Design: The expression of leptin and ObR was examined by immunohistochemistry…

Differential expression of estrogen receptors (ER?/ER?) in testis of mature and immature pigs

2004

High affinity estrogen receptors (ERs) mediate estrogen action in male reproductive tissues. The objective of the present study was the immunolocalization of estrogen receptor alpha and estrogen receptor beta in immature and mature testes of pig, a species in which the role of estrogens on gonadal function is scarcely known. Testes from 3 and 18 month-old pigs were investigated. Immunohistochemistry was performed on paraffin embedded-tissues using both mouse anti-human monoclonal IgG ERalpha and IgG ERbeta 1 isoform. Western blot analysis demonstrated antibody specificity. ERalpha staining was not observed in immature testes, but it was detected in spermatogonia, spermatocytes and in the mo…

Expressional control of the ‘constitutive’ isoforms of nitric oxide synthase (NOS I and NOS III)

1998

Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) exists in three established isoforms. NOS I (NOS1, ncNOS) was originally discovered in neurons. This enzyme and splice variants thereof have since been found in many other cells and tissues. NOS II (NOS2, iNOS) was first identified in murine macrophages, but can also be induced in many other cell types. NOS III (NOS3, ecNOS) is expressed mainly in endothelial cells. Whereas NOS II is a transcriptionally regulated enzyme, NOS I and NOS III are considered constitutively expressed proteins. However, evidence generated in recent years indicates that these two isoforms are also subject to expressional regulation. In view of the important biological functions of these …

Induction of 2-hydroxycatecholestrogens O-methylation: A missing puzzle piece in diagnostics and treatment of lung cancer

2022

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, causing nearly one million deaths each year. Herein, we present the effect of 2-methoxyestradiol (2-ME), the endogenous metabolite of 17β-estradiol (E2), on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. We observed that 2-ME reduced the viability of lung adenocarcinoma in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) spheroidal A549 cell culture models. Molecular modeling was carried out aiming to visualize amino acid residues within binding pockets of the acyl-protein thioesterases, namely 1 (APT1) and 2 (APT2), and thus to identify which ones were more likely involved in the interaction with 2-ME. Our findings suggest that 2-ME acts a…
