Estimating radiant fields in flat heterogeneous photoreactors by the six-flux model
2006
Heterogeneous photoreactor modeling is a task complicated by the integro-differential nature of the Radiation Transfer Equation (RTE) when scattering phenomena are important. In the present work, a novel “Six Flux Model” (SFM) is proposed, which may be regarded as a step forward with respect to the previously proposed “Two Flux Model” (TFM). In order to validate the newly proposed model, Monte Carlo simulations of an indefinite plane-slab photoreactor have been performed. As no simplifying assumptions are involved in this case, the information obtained may be regarded as “pseudo-experimental,” and therefore compared with the predictions of both TFM and SFM models. Results show that the nove…
DNA Oxidation Photoinduced by Norharmane Rhenium(I) Polypyridyl Complexes: Effect of the Bidentate N,N′-Ligands on the Damage Profile
2018
Re(I)--polypyridyl complexes have interesting and distinctive photochemical and photosensitizing properties. This work describes the capability to induce (or photoinduce) DNA damage of three Re(I)-complexes with a naturally occurring alkaloid called norharmane (nHo) as ligand: [Re(CO)₃ (nHo)(L)]CF₃ SO₃ where L=2,2'-bipyridine (ReBpy), phenanthroline (RePhen) or dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine (ReDppz). The interaction of the complexes with DNA was investigated by steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy. Data show that the mode and strength of interaction depend on the chemical structure of the bidentate ligand. The complexes show a major static contribution to the overall interaction, …

NanoSIMS: insights into the organization of the proteinaceous scaffold within Hexactinellid sponge spicules.
2010
The giant basal spicules (GBS) from Monorhaphis chuni (Porifera [sponges], Hexactinellida) represent the largest biosilica structures on Earth and can reach lengths of 300 cm (diameter of 1.1 cm). The amorphous silica of the inorganic matrix is formed enzymatically by silicatein. During this process, the enzyme remains trapped inside the lamellar-organized spicules. In order to localize the organic silicatein scaffold, the inside of a lamella has been analyzed by nano-secondary ion mass spectrometry (NanoSIMS). It is shown that the GBSs are composed of around 245 concentrically arranged individual siliceous lamellae. These surround an internal siliceous axial cylinder. The lamellae adjacent…
Investigations on organoantimony compounds XI. Triorganoantimony(V) compounds containing potentially tridentate ligands
1974
Triorganoantimony(V) compounds of the types RSbVL, in which R = Me or Ph, and L represents a potentially tridentate dianionic Schiff base ligand of the ONO or SNO type, have been synthesized and investigated by spectroscopic (UV, IR, PMR) methods. Molecular weight determinations in benzene reveal the monomeric nature of these compounds. The free ligands, HL, used in this study are:,′-(methylidynenitrilo)diphenol (HSab), -(o-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazoline (H-Sat), -(o_hydroxyanilino)crotonophenone (HBah), 4-(o-hydroxyphenylimino)--pentanone (HAah) and -acetonyl--methylbenzothiazoline (HAat). Both the UV and the IR data suggest hexacoordinate molecular structures for the complexes RSbL in whic…
Poisson-Nijenhuis structures and the Vinogradov bracket
1994
We express the compatibility conditions that a Poisson bivector and a Nijenhuis tensor must fulfil in order to be a Poisson-Nijenhuis structure by means of a graded Lie bracket. This bracket is a generalization of Schouten and Frolicher-Nijenhuis graded Lie brackets defined on multivector fields and on vector valued differential forms respectively.
BICKEL–ROSENBLATT TEST FOR WEAKLY DEPENDENT DATA
2012
The aim of this paper is to analyze the Bickel–Rosenblatt test for simple hypothesis in case of weakly dependent data. Although the test has nice theoretical properties, it is not clear how to implement it in practice. Choosing different band-width sequences first we analyze percentage rejections of the test statistic under H0 by some empirical simulation analysis. This can serve as an approximate rule for choosing the bandwidth in case of simple hypothesis for practical implementation of the test. In the recent paper [12] a version of Neyman goodness-of-fit test was established for weakly dependent data in the case of simple hypotheses. In this paper we also aim to compare and discuss the …
Finnish Students’ Engagement in Science Lessons
2015
The decreasing number of students who are engaged in science learning has been recognised as a problem. The pre-conditions of engagement and actual engagement were examined using a novel research method to obtain detailed information on Finnish students’ engagement in different situations and to gain a better understanding of this phenomenon. The study’s participants consisted of 68 students (31 girls, 37 boys) from 9th grade and 67 students (46 girls, 21 boys) from 1st grade in upper secondary school. The research aimed to answer the following question: How does Finnish students’ engagement occur in exact and life science lessons? Participants received smartphones equipped with a smartphon…
5,5′-Bis-vanillin derivatives as discriminating sensors for trivalent cations
2015
[EN] Several bis-vanillin derivatives containing semicarbazone moieties have been prepared and used in discriminating trivalent cations. The prepared probes are readily obtained and they are usually highly crystalline. Depending on the ligand and the studied cations, quenching, enhancement or no changes in the fluorescence spectrum were observed. Using a series of the prepared ligands allows distinguishing between Fe3+, Cr3+ and Al3+. Detection limits and selectivity in front of divalent cations have been evaluated. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
