The experimental data of phase diagrams for both polyethylene oxide/poly(ethylene oxide-b-dimethylsiloxane) binary and toluene/polyethylene oxide/poly(ethylene oxide-b-dimethylsiloxane) ternary polymer-containing systems was obtained at atmosphere pressure by light scattering method. The critical points for some pre-selected compositions and the pressure effect on the phase transition behavior of ternary system were investigated by turbidity measurements. The chosen system is a mixture of ternary which is one of the very few abnormal polymer-containing systems exhibiting pressure-induced both miscibility and immiscibility. Xyloglucan-derived oligosaccharides induce ethylene synthesis in persimmon (Diospyros kaki L.) fruit

In this work the effect of injection of xyloglucan-derived oligosaccharides (XGOs) into whole persimmon (Diospyros kaki L.) fruits on ethylene biosynthesis was investigated. Fruits collected during different ripening stages produced low levels of ethylene without a climacteric-like peak. Pretreatment of these fruits with 10 cm 3 C 2 H4 m -3 for 8 h stimulated little or no endogenous ethylene production. However, when persimmon fruits were injected with a mixture of XGOs a burst in ethylene production was observed compared with water-injected control fruits or fruits injected with different monosaccharide solutions. Effects of ethylene and of 'anti-ethylene' compounds on the floral pedicel abscission zone in grapevines were analysed via a laboratory model consisting of isolated flowers held in Petri dishes. Our model permitted precise determination of abscission and enabled us to test a range of physiologically-active compounds including ethylene precursors, and antagonists of ethylene action. For example, a precursor of ethylene, 1-aminocyclopropane-l-carboxylic acid, had the same effect as ethylene in promoting abscission. Conversely, an inhibition of ethylene action by silver thiosulfate or an inhibition of ethylene synthesis by amino-oxyacetic acid both strongly inhibited abscission zone function. …

The thermal-oxidative and thermal-mechanical stability of high density polyethylene (chromium based catalyst technology) was examined at many different temperatures using a rheological approach. An ethylenediamine (EDA) and octadecylamine (-C18) hyaluronic acid (HA) derivative, named HA-EDA-C18, has been used for the production of interpenetrated composite biomaterials with silk fibroin. The peculiar ionic strength sensibility of this HA derivative allows the production of porous matrices without the need for chemical crosslinking. Scaffolds have been produced through a salt leaching procedure by exploiting the properties of silk fibroin and HA-EDA-C18 to physically crosslink when forced through a syringe loaded with NaCl. (1-Adamantyl)methyl glycidyl ether (AdaGE) is introduced as a versatile monomer for oxyanionic polymerization, enabling controlled incorporation of adamantyl moieties in aliphatic polyethers. Via copolymerization with ethoxyethyl glycidyl ether (EEGE) and subsequent cleavage of the acetal protection groups of EEGE, hydrophilic linear polyglycerols with an adjustable amount of pendant adamantyl moieties are obtained. Poly(ethylene-glycol) (PEG) is a polymer used to coat therapeutic preparations, like drugs or drug nanocarriers, and improve their efficacy. This effect is probably due to a reduction of the interactions of the coated species with the host organism. Nevertheless, experiments show that PEGylated materials do interact with the surrounding biological milieu, and in particular with blood proteins. Here, we use atomistic molecular dynamics simulations to characterize the interactions between the polymer and several blood proteins. Abstract A series of amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(n-alkyl glycidyl carbamate)s-b-poly(ethylene oxide) triblock copolymers were synthesized by reaction between poly(ethylene oxide)-b-polyglycidol-b-poly(ethylene oxide) precursor copolymer and four n-alkyl isocyanates: ethyl, propyl, butyl and pentyl. After dissolution in water at room temperature the copolymers spontaneously form micelles. The critical micellization concentrations were determined by UV–VIS spectroscopy.
