The Role of Elongational Flow in Morphology Modification of Polyethylene/OMMt Nanocomposite System

2011

The formulation of high-performance polymer based nanocomposites depend on many factors, such as polymeric matrix type, nanoparticle type, loading and morphology, affinity between the polymeric matrix and nanoparticles, presence of compatibilizer and processing conditions [1-4]. During the industrial processing the polymer based systems are subjected to two different processing flows, i.e. the shear and elongational flow. The shear flow plays a significant role in polyethylene/OMMt manufacture processing but it is not able to change the system morphology, while, the elongational flow, involved in spinning and film-blowing processing operations, can induce considerably clay morphology variat…

A procedure is described for the preparation of a block copolymer with A-B-A sequences in which ω-ω′-dihydroxy-poly-(ethylene glycol) is inserted between two polymeric monoacidic chains of polycaproamide and bonded to them by means of ester links. The resulting material was characterized. The copolymer is isomorphous with the polycaproamide. Thermal treatments induce a crystalline transition γ α as in polycaproamide. The influence of the moisture content on the glass transition temperature and on the storage modulus is discussed.

Cationic polymerization of 1,3,5-trioxan in cyclohexane yields polyoxymethylene which is partially stable to heat and to alkali but does not contain any of the known stable endgroups. These polymers possibly have a macrocyclic structure.

Cyclodehydration of Diols in Acidic Ionic Liquids

2011

Cyclodehydration of Diols in Acidic Ionic Liquids In the presence of sulfonic acid group functionalized Bronsted-acidic ionic liquids, cyclodehydration of 1,2-ethanediol and 1,4-butanediol is investigated. The role of structure and catalytic activity of ionic liquids on the formation of cyclic ethers: 1,4-dioxane and tetrahydrofuran - is determined.

Polymere Charge-transfer-Komplexe auf der Basis von Polyvinylalkoholacetalen

1978

Poly[2-(1-naphthyl)-1,3-dioxan-4,6-diylmethylene] (3), poly[2-(2-naphthyl)-1,3-dioxan-4,6-diylmethylene] (5), 1-naphthalenecarbaldehydetrimethyleneacetal (7) and 2-naphthalenecarbaldehydetrimethyleneacetal (8) were synthesized and characterized by UV- and fluorescencespectroscopy. In addition triplet-triplet absorption maxima and triplet-lifetimes were determined by flash technique. The naphthalene derivates were found to act as donors in the charge-transfer complex formation with such electron acceptors as tetracyanoethylene, 2,5-cyclohexadien-1,4-diylidenedimalonodinitrile and 2,4,5,7-tetranitro-9-fluorenone. The equilibrium constants of the charge-transfer complexes were determined spect…

Advanced descriptors for long-range noncovalent interactions between SARS-CoV-2 spikes and polymer surfaces.

2021

The recent pandemic triggered numerous societal efforts aimed to control and limit the spread of SARS-CoV-2. One of these aspects is related on how the virion interacts with inanimate surfaces, which might be the source of secondary infection. Although recent works address the adsorption of the spike protein on surfaces, there is no information concerning the long-range interactions between spike and surfaces, experimented by the virion when is dispersed in the droplet before its possible adsorption. Some descriptors, namely the interaction potentials per single protein and global potentials, were calculated in this work. These descriptors, evaluated for the closed and open states of the sp…

Photooxidation and Stabilization of Photooxidized Polyethylene and of its Monopolymer Blends

2003

The increasing use of products from recycled polymers, or from blends with recycled polymers exposed to the outdoors, implies the need for good weathering resistance. This is particularly important when the recycled material comes, in turn, from products exposed during their lifetime to the sun. In this case the presence of C=O groups in the macromolecular chains strongly increases the photooxidative degradation kinetics of these secondary materials. In this work the change of the photooxidative degradation of blends of virgin and photooxidized polyethylene was evaluated as a function of the C=O content present in the material. As expected, the presence of the C=O groups strongly increases …

Synthesis, characterization and catalytic properties for olefin polymerization of two new dimeric zirconium(IV) complexes having diamine-bis(phenolat…

2015

Abstract Reaction of the zirconium tetrachloride with one equivalent of the sodium salt of the diamine bis (phenolate) ligand, L1H2 (Me2NCH2CH2N-(CH2-2-OH-3,5-tBu-C6H2)2) or L2H2 (Me2NCH2CH2N-(CH2-2-OH-3,5-tBu-C6H2)(CH2-2-OH-C6H4)) in the presence of air led to formation of [Lig1ZrCl]2(μ-O) and [Lig2ZrCl]2(μ-O), respectively. These novel oxo-bridged dinuclear zirconium complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, 1H NMR spectroscopy and by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Their reactivities in polymerization of ethylene and 1-octene, upon activation with Al(iBu)3/Ph3CB(C6F5)4 and MAO, were examined. It was found that lack of t-Bu substituents on one phenolate ring cause a significan…

Thermal Analysis, Mechanical and Rheological Behaviour of Melt Manufactured Polyethylene/Liquid Crystal Polymer Blends

2011

Modification of properties of conventional thermoplastics with thermotropic liquid crystal polymers, from one hand, allows decrease their viscosities, substantially facilitating processing conditions, and, from another hand, allows increase their exploitation properties. Orientation of the labile structure of liquid crystal polymer in extrusion or injection moulding causes specific reinforcement (so-called self-reinforcement) to occur in the blends containing liquid crystal polymer. Up to now the effect of self-reinforcement is mostly investigated in the blends, containing considerable amount of liquid crystal polymer. In this research the effect of minor amounts of liquid crystalline co-po…

Polyethylene composites filled with n‐alkyl‐functionalized siloxane‐silsesquioxane resins and sol‐gel silicas

2019

High‐density polyethylene (HDPE) composites filled with silicon‐based fillers were prepared by melt blending. The use of non‐functionalized and n‐octyl‐functionalized siloxane‐silsesquioxane resins and the sol‐gel silicas as fillers allowed us to evaluate the influence of functionalization of the fillers on the properties of the composites. The melting and crystallization temperatures of the composites were found to be only slightly affected by the addition of the silicon‐based fillers. In turn, the crystallization degree values were increased, in particular for the materials containing non‐functionalized fillers. The free‐volume properties of the composites did not change significantly in …
