Constraints to new physics models for the proton charge radius puzzle from the decayK+→μ++ν+e−+e+

A possible explanation for the discrepancy between electronic and muonic hydrogen measurements of the proton charge radius are new, lepton-universality violating interactions. Several new couplings and particles have been suggested that account for this discrepancy. At present, these explanations are poorly constrained. Experiments such as the upcoming kaon decay experiment at JPARC may constrain or eliminate some explanations by sensitivity to the decay channel $K^+ \rightarrow \mu^+ +\nu + e^- + e^+$. We calculate the predicted contributions of the various explanations to this channel. The predicted signals, if present, should be large enough to be resolved in the experiment.
First Antiprotons in an Ion Trap

Measurements of the antiproton mass[2,3,4,5] are represented in Fig. 1. All of these are deduced from measurements of the energy of x-rays radiated from highly excited exotic atoms. For example, if an antiproton is captured in a Pb atom, it can make radiative transitions from its n = 20 to n = 19 state. The antiproton is still well outside the nucleus in this case, so that nuclear effects can be neglected. The measured transition energy is essentially proportional to the reduced mass of the nucleus and hence the antiproton mass can be deduced by comparing the measured values with theoretical values, corrected for QED effects. Determination of the $X(3872)$ meson quantum numbers

The quantum numbers of the X(3872) meson are determined to be J(PC) = 1(++) based on angular correlations in B+ -> X(3872)K+ decays, where X(3872) -> pi(+) pi(-) j/psi and J/psi -> pi(+) mu(-). The data correspond to 1.0 fb(-1) of pp collisions collected by the LHCb detector. The only alternative assignment allowed by previous measurements J(PC) = 2(-+) is rejected with a confidence level equivalent to more than 8 Gaussian standard deviations using a likelihood-ratio test in the full angular phase space. This result favors exotic explanations of the X(3872) state.
Determination of the pole position of the lightest hybrid meson candidate

Mapping states with explicit gluonic degrees of freedom in the light sector is a challenge, and has led to controversies in the past. In particular, the experiments have reported two different hybrid candidates with spin-exotic signature, pi1(1400) and pi1(1600), which couple separately to eta pi and eta' pi. This picture is not compatible with recent Lattice QCD estimates for hybrid states, nor with most phenomenological models. We consider the recent partial wave analysis of the eta(') pi system by the COMPASS collaboration. Double Polarization Observables in Pentaquark Photoproduction

We investigate the properties of the hidden charm pentaquark-like resonances first observed by LHCb in 2015, by measuring the polarization transfer KLL between the incident photon and the outgoing proton in the exclusive photoproduction of J/psi near threshold. We present a first estimate of the sensitivity of this observable to the pentaquark photocouplings and hadronic branching ratios, and extend our predictions to the case of initial state helicity correlation ALL, using a polarized target. Efficient, high-resolution resonance laser ionization spectroscopy using weak transitions to long-lived excited states

Laser spectroscopic studies on minute samples of exotic radioactive nuclei require very efficient experimental techniques. In addition, high resolving powers are required to allow extraction of nu- clear structure information. Here we demonstrate that by using weak atomic transitions, resonance laser ionization spectroscopy is achieved with the required high efficiency (1-10%) and precision (linewidths of tens of MHz). We illustrate experimentally and through the use of simulations how the narrow experimental linewidths are achieved and how distorted resonance ionization spec- troscopy lineshapes can be avoided. Accelerator testing of the general antiparticle spectrometer; a novel approach to indirect dark matter detection

We report on recent accelerator testing of a prototype general antiparticle spectrometer (GAPS). GAPS is a novel approach for indirect dark matter searches that exploits the antideuterons produced in neutralino-neutralino annihilations. GAPS captures these antideuterons into a target with the subsequent formation of exotic atoms. These exotic atoms decay with the emission of X-rays of precisely defined energy and a correlated pion signature from nuclear annihilation. This signature uniquely characterizes the antideuterons.
