Aneurysm clipping following endovascular coil embolization: A report of two cases
2009
Abstract BACKGROUND: Treatment of intracranial aneurysms by Guglielmi detachable coil (GDC) embolization is a useful therapeutic alternative to surgery. This procedure is attractive as a minimally invasive approach to treat cerebral aneurysms; however, is not devoid of complications or failure and retreatment, with either a surgical or endovascular technique, may often be required. CASE REPORTS: Two cases are presented in which surgery was required after coil embolization. In one case, surgical treatment was performed one month later because of regrowth and subsequent bleeding of the aneurysm. In the second case, surgical treatment was carried out six months later because of recanalization …
Layer-by-Layer Adsorption: The Solid/Liquid-Interface as a Template for the Controlled Growth of Well-Defined Nanostructures of Polyelectrolytes, Pro…
1994
This report describes the construction of ultrathin films whose structure can be tailored on the molecular scale. The resulting supramolecular film architectures may include functional biological macromolecules such as proteins or polynucleotides. The average distances of two functional layers can be adjusted on the nanometer scale (from less than lnm to several tens of nanometers), with a precision of approximately 0.1 nm. This control is achieved by varying the number and the thickness of the polyelectrolyte interlayers and requires the capability of steering each adsorption step with high accuracy. A crucial factor is the fabrication and manipulation of the film surface at each adsorptio…
Entropy of balance--some recent results.
2010
Abstract Background Entropy when applied to biological signals is expected to reflect the state of the biological system. However the physiological interpretation of the entropy is not always straightforward. When should high entropy be interpreted as a healthy sign, and when as marker of deteriorating health? We address this question for the particular case of human standing balance and the Center of Pressure data. Methods We have measured and analyzed balance data of 136 participants (young, n = 45; elderly, n = 91) comprising in all 1085 trials, and calculated the Sample Entropy (SampEn) for medio-lateral (M/L) and anterior-posterior (A/P) Center of Pressure (COP) together with the Hurst…
Goldmann Tonometry After Hyperopic Laser In Situ Keratomileusis
2004
PURPOSE To identify differences in applanation tonometry between retreated and nonretreated eyes (primary LASIK eyes) 6 months after hyperopic laser in situ keratomileusis. METHODS In a prospective study 100 eyes (100 patients) underwent conventional hyperopic laser in situ keratomileusis under a 160-microm flap. Central Goldmann applanation tonometry was determined before and 6 months after surgery in 78 (78%) primary LASIK eyes and before surgery and 6 months after the retreatment date in 22 (22%) retreated eyes. RESULTS Preoperative mean tonometry was 14.96 +/- 1.96 mm Hg and 15.30 +/- 1.95 mm Hg in primary LASIK and retreated eyes, respectively. Six months after surgery it was 12.99 +/-…
Multicenter Phase I Study of Erdafitinib (JNJ-42756493), Oral Pan-Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor Inhibitor, in Patients with Advanced or Refractor…
2018
AbstractPurpose:Here, we report results of the first phase I study of erdafitinib, a potent, oral pan-FGFR inhibitor.Patients and Methods:Patients age ≥18 years with advanced solid tumors for which standard antineoplastic therapy was no longer effective were enrolled (NCT01703481). Parts 2 to 4 employed molecular screening for activating FGFR genomic alterations. In patients with such alterations, two selected doses/schedules identified during part 1 dose-escalation [9 mg once daily and 10 mg intermittently (7 days on/7 days off), as previously published (Tabernero JCO 2015;33:3401-8)] were tested. Results:The study included 187 patients. The most common treatment-related adverse events were…
A Highly Decreased Binding of Cyclic Adenosine Monophosphate to Protein Kinase A in Erythrocyte Membranes is Specific for Active Psoriasis
2002
A cyclic adenosine monophosphate binding abnormality in psoriatic erythrocytes that could be corrected by retinoid treatment has been reported. It was tested whether this binding abnormality is specific for psoriasis and the effects of treatment were compared with etretinate, cyclosporine A, or anthralin on 2-(3)H-8-N(3)-cyclic adenosine monophosphate binding to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A in erythrocyte membranes. One hundred and fifteen individuals were evaluated, including: (i) 34 healthy persons; (ii) 15 patients with nonatopic inflammatory skin diseases (eczema, erythroderma, tinea, Grover's disease, erysipelas, urticaria); (iii) eight with other dermatoses mediated by i…
Phase 1/2 study of cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK)4/6 inhibitor palbociclib (PD-0332991) with bortezomib and dexamethasone in relapsed/refractory multi…
2015
This phase 1/2 study was the first to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4/6-specific inhibitor palbociclib (PD-0332991) in sequential combination with bortezomib and dexamethasone in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma. The recommended phase 2 dose was palbociclib 100 mg orally once daily on days 1-12 of a 21-day cycle with bortezomib 1.0 mg/m2 (intravenous) and dexamethasone 20 mg (orally 30 min pre-bortezomib dosing) on days 8 and 11 (early G1 arrest) and days 15 and 18 (cell cycle resumed). Dose-limiting toxicities were primarily cytopenias; most other treatment-related adverse events were grade≤3. At a bortezomib dose lower than that in other combina…
Bevacizumab in association with de Gramont 5-fluorouracil/folinic acid in patients with oxaliplatin-, irinotecan-, and cetuximab-refractory colorecta…
2009
BACKGROUND: The aim of the current study was the investigation of the value of bevacizumab + 5-fluorouracil(5–FU)/folinic acid in patients with advanced colorectal cancers who have exhausted standard chemotherapy options. METHODS: The authors included 48 heavily pretreated patients (colon:rectum, 33:15; men:women, 23:25; median age, 63 years; range, 27-79 years) whose disease had progressed during or within an oxaliplatin-based first-line chemotherapy, an irinotecan-based second-line regimen, and a third-line treatment with cetuximab plus weekly irinotecan. Bevacizumab was given at a dose of 5 mg/kg. 5-FU/folinic acid was administered according to the de Gramont schedule. RESULTS: The respo…
Intrauterine therapy of goitrous hypothyroidism in a boy with a new compound heterozygous mutation (Y453D and C800R) in the thyroid peroxidase gene. …
2004
We report the results of intrauterine L-thyroxine therapy, and the long-term follow-up in a fetus who presented at 32 weeks' gestation with goitrous hypothyroidism, hyperextension of the neck, and polyhydramnios. Spontaneous delivery was possible and hypothyroidism improved. Molecular analysis revealed a new compound heterozygous mutation (Y453D/C800R) in the TPO gene.
