Peculiarities in fragment mass distribution in the 238U + 40Ar (243 MeV) reaction

2001

A pronounced fine structure (FS) in the form of distinct peaks was observed in neutron gated mass spectra from the decay of the 278110 composite system produced in the reaction 238U + 40Ar (243 MeV) at an initial excitation energy E * > 70 MeV. The FS peaks are located in the vicinity of mass numbers 70-80, 100, and 130, which correspond to those of magic nuclei (clusters). In the data there is also evidence for a new type of decay -- collinear cluster tripartition of an excited nucleus.

Testing refined shell-model interactions in thesdshell: Coulomb excitation ofNa26

2015

Background: Shell-model calculations crucially depend on the residual interaction used to approximate the nucleon-nucleon interaction. Recent improvements to the empirical universal $sd$ interaction (USD) describing nuclei within the $sd$ shell yielded two new interactions---USDA and USDB---causing changes in the theoretical description of these nuclei.Purpose: Transition matrix elements between excited states provide an excellent probe to examine the underlying shell structure. These observables provide a stringent test for the newly derived interactions. The nucleus $^{26}\mathrm{Na}$ with 7 valence neutrons and 3 valence protons outside the doubly-magic ${}^{16}\mathrm{O}$ core is used a…

Shape coexistence in the A ∼ 70 region including neutron-proton interaction and unnatural-parity correlations in the mean field

1992

Abstract The recent investigations of the shape-coexistence phenomena dominating the structure of the even-even nuclei in the A ∼ 70 mass region are extended by introducing neutron-proton and unnatural-parity correlations in the mean field, while keeping the time-reversal invariance and the axial-symmetry restrictions. Selected low-lying states in 68Ge, 72Ge and 72Kr nuclei are investigated within the FED VAMPIR or EXCITED FED VAMPIR approaches. The results obtained using real and complex mean fields in a relatively large model space are compared with the experimental data. Similar qualitative features are obtained with both real and complex calculations concerning the evolution of the shap…

Many-body approach to the inclusive (e,e ') reaction from the quasielastic to the Delta excitation region

1997

We have performed a many body calculation of the inclusive (e,e') cross section which runs over the three traditional regions at intermediate energies: the quasielastic peak, the dip region and the delta region. The longitudinal and transverse response functions in the quasielastic peak have also been evaluated. Traditional effects like polarization, meson exchange currents, final state interaction and delta renormalization in the nuclear medium have been included. Meson exchange currents are generated from a model of pion electroproduction on the nucleon which reproduces accurately the experimental data. The inclusive cross section accounts for 1N,2N,3N mechanisms of virtual photon absorpt…

Meson retardation in deuteron electrodisintegration

2004

The effect of meson retardation in $NN$-interaction and exchange currents on deuteron electrodisintegration is studied in a coupled channel approach including $NN$-, $N \Delta$- and $\pi d$-channels. It is shown that the influence of retardation depends on the energy regime: Whereas below $\pi$-threshold calculations with static and retarded operators yield almost identical results, they differ significantly in the $\Delta$-region. Especially, the longitudinal and the longitudinal-transverse interference structure functions are strongly affected.

Coulomb breakup of 23O

2005

Abstract The ground-state structure of the near-drip-line nucleus 23O has been investigated in a one-neutron Coulomb breakup reaction. Differential cross sections d σ / d E * for electromagnetic excitation of 23O projectiles (422 MeV/nucleon) incident on a lead target have been obtained from the measurement of the momenta of all breakup products including γ rays. The analysis of the deduced dipole-transition probability into the continuum infers a 2 s 1 / 2 ⊗ O 22 ( 0 + ) ground state configuration with a spectroscopic factor of 0.77(10) and thus a ground-state spin I π ( O 23 ) = 1 / 2 + , resolving earlier conflicting experimental findings. Final-state interaction is of significant influe…

Enhancement of nucleon-nucleon cross section in sidewards flowing nuclear matter through zero sound mode excitation

1998

We investigate the modification induced on the nucleon-nucleon cross section by screening of the interaction inside nuclear matter. The interaction is described by the relativistic one boson exchange of $\sigma$, $\omega$ and $\pi$ mesons. Medium effects enter as loop corrections to the meson propagators and are characterized not only by density, but also by temperature and velocity with respect to the center of mass of the collision. The cross section displays peaks for some specific values of the velocity, corresponding to the excitation of zero-sound modes of the longitudinal $\omega$ field. The enhancement factor amounts to about 1.5 under reasonable conditions. It increases with densit…

Pygmy dipole resonance in208Pb

2012

Scattering of protons of several hundred MeV is a promising new spectroscopic tool for the study of electric dipole strength in nuclei. A case study of 208Pb shows that at very forward angles J^pi = 1- states are strongly populated via Coulomb excitation. A separation from nuclear excitation of other modes is achieved by a multipole decomposition analysis of the experimental cross sections based on theoretical angular distributions calculated within the quasiparticle-phonon model. The B(E1) transition strength distribution is extracted for excitation energies up to 9 MeV, i.e., in the region of the so-called pygmy dipole resonance (PDR). The Coulomb-nuclear interference shows sensitivity to…

Nuclear potentials for sub-barrier fusion and cluster decay inC14,O18+Pb208systems

2007

Near-barrier fusion excitation functions for the $^{14}\mathrm{C}$ and $^{18}\mathrm{O}+^{208}\mathrm{Pb}$ reactions have been analyzed in the framework of the barrier-passing model using different forms of the nuclear potential and the phenomenology of a fluctuating barrier. The best-fit fusion potentials were used to estimate cluster decay probabilities from the corresponding ground states of Ra and Th (i.e., for the inverse decay process). The analysis supports the ``\ensuremath{\alpha}-decay-like'' scenario for carbon and oxygen emission from these nuclei.
