Exercise precision medicine for type 2 diabetics : Targeted benefit or risk?

2023

Concurrent exercise and metformin administration may reduce the acute and chronic effects of exercise on glucose metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, several studies suggest that combing metformin and exercise treatment may have no additive effect and even cause adverse effects in T2D patients. This case report aimed to highlight the challenges associated with prescribing exercise to type 2 diabetes patients undergoing metformin treatment. A 67-years old woman was followed-up for 5 months, including assessment of the acute and chronic glucose and lactate metabolism induced by concomitant exercise and metformin. The findings were four-fold: 1) During a high-intensity i…

Perceived Opportunities for Physical Activity and Willingness to Be More Active in Older Adults with Different Physical Activity Levels

2021

This study examined equity in physical activity (PA) by investigating whether perceived opportunity for PA was associated with willingness to be more active. Among community residents (75, 80, or 85 years old, n = 962) perceived opportunity for PA (poor and good), willingness to be more active (not at all, a bit, and a lot), and level of PA (low, moderate, and high) were assessed via questionnaires. Multinomial logistic regression showed that physical activity moderated the association between poor opportunity and willingness to increase PA. Among those with moderate PA, poor opportunity for PA increased the odds of willingness to be a lot more active (multinomial odds ratio, mOR 3.90, 95% …

Aivoverenkiertohäiriön sairastaneiden tasapainoharjoittelun vaikuttavuus RCT-tutkimusten perusteella : evidence on the effectiveness of balance train…

2013

Aineisto ja menetelmät: Systemaattinen kirjallisuushaku tehtiin Ovid Medline, CINAHL, Embase, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials sähköisistä tietokannoista sekä käsihaulla. RCT-tutkimukset, joissa koehenkilöiden ikä oli yli 18- vuotta ja jotka oli julkaistu en…

Device-based physical activity levels among Finnish adolescents with functional limitations

2019

Background Monitoring physical activity among young adolescents with disabilities is a top academic priority. People with disabilities are a diverse group with various abilities in different human functioning. Therefore, we used a novel approach through functional limitations as a marker for disabilities and examined physical activity levels. Objective To investigate the levels and differences in light (LPA) and moderate-to-vigorous (MVPA) intensity physical activity between young adolescents with and without functional limitations. Methods The study included young adolescents (n = 1436) aged 11–15 years olds who attended general schools that were part of the 2016 Finnish School-aged Physic…

Longitudinal and cross-sectional associations of adherence to 24-hour movement guidelines with cardiometabolic risk

2022

This study aimed to examine 1) adherence to 24-hour movement guidelines over a 2-year follow-up in children aged 6-8 years and 2) association of this adherence with cardiometabolic risk factors. Physical activity and sleep were assessed by a monitor combining heart rate and accelerometry measurements. Screen time was reported by the parents. Body fat percentage, waist circumference, blood glucose, serum insulin, plasma lipids and blood pressure were assessed, and a cardiometabolic risk score was calculated using z-scores. Children were classified as meeting the guidelines if they had on average ≥60min/day of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity during the valid days; ≤120min/day of screen…

Effects of home-based physical exercise on days at home, healthcare utilization and functional independence among patients with hip fractures : a ran…

2021

Objective To evaluate the effects of a physical exercise program on days lived at home, the use and costs of healthcare and social services mortality and functional independence among patients with hip fractures. Design Randomized controlled trial with parallel two-group design, consisting of a 12-month intervention and 12-month registry follow-up. Setting Home-based intervention. Participants Patients with operated hip fracture, living at home, aged ≥60 years, randomized into physical-exercise (n=61) or usual-care (n=60) groups. Intervention Supervised physical exercise twice a week. Main Outcome Measures The primary outcome was the number of days lived at home over 24 months. Secondary ou…

El edificio gremial de los abaixadors o tundidores, en Valencia

2020

In the ?barri del mercat?, in the city of Valencia and very close to its Lonja, there is a building complex which is the object of this study. The research, carried out from the simple field of toponymy, to the constructive analysis, lead us to suppose that it is the building of the Valencian trade union of cloth-shearers. It can be seen how the building now camouflaged by other subsequent interventions, corresponds to a type that cannot be related to those usually built in the city of Valencia. Its origins clearly from the Valencian self-governing period splendor, its dimensions and the finishes used in its construction seem to refer to a medieval workshop. Considerations for the Analysis of Small Extracellular Vesicles in Physical Exercise

2020

Physical exercise induces acute physiological changes leading to enhanced tissue cross-talk and a liberation of extracellular vesicles (EVs) into the circulation. EVs are cell-derived membranous entities which carry bioactive material, such as proteins and RNA species, and are important mediators of cell-cell-communication. Different types of physical exercise interventions trigger the release of diverse EV subpopulations, which are hypothesized to be involved in physiological adaptation processes leading to health benefits and longevity. Large EVs (“microvesicles” and “microparticles”) are studied frequently in the context of physical exercise using straight forward flow cytometry approach…
