F-resolved magneto-optical resonances in theD1excitation of cesium: Experiment and theory

Bright and dark nonlinear magneto-optical resonances associated with the ground state Hanle effect have been studied experimentally and theoretically for ${D}_{1}$ excitation of atomic cesium. This system offers the advantage that the separation between the different hyperfine levels exceeds the Doppler width, and hence transitions between individual levels can be studied separately. At the same time, the system retains the advantages offered by ordinary glass cells, including simplicity and subnatural width Hanle resonances. X(5) critical-point symmetries in 138Gd

International audience; The lifetimes of low-lying transitions in 138Gd have been measured using the recoil-distance Doppler-shift technique. The resultant reduced transition probabilities have been compared to X(5) critical-point calculations to assess the potential 'phase-transitional' behaviour of 138Gd. The X(5) symmetry describes the first order 'phase transition' between sphericity, U(5) and an axially deformed nuclear shape, SU(3). Clustering effects in 48Cr composite nucleus produced via the reaction 24Mg + 24Mg at the excitation energy of 60 MeV

The reaction 24Mg + 24Mg was used to produce the composite nucleus 48Cr at 60 MeV of excitation energy where a narrow resonance (170 KeV) has been found by measuring the elastic and inelastic channels. To determine the occurrence of deformation of this compound nucleus and its possible connection with the resonances and the hypothetical cluster structure, evaporative Light Charged Particles (LCP) were measured and compared to Statistical Model (SM) predictions. The experiment was performed at LNL using the 8πLP apparatus. Coulomb excitation of exotic nuclei at the R3B-LAND setup

Exotic Ni isotopes have been measured at the R3B-LAND setup at GSI in Darmstadt, using Coulomb excitation in inverse kinematics at beam energies around 500 MeV/u. As the experimental setup allows kinematically complete measurements, the excitation energy was reconstructed using the invariant mass method. The GDR and additional low-lying strength have been observed in 68Ni, the latter exhausting 4.1(1.9)% of the E1 energy-weighted sum rule. Also, the branching ratio for the non-statistical decay of the excited 68Ni nuclei was measured and amounts to 24(4)%.

Dealing with contaminants in Coulomb excitation of radioactive beams

Abstract Data analysis of the Coulomb excitation experiment of the exotic 206Hg nucleus, recently performed at CERN’s HIE-ISOLDE facility, needs to account for the contribution to target excitation due to the strongly-present beam contaminant 130Xe. In this paper, the contamination subtraction procedure is presented.

New developments on the recoil distance doppler-shift method

Absolute transition probabilities are fundamental observables for nuclear structure. The recoil-distance-Doppler-shift (RDDS) technique, also called plunger technique, is a well established tool for the determination of these important experimental quantities via the measurement of lifetimes of excited nuclear states. Nowadays nuclear structure investigations are concentrated on exotic nuclei which are often produced with extremely small cross sections or with very low beam intensities. Throughout the history of nuclear structure studies, searches for new phenomena have been carried out at the extremes. These extremes can be described in terms of nuclear excitation energy, spin, or in terms of proton or neutron number through the production of exotic nuclei far from stability. Determination of the B(E3, 0+ → 3−)-excitation strength in octupole-correlated nuclei near A ≈224 by the means of Coulomb excitation at REX-ISOLDE

The IS475 collaboration conducted Coulomb-excitation experiments with postaccelerated radioactive 220Rn and 224Ra beams at the REX-ISOLDE facility. The beam particles (Ebeam ≈ 2.83 MeV/u) were Coulomb excited using 60Ni, 114Cd, and 120Sn scattering targets. De-excitation γ-rays were detected employing the Miniball array and scattered particles were detected in a silicon detector. Exploiting the Coulomb-excitation code GOSIA for each nucleus several matrix elements could be obtained from the measured γ-ray yields. Spin polarized electron transport and partial localization of photoelectrons in highly doped photocathodes

The results of experimental and theoretical studies of spin polarized electron transport in semiconductor SL used for photoemitter application are presented. The experimental study is based on the time resolved measurements of electron emission from the cathode after its photoexcitation by fs laser pulse. The response and spin relaxation times have been determined by means of measured time dependent intensity and polarization of electron emission. We also performed theoretical calculations of photocathode pulse response and compared the obtained results with experimental data. Quantum Monte Carlo study of the alternating extended Peierls–Hubbard model applied to the trans-polyacetylene

Abstract The one-dimensional alternating Peierls–Hubbard model is especially interesting as nontrivial model for conjugated polymer chains, such as polyacetylene. We study this model for chains of 64 sites using the determinantal method based on Hubbard–Stratonovich transformation. We obtain the first electronic energies and their mean fluctuations at half-filling as a function of the on-site electron–electron interaction (both short and long range U, V coupling are considered). We also study the effect of the electron–electron interaction on the dimerization by investigating some of the important correlation functions, such as spin–spin correlation, on-site charge and the specific heat.
