The European Quality Framework for Traineeships - What Can the EU Learn from Spain?

2014

For many years, traineeships have been used as an excuse for “hiring” cheap labour. This usual problem has been exacerbated by the economic crisis. The regulation approved by the European Council, on a Quality framework for traineeships, has great similarities with the regulation enforced in Spain a long time ago. This regulation has not achieved the expected results in this country, so it will be difficult for it to obtain them in its spreading throughout Europe. Thus, this study compares and analyses the failures of this type of regulation, in order to ensure quality traineeships for young people, and offers solutions to those failures through an alternative regulation, simplified and mor…

Sustainable tourism and global warming: panacea, excuse, or just an accidental connection?

2012

PurposeThe debate linking tourism with global warming is very polemical: neither camp engaged in the debate sees the other side. Sustainable tourism is seen by some as a panacea to mitigate the negative impact of tourism on global warming, and by many others as a ploy planted by post‐industrial society to divert attention from the core issues. A few see it as just an accidental relationship. This paper aims to be a reflective essay on the current state of polemics relating to tourism and global warming.Design/methodology/approachA critical review of relevant literature coupled with original reflections of the authors forms the basis of argument employed in this paper. In certain ways, this …

2014

Music in Duras’s works – analysed primarily in terms of intertextuality – is an element that creates the structure and sets the pace of the text. It provides an excuse to present feelings and thoughts of the characters, their hidden desires and yearnings. Music soothes the pain of parting, lets listeners forget about their problems, and brings forward true passions that cannot be put into words.  Duras’s fondness of music is manifested by her attitude to reality and her vision of love. A piece of music with its depth and richness in a way reflects the inner self of the author.

Participación ciudadana y populismos: una contradicción no aparente

2018

Conceptual changes in lease accounting: Regulatory and academic challenges

2019

The analysis concentrates on episodes of self-control talk where a participant referred to loss of self-control when accounting for his violent behavior.

Is unintentional doping real, or just an excuse?

2017

Although some athletes who engage in doping do so willingly in order to gain an unfair advantage (ie, ‘to cheat’), the possibility of athletes doping inadvertently or unintentionally cannot be discounted. In this article, we aim to address common misconceptions of the notion of ‘unintentional doping’, and discuss this topic with reference to statistics, reports and recommendations (eg, anti-doping codes) produced by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), together with evidence from recent empirical research. Unintentional doping (also known as ‘inadvertent’ or ‘accidental’ doping) refers to the accidental consumption of performance-enhancing substances included on WADA’s banned list.1 It ofte…
