Comparing the cycling behaviours of Australian, Chinese and Colombian cyclists using a behavioural questionnaire paradigm.

2020

Cyclists are vulnerable road users and face disproportionately high rates of road trauma, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Behaviour of road users is a system outcome, and thus studying cyclist behaviours can identify problems in the whole road transport system and assist in generating long-lasting, cost-effective solutions to promote cyclist safety. This study aims to investigate the similarities and disparities of cycling behaviour among countries with different income levels and cycling prevalence, and the relationships among cyclist demographic characteristics, behaviours and crash involvement. It applies the Cycling Behaviour Questionnaire (CBQ) to measure the behaviour …

Teaching in Higher Education: Students’ Deep Learning of Brewing by Labwork

2019

Abstract The amount of theoretical and practical information to be given to students from engineering food specialty is increasingly greater. Within this perspective, it is important to use teaching-learning methods which to develop students’ cognitive ability through the efficient by of them of knowledge acquired at fundamental and specialized disciplines. The article aims to present in an integrated graphical manner the laboratory entitled “Determination of alcoholic concentration of beer by distillation” within the discipline of “Technology and control in the malt and beer industry” that is taught to students in the field of Food Engineering. The integrative approach to the laboratory th…

Difficulties in Teaching Modelling: A French-Spanish Exploration

2017

An exploratory research study based on an online questionnaire in order to better understand difficulties encountered in teaching of mathematical modelling in France and Spain is presented. This questionnaire takes into account biographical variables, mathematics and modelling conceptions of pre-service teachers, teachers, researchers and education inspectors, from primary to tertiary education. Regarding difficulties, heterogeneous conceptions are revealed, and the analysis constructs four clusters, from positive and confident conceptions to negative and lacking confidence. In some cases, the roles of some biographical variables are indicated such as country, age, gender or school level th…

Immunohistochemical detection of EWS and FLI-1 proteinss in Ewing sarcoma and primitive neuroectodermal tumors: comparative analysis with CD99 (MIC-2…

2001

The molecular analysis of the t(11;22) rearrangement involving EWS/FLI-1 genes is likely to be of diagnostic value in Ewing sarcoma (ES) and primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNET). The objective of the current study was to analyze the immunohistochemical expression of the EWS and FLI-1 proteins in a group of small round-cell tumors (SRCT) to determine their specificity and relevance in their differential diagnosis. Forty-eight cases-10 conventional ES, 4 large-cell ES, 5 PNET, 9 neuroblastomas (NB), 6 undifferentiated synovial sarcomas (SS), 5 rhabdomyosarcomas (RB), 5 non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL), 1 round-cell liposarcoma, and 3 mesenchymal chondrosarcomas-were analyzed. Analysis of furan in coffee of different provenance by head-space solid phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry: effect of brewing…

2009

A simple, sensitive and accurate method for the analysis of furan in roasted coffee has been used based on headspace-solid-phase micro-extraction (HS-SPME) coupled to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The extraction was performed using 75-microm carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane fiber. Ionic strength, extraction time and temperature, and desorption time were assessed as the most important parameters affecting the HS-SPME procedure and d(4)-furan was used as the internal standard. The linearity range was in the range 0.0075-0.486 ng g(-1); the LOD and LOQ calculated using the signal-to-noise ratio approach were 0.002 and 0.006 ng g(-1), respectively. The inter- and intra-day precisio…

La vocalidad del violín en el norte de Italia en torno a 1600

2021

Throughout the present research I intend to demonstrate the powerful link between the vocal practice in accompanied monody and the way Early Italian violin music ought to be interpreted. Due to the scarce amount of articulation and ornamentation in this music, I consider that historical criteria should be found in order to back up the subjective choices in its performance. According to this, I focus on reviewing sources that describe the vocal practice around 1600, but also contemporary sources in which we can find instructions addressed to bow instruments. Besides, a catalogue of articulations and ornamentations present in early editions of printed violin music is attached. Last, I comment…

Integral Imaging Monitors with an Enlarged Viewing Angle

2015

Enlarging the horizontal viewing angle is an important feature of integral imaging monitors. Thus far, the horizontal viewing angle has been enlarged in different ways, such as by changing the size of the elemental images or by tilting the lens array in the capture and reconstruction stages. However, these methods are limited by the microlenses used in the capture stage and by the fact that the images obtained cannot be easily projected into different displays. In this study, we upgrade our previously reported method, called SPOC 2.0. In particular, our new approach, which can be called SPOC 2.1, enlarges the viewing angle by increasing the density of the elemental images in the horizontal …

Extended View Angle Integral Imaging 3D Display using Smart Pseudoscopic-to-orthoscopic Conversion with Head Tracking

2016

We overview a head tracking integral imaging display using the smart pseudoscopic-to-orthoscopic conversion method. The crosstalk for a large viewing angle in integral imaging is eliminated by generating a new set of elemental images.

Head Tracking Three-Dimensional Integral Imaging Display Using Smart Pseudoscopic-to-Orthoscopic Conversion

2016

A novel head tracking three-dimensional (3D) integral imaging display is presented. By means of proper application of the smart pseudoscopic-to-orthoscopic conversion (SPOC) method, our display allows an extended viewing angle accommodated to the viewer's position which is obtained by a head/eye tracking system. Using the SPOC, new sets of elemental images are calculated and adapted to any specific viewing position. Additionally, the crosstalk which is typical in conventional integral imaging, is eliminated for a large viewing angle. By performing the rotation transformation in the simulated display, viewing a 3D scene with head rotation can be realized for robust display. Experimental resu…

Progress in 3-D Multiperspective Display by Integral Imaging

2009

Three-dimensional (3-D) imaging techniques have the potential to establish a future mass-market in the fields of entertainment and communications. Integral imaging (InI), which can capture and display true 3-D color images, has been seen as the right technology for 3-D viewing for audiences of more than one person. Due to the advanced degree of its development, InI technology could be ready for massive commercialization in the coming years. This development is the result of a strong research effort performed over the past few years. In this sense, this paper is devoted to reviewing some recent advances in InI, which have allowed improvement in the response of InI systems to the problems of …
