Melampolides from Enydra anagallis

2001

The investigation of an Argentine collection of Enydra anagallis afforded sesquiterpene lactones of the melampolide type two of which were previously known. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Fil: Bardon, Alicia del Valle. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Centro Científico Tecnológico Conicet - Tucumán. Investigations on organoantimony compounds

1977

Abstract Trichlorodiorganoantimony(V) compounds, R2SbCl3, in which the antimony atom is part of a heterocyclic ring have been synthesized. They have been converted into the corresponding tetramethylammonium tetrachlorodiorganoantimonates, [R2SbCl4]− [Me4N]+, which are hexacoordinate diorganoantimony(V) species in which the antimony-carbon bonds are forced into a cis-position. 5,5,5-Trichlorodibenzostibole, 10,10,10-trichlorophenoxantimonin, 5,5,5-trichloro-5,10-dihydrodibenz[b, e]antimonin and 5,5,5-trichloro-10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[b, f]stibepin have been prepared by chlorination of the corresponding heterocyclic chlorodiarylstibines. Heterocyclic trichlorodialkylantimony(V) compounds hav…

Stochastic acceleration in generalized squared Bessel processes

2015

We analyze the time behavior of generalized squared Bessel processes, which are useful for modeling the relevant scales of stochastic acceleration problems. These nonstationary stochastic processes obey a Langevin equation with a non-Gaussian multiplicative noise. We obtain the long-time asymptotic behavior of the probability density function for non-Gaussian white and colored noise sources. We find that the functional form of the probability density functions is independent of the statistics of the noise source considered. Theoretical results are in good agreement with those obtained by numerical simulations of the Langevin equation with pulse noise sources.

Structure finding in cosmological simulations: the state of affairs

2013

The ever increasing size and complexity of data coming from simulations of cosmic structure formation demands equally sophisticated tools for their analysis. During the past decade, the art of object finding in these simulations has hence developed into an important discipline itself. A multitude of codes based upon a huge variety of methods and techniques have been spawned yet the question remained as to whether or not they will provide the same (physical) information about the structures of interest. Here we summarize and extent previous work of the "halo finder comparison project": we investigate in detail the (possible) origin of any deviations across finders. To this extent we decipher…

Mechanistic Understanding of Food Effects: Water Diffusivity in Gastrointestinal Tract Is an Important Parameter for the Prediction of Disintegration…

2013

Much interest has been expressed in this work on the role of water diffusivity in the release media as a new parameter for predicting drug release. NMR was used to measure water diffusivity in different media varying in their osmolality and viscosity. Water self-diffusion coefficients in sucrose, sodium chloride, and polymeric hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) solutions were correlated with water uptake, disintegration, and drug release rates from trospium chloride immediate release tablets. The water diffusivity in sucrose solutions was significantly reduced compared to polymeric HPMC and molecular sodium chloride solutions. Water diffusivity was found to be a function of sucrose concen…

Topological classification of 4-dimensional complete intersections

1996

Let X,,(d) C C P "+r denote a complete intersection, the transversal intersection of r hypersurfaces in C P ~+r defined by r homogeneous polynomials of degrees (d l , . . . ,dr) =: d, with dld2...d,. =: d the total degree. It is well-known that the diffeomorphism type of X,,(d) is determined by n and d. In [7] and [8], Libgober and Wood showed that in dimension n -~ 2, there exist k distinct multidegrees ibr any integer k 6 N such that the corresponding complete intersections are all diffeomorphic. For n = 1,3, the diffeomorphism classification of Xn(d) is well-known by surface theory and the classification of 1-connected six-manifolds [12] respectively. For 7z = 2, at least the topological…

New construction of algebro-geometric solutions to the Camassa-Holm equation and their numerical evaluation

2011

An independent derivation of solutions to the Camassa-Holm equation in terms of multi-dimensional theta functions is presented using an approach based on Fay's identities. Reality and smoothness conditions are studied for these solutions from the point of view of the topology of the underlying real hyperelliptic surface. The solutions are studied numerically for concrete examples, also in the limit where the surface degenerates to the Riemann sphere, and where solitons and cuspons appear.

Semiflexible Polymers in Spherical Confinement: Bipolar Orientational Order Versus Tennis Ball States

2017

Densely packed semiflexible polymers with contour length L confined in spheres with radius R of the same order as L cannot exhibit uniform nematic order. Depending on the chain stiffness (which we vary over a wide range), highly distorted structures form with topological defects on the sphere surface. These structures are completely different from previously observed ones of very long chains winding around the inner surface of spheres and from nematic droplets. At high densities, a thin shell of polymers close to the sphere surface exhibits a tennis ball texture due to the confinement-induced gradual bending of polymer bonds. In contrast, when the contour length of the chains is significant…

Droplets pinned at chemically inhomogenous substrates: A simulation study of the two-dimensional Ising case

2016

As a simplified model of a liquid nanostripe adsorbed on a chemically structured substrate surface, a two-dimensional Ising system with two boundaries at which surface fields act is studied. At the upper boundary, the surface field is uniformly negative, while at the lower boundary (a distance L apart), the surface field is negative only outside a range of extension b, where a positive surface stabilizes a droplet of the phase with positive magnetization for temperatures T exceeding the critical temperature Tw of the wetting transition of this model. We investigate the local order parameter profiles across the droplet, both in the directions parallel and perpendicular to the substrate, vary…

Commissioning of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer with cosmic rays

2010

The ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider has collected several hundred million cosmic ray events during 2008 and 2009. These data were used to commission the Muon Spectrometer and to study the performance of the trigger and tracking chambers, their alignment, the detector control system, the data acquisition and the analysis programs. We present the performance in the relevant parameters that determine the quality of the muon measurement. We discuss the single element efficiency, resolution and noise rates, the calibration method of the detector response and of the alignment system, the track reconstruction efficiency and the momentum measurement. The results show that the detector i…
