The oral corpora in Catalan and research into casual Catalan: the corpora of conversation and functional varieties of the Corpus de Català Contempora…

2020

2010

This text deals with the specificities of Publius rationale under both the time and the electoral constraints of the ratification debates. Far from being concerned with idle intellectual speculation, the authors of the Federalist Papers faced a political context that was so hostile to their views that the imperative for them was to create legitimacy for their proposal. Publius thus adjusted his views so that the new constitution would be constantly highlighted as an “elective” system where the content of “republicanism” was both altered and improved. His innovative ideas have nonetheless a limit in that they take the form of a “political recipe”—meant to answer specific objections. This for…

An “Objectivists” Anthology: from Manifesto to Tradition

2009

Chiral Oxazolidine Complexes Derived from Phenolic Schiff Bases

2020

Schiff bases derived from pyridyl- or salicyl-aldehydes and aminoalcohols can evolve to heterocyclic oxazolidines, which in the presence of cations allow the formation of uncommon coordination compounds. In this work, we report new NiII and mixed valence MnII/ MnIV complexes derived from pyridyl oxazolidines and the unprecedented characterization of enantiomerically pure oxazolidines derived from the condensation of o-vanillin with phenylglycinol in the presence of NiII cations. The different reactivity of the pyridinic or phenolic Schiff bases has been compared, and the new systems have been structurally, optically, and magnetically characterized.

Domain structure of epitaxial SrRuO3 thin films

2005

Growth of multidomains in epitaxial thin-film oxides is known to have a detrimental effect on some functional properties, and, thus, efforts are done to suppress them. It is commonly accepted that optimal properties of the metallic and ferromagnetic $\mathrm{SrRu}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ (SRO) epitaxies can only be obtained if vicinal $\mathrm{SrTi}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ (001) (STO) substrates are used. It is believed that this results from the suppression of multidomain structure in the SRO film. Here we revise this important issue. Nanometric films of SRO have been grown on STO(001) vicinal substrates with miscut $({\ensuremath{\theta}}_{V})$ angles in the $\ensuremath{\sim}0.04\ifmmode^\circ\else\te…

Les actions pour la petite enfance aux Etats-Unis

Giant barocaloric effects over a wide temperature range in superionic conductor AgI

2017

Current interest in barocaloric effects has been stimulated by the discovery that these pressure-driven thermal changes can be giant near ferroic phase transitions in materials that display magnetic or electrical order. Here we demonstrate giant inverse barocaloric effects in the solid electrolyte AgI, near its superionic phase transition at ~420 K. Over a wide range of temperatures, hydrostatic pressure changes of 2.5 kbar yield large and reversible barocaloric effects, resulting in large values of refrigerant capacity. Moreover, the peak values of isothermal entropy change (60 J K−1 kg−1 or 0.34 J K−1 cm−3) and adiabatic temperature changes (18 K), which we identify for a starting tempera…

Measurement of the mass and lifetime of the Ω(−)(b) baryon

2016

A proton-proton collision data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$ collected by LHCb at $\sqrt{s}=7$ and 8 TeV, is used to reconstruct $63\pm9$ $\Omega_b^-\to\Omega_c^0\pi^-$, $\Omega_c^0\to pK^-K^-\pi^+$ decays. Using the $\Xi_b^-\to\Xi_c^0\pi^-$, $\Xi_c^0\to pK^-K^-\pi^+$ decay mode for calibration, the lifetime ratio and absolute lifetime of the $\Omega_b^-$ baryon are measured to be \begin{align*} \frac{\tau_{\Omega_b^-}}{\tau_{\Xi_b^-}} &= 1.11\pm0.16\pm0.03, \\ \tau_{\Omega_b^-} &= 1.78\pm0.26\pm0.05\pm0.06~{\rm ps}, \end{align*} where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and from the calibration mode (for $\tau_{\Omega_b^-}$ only). A measurement …

Pulsed-field studies of the magnetization reversal in molecular nanomagnets

2004

We report experimental studies of crystals of Mn12 molecular magnetic clusters in pulsed magnetic fields with sweep rates up to 4x10^3 T/s. The steps in the magnetization curve are observed at fields that are shifted with respect to the resonant field values. The shift systematically increases as the rate of the field sweep goes up. These data are consistent with the theory of the collective dipolar relaxation in molecular magnets.
