Abstract Objective: To analyse skin temperature asymmetries in response to asymmetrical exercise demand in archers. Approach: The skin temperature of the trunk and upper limbs was measured in 30 archers with an infrared camera at three different moments: before (Pre), immediately after (Post), and 10 min after (Post10) a simulated competition (18 warm-up shots and 72 qualifying round shots). Experiments with 10 athletes resulted in close correlations of RPE-scores to strain (heart rate) as well as to stress (work load). The comparison of both relations reveals that in the examined range of stress resp. strain the influence of stress predominates the influence of strain on the perceived exertion.

Life-threatening chronic cor pulmonale occurred in a 22-year-old woman with congenital 3 degrees atrioventricular block, 6 years after implantation of a pacemaker and 3 1/2 years after removal of the pacemaker (the electrodes were too firmly attached to be removed). The emboli originated from the right-atrial thrombi which had formed around the electrodes left in situ. The embolic source shrank during systemic administration of urokinase, initially 600,000 IU in 60 min, then 100,000 IU per hour, and pulmonary perfusion improved transiently. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between mental fatigue induced by a demanding cognitive task and impaired physical performance in endurance due to a higher perception of effort. Sport science research has done little to elaborate on the cognitive factors that turn a collection of individual players into a coordinated elite team. The purpose of this paper is to clarify if the players and coach of an elite soccer team express shared situational awareness. Ten players and one coach were exposed to twelve video pictures from a previous soccer match, and their statements for each picture were recorded and analyzed using a qualitative approach. The activities of p-nitrophenylphosphatase, beta-glucuronidase and beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase from crude skeletal muscle homogenates of 4 and 7 months old mice were assayed after short-term intensive and long-term moderate training and after terminated training. In the older untrained mice the activity of the hydrolases was higher than in the younger mice. The level increased with training and this increase was far more pronounced in the older animals. Cessation of training for 7 and 21 days decreased this activity in the older animals but it was again increased 42 days later and close to the level observed in the trained mice. Proteolytic capacity in mouse cardiac muscle was analyzed 1, 3, and 6 days after exhaustive intermittent or submaximal prolonged running. No significant changes were recorded in the activities of acid or alkaline proteases, β-glucuronidase or trypsin inhibitor. Similarly, no changes were found in the rates of acid or neutral autolysis.

In Latvia textile industry workers suffer from work-related muscular skeletal disorders (WRMSD). The aim of the research is to study the causes of WRMSDs for the tailor’s profession in a medium- sized enterprise. This research involved 120 tailors. Modified Standardized Nordic questionnaire, Borg Scale of Perceived Exertion, Key indicator method was used for analysis of physical workload during manual handling operations.
