Following traumatic brain injury (TBI) neuroinflammatory processes promote neuronal cell loss. Alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) is a neuropeptide with immunomodulatory properties, which may offer neuroprotection. Due to short half-life and pigmentary side-effects of α-MSH, the C-terminal tripeptide α-MSH(11–13) may be an anti-inflammatory alternative. The present study investigated the mRNA concentrations of the precursor hormone proopiomelanocortin (POMC) and of melanocortin receptors 1 and 4 (MC1R/MC4R) in naive mice and 15 min, 6, 12, 24, and 48 h after controlled cortical impact (CCI). This contribution analyses the difference between the enforcement system provided for by the European Union legal system and the one set up by the World Trade Organisation. The reciprocal and bilateral nature of the WTO obligations and the possibility for the parties to a dispute to have recourse to negotiation (in ways not always foreseen and regulated by the Dispute Settlement Understanding) in order to resolve the issue of implementation in the post-adjudication phase of the dispute settlement procedure are features that by-and-large differentiate the WTO legal system from that of the EU and also explains the differences between the remedies provided for by the two systems.

El sistema escolar en la ciudad de Valencia en el siglo XV

En la València de finals de l’Edat Mitjana existí una reduïda inserció de l’ensenyament de les lletres en el món de l’aprenentatge domèstic. Per a les famílies benestants, l’escola de gramàtica era la prolongació de l’ensenyament domèstic allí on no arribava la competència paterna. L’església era l’única institució que, fins finals del segle XIV, comptava amb els mitjans i personal necessari per a mantenir escoles. A partir de 1373 la intervenció municipal posà fi al monopoli eclesiàstic. Durant el segle XV coexistiren les escoles subvencionades per l’esglèsia i pel municipi, juntament amb altres d’independents.

The development of international health from a historical point of view has undergone major advances in recent times and constitutes a substantial part of the current agenda for historians of medicine. Within this framework, and focussing on a specific case study (international responses to poliomyelitis outbreaks in the 20th century), we explore the main actions and achievements of agencies such as the WHO and other private and international scientific organizations. Furthermore, this paper seeks to identify the Spanish presence and absence in these activities, their causes and consequences.

El artículo muestra la utilización del mito que hace Pasolini en su película Medea (1969), en la que contrapone el mundo arcaico, bárbaro y mágico de Medea al moderno, civilizado y racional de Jasón. La oposición no implica solo un plano temporal (pasado / presente), sino también espacial (Europa / Oriente), y sirve al escritor y cineasta para expresar su crítica a la alienación de la cultura europea en un sentido amplio, que comprende desde las relaciones humanas a la justicia y la religión. Todos estos aspectos se articulan en una película de extraordinaria densidad cuya riqueza significativa no se agota en esta propuesta de análisis.
