La educación para la promoción de los derechos humanos de la tercera generación

2008

The paper deals with the ways to promote the third generation human rights through education. It underlines the evolutionary dynamism of human rights and the necessity to promote a culture based on their recognition. Solidarity is analysed as the value which specify this generation of rights. Then the author defends the rights to a healthy environment, to peoples’ development, and to peace, as key components of any international political community or local communities aiming to meet the requirements of human dignity. Finally, he proposes some pedagogical practices to help the students to become conscious and responsible citizens, so they have the competence to ask to individuals and groups…

Models, information and meaning

2018

Abstract There has recently been an explosion of formal models of signaling, which have been developed in order to learn about different aspects of meaning. This paper discusses whether that success can also be used to provide an original naturalistic theory of meaning in terms of information or some related notion. In particular, it argues that, although these models can teach us a lot about different aspects of content, at the moment they fail to support the idea that meaning just is some kind of information. As an alternative, I suggest a more modest approach to the relationship between the informational notions used in models and semantic properties in the natural world.

Not only 23F. PSOE and the autonomic rationalization (1978-1982)

2021

Patient’s Cross-border Mobility Directive: Application, Performance and Perceptions Two Years after Transposition

2016

Abstract This paper seeks to analyse the directive on the application of patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare. Two years after the transposition, it is time for first evaluations of its application, performance and perception. The analysis consists of three major elements: reconstruction of the legal scope and subject matter of the new legislation, conclusions of the evaluative reports monitoring its implementation and performance as well as the public opinion polls revealing the EU citizens’ perception of its details. These three components combined together deliver a picture of the state of play about the pan-European cross-border patients’ mobility. The bottomline conclusions nega…

Care Ethics in Universities: Beyond an Easy “Add and Stir” Solution

2019

espanolEl trabajo de Nel Noddings ha representado un profundo desafio para el pensamiento androcentrico en filosofia de la educacion. An Anthropological Insight on the Commonalities between Tourism and Archaeology

2019

Over the years, archaeology maturated towards something else than a scientific discipline. Archaeological sites are culturally showed as emerging and recycled tourist attractions (Robb 1998; Bateman 2006; Rowan & Baram 2004; Karlsson & Gustafsson, 2006). At a closer look, tourism is understood as a leisure activity which is enrooted in the needs of relaxing and evasion while archaeology -as a knowledge platform which is based on scientific method- explores the history of ancient cultures. This raises a more than interesting question respecting the commonalities and differences between archaeology and tourism. To some extent, archaeologists find ancient relics and objects whi…

Spiritual Tourism: Journey into the Heart of the Earth

2020

From the current context of contemporary spiritualities, we wanted to approach an emerging form of tourism known as spiritual or mystical tourism. In many instances this combines many elements of cultural, religious, nature and health tourism. However, spiritual tourism differs from these on a fundamental level. It is largely located in the borders of the tourism industry in that it is managed by its own protagonists, known as spiritual seekers. The work that follows is based on a group of spiritual seekers, all Spanish. This is why the work was carried out in Spanish and the original text is presented at the bottom of each page. This research is based on qualitative methodology, field obse…

COVID-19, Terrorism, and Conspiracy Plot: Everyone Is Guilty Until Proven Innocent

2021

COVID-19 is reaffirming the tendency of nation-states to find imaginary enemies when hit with a crisis—enemies to whom its origins and perpetuation could be attributed. This is needed for their unity and survival. However, a strong and serious global pandemic like COVID-19 would need the identification of strong and serious enemies. This is a dangerous proposition if taken to anywhere beyond rhetoric. China is identified as the antagonist; yet, a real confrontation with China would cause more harm than what COVID-19 might cause. It is essential that we lead the world toward a new war, “against a virus”. This chapter reflects the problem of hospitality, as strongly associated with conspiracy…
