Assessment of air passive sampling uptakes for volatile organic compounds using VERAM devices

Abstract A calibration chamber has been designed and employed for the simple and easy determination of uptake sampling rate (RS) of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from air using passive samplers. A flow of clean air was continuously spiked, at a constant VOC concentration, by the microinjection of a standard solution by means of a T-type tube. The developed system allowed the complete evaporation at room temperature of the standard solution in acetone and the air concentration of VOCs was easily controlled by the regulation of the clean air flow, the standard solution concentration and its flow. A numerical model of the cloud-topped planetary boundary-layer: cloud processing of aerosol particles in marine stratus

Abstract In a numerical study with the one-dimensional chemical microphysical stratus model CHEMISTRA the effect of stratiform clouds on aerosol particles is investigated. The microphysical part of CHEMISTRA consists of a detailed description of cloud microphysical processes by means of a joint two-dimensional particle distribution for aerosols and cloud droplets. In the chemical part of the model the particle spectrum is subdivided into three categories referring to inactivated aerosols, small and large cloud droplets. Summary In a globally warming climate, observed rates of atmospheric evaporative demand have declined over recent decades. Several recent studies have shown that declining rates of evaporative demand are primarily governed by trends in the aerodynamic component (primarily being the combination of the effects of wind speed (u) and atmospheric humidity) and secondarily by changes in the radiative component. This article reports on recent on-line yield measurements employing the light-ion and heavy-ion reaction-based ion guide systems and new results on a-recoil ion transport properties in ion guides with and without electric fields. In addition, the presently used ion guide designs for fusion evaporation reactions are introduced. The present study investigated different schemes for ion extraction from the gas cell. Decay pathways of small gold clusters

The decay pathway competition between monomer and dimer evaporation of photoexcited cluster ions Au + n, n = 2-27, has been investigated by photodissociation of size-selected gold clusters stored in a Penning trap. For n > 6 the two decay pathways are distinguished by their experimental signature in time-resolved measurements of the dissociation. For the smaller clusters, simple fragment spectra were used. As in the case of the other copper-group elements, even-numbered gold cluster ions decay exclusively by monomer evaporation, irrespective of their size. Forward $J/\psi$ and very backward jet inclusive production at the LHC

In the spirit of Mueller-Navelet dijet production, we propose and study the inclusive production of a forward $J/\psi$ and a very backward jet at the LHC as an observable to reveal high-energy resummation effects \`a la BFKL. We obtain several predictions, which are based on the various mechanisms discussed in the literature to describe the production of the $J/\psi$, namely, NRQCD singlet and octet contributions, and the color evaporation model.
