Ferrocene compounds: methyl 1′-aminoferrocene-1-carboxylate
2010
The title compund, [Fe(C(5)H(6)N)(C(7)H(7)O(2))], features one strong intermolecular hydrogen bond of the type N-H...O=C [N...O = 3.028 (2) A] between the amine group and the carbonyl group of a neighbouring molecule, and vice versa, to form a centrosymmetric dimer. Furthermore, the carbonyl group acts as a double H-atom acceptor in the formation of a second, weaker, hydrogen bond of the type C-H...O=C [C...O = 3.283 (2) A] with the methyl group of the ester group of a second neighbouring molecule at (x, -y - 1/2, z - 1/2). The methyl group also acts as a weak hydrogen-bond donor, symmetry-related to the latter described C-H...O=C interaction, to a third molecule at (x, -y - 1/2, z + 1/2) t…
Conformational and structural studies of N-methylacetohydroxamic acid and of its mono- and bis-chelated uranium(VI) complexes
2015
The thermodynamics and kinetics of the cis/trans isomerism of N-methylacetohydroxamic acid (NMAH) and its conjugated base (NMA(-)) have been reinvestigated in aqueous media by (1)H NMR spectroscopy. Hindered rotation around the central C-N bond due to electronic delocalization becomes slow enough on the NMR time scale to observe both rotamers in equilibrium in D2O at room temperature. By properly assigning the methyl group resonances, evidence for the prevalence of the E over the Z form is unambiguously provided [K300=[E]/[Z]=2.86(2) and 9.63(5) for NMAH and NMA(-), respectively], closing thereby a long-lasting dispute about the most stable conformer. To that end, calculations of the chemic…
The Molecular and Crystal Structure of tert-Butyl N.ALPHA.-tert-Butoxycarbonyl-L-(S-trityl)cysteinate and the Conformation-Stabilizing Function of We…
2001
The title compound, C31H37NO4S [systematic name: (R)-tert-butyl-2-[(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino]-3-(tritylsulfanyl)propanoate] is an L-cysteine derivative with three functions: NH2, COOH and SH, blocked by protecting groups tert-butoxycarbonyl, tert-butyl and trityl, respectively. The main chain of the molecule adopts the extended, nearly all-trans C5 conformation with the intramolecular N-H...O=C hydrogen bond. The urethane group is not involved in any intermolecular hydrogen bonding. Only weak intermolecular hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic contacts are observed in the crystal structure. These are C-H...O hydrogen bonds and CH/pi interactions with donor...acceptor distances, C...O ca. 3.5 A a…
2,4,6-Trimethyl-N-nitroaniline
2007
In 2,4,6-trimethyl-N-nitroaniline (alternatively called mesitylnitramine), C9H12N2O2, the primary nitramino group is planar with a short N—N bond and is nearly perpendicular to the aromatic ring. The methyl group located in the para position is disordered, each H atom having half-occupancy. The molecules are linked together along the [100] axis by intermolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
Dioncophyllines C2, D2, and F and related naphthylisoquinoline alkaloids from the Congolese liana Ancistrocladus ileboensis with potent activities ag…
2017
Dioncophylline F (1), the first 5,8'-coupled dioncophyllaceous alkaloid (i.e., lacking an oxygen function at C-6 and possessing an R-configuration at C-3), was isolated from the recently described Congolese liana Ancistrocladus ileboensis. Two further, likewise Dioncophyllaceae-type, alkaloids, the dioncophyllines C2 (2) and D2 (3), were identified, along with the Ancistrocladaceae-type compound ancistrocladisine B (4), which is oxygenated at C-6 and S-configured at C-3. The structures of the new compounds were determined by spectroscopic, chemical, and chiroptical methods. The stereostructure of 1 was further confirmed by total synthesis. As a consequence of the lack of a methyl group orth…
The effect of β-methylation on the conformation of α, β-dehydrophenylalanine: a DFT study
2009
Dehydroamino acids are non-coded amino acids that offer unique conformational properties. Dehydrophenylalanine (ΔPhe) is most commonly used to modify bioactive peptides to constrain the topography of the phenyl ring in the side chain, which commonly serves as a pharmacophore. The Ramachandran maps (in the gas phase and in CHCl3 mimicking environments) of ΔPhe analogues with methyl groups at the β position of the side chain as well as at the C-terminal amide were calculated using the B3LYP/6-31 + G** method. Unexpectedly, β-methylation alone results in an increase of conformational freedom of the affected ΔPhe residue. However, further modification by introducing an additional methyl group a…
Intramolecular Interactions in the Triplet Excited States of Benzophenone–Thymine Dyads
2005
Time-resolved and product studies on the synthesized dyads 1 and 2 have provided evidence that the benzophenone-to-thymine orientation strongly influences intramolecular photophysical and photochemical processes. The prevailing reaction mechanism has been established as a Paterno-Büchi cycloaddition to give oxetanes 3-6; however, the ability of benzophenone to achieve a formal hydrogen abstraction from the methyl group of thymidine has also been evidenced by the formation of photoproducts 7 and 8. These processes have been observed only in the case of the cisoid dyad 1. Adiabatic photochemical cycloreversion of the oxetane ring is achieved upon direct photolysis to give the starting dyad 1 …
Spin lattice relaxation rates of tunnelling CD3 groups
1991
The spin lattice relaxation rates of deuterated methyl groups are calculated for threefold and sixfold potentials. It is shown that it should be possible to determine the symmetry of the potential hindering the methyl groups from deuteron spin lattice relaxation experiments. The temperature dependence of the spin lattice relaxation rates is discussed using a simple model. The similarities and the differences between proton NMR and deuteron NMR are pointed out. The main difference is thatEa↔Eb transitions are forbidden by spin selection rules in case of CH3, but not for CD3. Therefore, and due to the fact that the quadrupolar interaction is a single particle interaction, deuteron NMR allows …
Effect of the Substituent Position on the Anionic Copolymerization of Styrene Derivatives: Experimental Results and Density Functional Theory Calcula…
2019
In a combined synthetic, kinetic and theoretical study, the living anionic copolymerization of styrene and its ring-methylated derivatives ortho-, meta-, and para-methylstyrene (MS) was examined by real-time 1H NMR spectroscopy in the nonpolar solvents toluene-d8 and cyclohexane-d12 as well as by density functional theory calculations. Based on the NMR kinetics data, reactivity ratios for each comonomer pair were determined by the Kelen–Tudős method and numerical integration of the copolymerization equation (Contour software). The reaction pathway was modeled and followed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations to validate and predict the experimentally derived reactivity ratios. Un…
Influence of structure on the polarizability of hydrated methane sulfonic acid clusters
2015
Abstract: The relationship between polarizability and structure is investigated in methane sulfonic acid (MSA) and in 36 hydrated MSA clusters. The polarizabilities are calculated at B3LYP and MP2 level and further partitioned into molecular contributions using classic and iterative Hirshfeld methods. The differences in the two approaches for partitioning of polarizabilities are thoroughly analyzed. The polarizabilities of the molecules are found to be influenced in a systematic way by the hydrogen bond network in the clusters, proton transfer between MSA and water molecules, and weak interactions between water molecules and the methyl group of MSA.
