Proton exchange membrane fuel cell made of magnetron sputtered Pt–CeO and Pt–Co thin film catalysts

2015

Abstract Preparation of catalysts for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) is of growing interest during last years. The magnetron sputtering technique is a promising method of catalyst preparation because it permits to synthesize catalysts in a fast and relatively less expensive way, however control of specific surface and durability of such catalysts still remains the main concern. We tested a single cell PEMFC catalyzed by using exclusively thin film approach by combining state-of-the art Pt-doped cerium oxide anode and a new Pt–Co alloy cathode. We have shown that beside very high mass activity of the catalysts relative to the membrane electrode assembly the catalyst nanoporous …

High efficiency of Pt2+ - CeO2 novel thin film catalyst as anode for proton exchange membrane fuel cells

2016

Abstract The elevated price of Pt limits the large-scale implementation of commercial proton exchange membrane fuel cells, which effectively convert chemical energy into electricity. In order to increase the cost-efficiency in proton-exchange membrane fuel cells, we have designed a family of novel anode catalysts consisting of thin films of ceria with low Pt loadings sputtered on a nanostructured carbon support. Remarkably, only such small amounts of Pt are necessary for achieving power density values comparable to the reference commercial catalysts, which results in excellent specific activities of our samples. By combining photoelectron spectroscopy and catalytic performance analysis, we …

A Simulation Model of a Tandem Coordinated Supply Chain

2010

This paper presents a study of a coordinated production inventory-system. In the proposed model, any echelon considers its successors as part of its inventory system and generates the replenishment order on the basis of operational information of its partners. We show that the coordinated decision making allows elimination of information distortion along the chain. Furthermore, we show how the bottom-up transmission of inefficiencies, typical of traditional supply chains, is avoided.

Analysing Incentive Strategies to Promote Participation in Crowdsourcing Systems

2016

In this paper, we define two strategies for crowdsourcing systems to encourage users to participate at a cost that is close to the optimal cost for the system. In the scenario considered, the system has temporal constraints and potential participants have dynamic behaviors related to the expected rewards (i.e., users’ expected rewards in exchange of their contributions change over time). We propose and evaluate two types of strategies that promote participation of users through monetary rewards that can change as time passes in order to adapt them to the population dynamic behaviors.

Exchange rates expectations and chaotic dynamics: a replication study

2018

Abstract In this paper the author analyzes the behavior of exchange rates expectations for four currencies, by considering a re-calculation and an extension of Resende and Zeidan (Expectations and chaotic dynamics: empirical evidence on exchange rates, Economics Letters, 2008). Considering Lyapunov exponent-based tests results, they are not supportive of chaos in exchange rates expectations, although the so-called 0–1 test strongly supports the chaos hypothesis.

Ferrimagnetic Heisenberg chain; influence of a random exchange interaction

1985

We report on the magnetic behavior of ‘‘rigid’’ ferrimagnetic chains isolated in bimetallic complexes of the EDTA and ‘‘flexible’’ ones obtained in the amorphous variety. As shown by LAXS, the only noteworthy difference in the amorphous state is the random distribution of bond angles between nearest neighbors within chains. The ‘‘rigid’’ bimetallic chains in CoNi(EDTA)6H2O are described in terms of Heisenberg model with an exchange coupling J=−7.5 K. The behavior of the amorphous variety somewhat differs, following the law X=AT−0.8 typical of REHAC. A classical spin chain model involving a J distribution and alternating g factors allows to explain successfully the temperature dependence of …

Isolation of oligopeptides from the water-soluble extract of goat cheese and their identification by mass spectrometry

2001

A procedure for the separation and identification of small peptides from the water-soluble fraction of a goat cheese was developed. The water-soluble extract was ultrafiltered (1000 Da membrane cutoff), and peptides were isolated by sequential chromatography: size exclusion chromatography (HPLC-grade water), anion exchange chromatography (phosphate buffer gradient), and semipreparative reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (water/acetonitrile gradient). The fractions obtained were analyzed by combined mass spectrometry methods including electrospray ionization, liquid secondary ionization, and tandem mass spectrometry to identify and to confirm the sequences of 28 tri- to oct…

High-performance and ion-exchange chromatography and chromatofocusing of the human uterine progesterone receptor: its application to the identificati…

1984

Two independent lines of evidence were used to identify the human uterine progesterone receptor. First, three differently tritiated progestogens (Org 2058, R 5020, progesterone) were used for reversible labelling of the receptor. Secondly, the highly potent affinity label 21-[3H]dehydro Org 2058 was used to label covalently the steroid-specific binding site of the receptor. The labelled cytosols were chromatographed on a Mono Q high-performance anion-exchange column in the absence or presence of a high molar excess of the respective unlabelled competitor steroids. In the case of 21-[3H]dehydro Org 2058, Org 2058 was used as the unlabelled competitor. After elution with a NaCl gradient, the …

Understanding the local reactivity in polar organic reactions through electrophilic and nucleophilic Parr functions

2013

[EN] Building upon our recent studies devoted to the bonding changes in polar reactions [RSC Advances, 2012, 2, 1334 and Org. Biomol. Chem., 2012, 10, 3841], we propose herein two new electrophilic, P-k(+), and nucleophilic, P-k(-), Parr functions based on the spin density distribution at the radical anion and at the radical cation of a neutral molecule. These local functions allow for the characterisation of the most electrophilic and nucleophilic centres of molecules, and for the establishment of the regio- and chemoselectivity in polar reactions. The proposed Parr functions are compared with both, the Parr-Yang Fukui functions [J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1984, 106, 4049] based on frontier molecul…

Magnetic Study of a Pentanuclear {Co 2 III Co 3 II } Cluster with a Bent {Co II 3 } Motif

2014

We have synthesised and structurally characterised a new pentanuclear mixed-valent cobalt cluster of formula [CoII3CoIII2(OH)2(piv)6(L)2(H2O)4] (piv = trimethylacetate, H2L = salicylideneanthranillic acid) from reaction of a dinuclear cobalt pivalate precursor with a Schiff base type ligand under mild reaction conditions. The core structure can be conveniently described as two fused Co3–μ3–OH triangles with a strict unique sharing vertex point. A complete picture of the magnetic behaviour of this compound is presented. Through combined use of susceptibility, magnetisation, and EPR data as well as broken-symmetry DFT calculations, we have supported the magnetic data that show weak and anisot…
