Delayed expansion of atrophic mandible (deam): a case report

2017

Purpose. The present case report presents the clinical results of delayed expansion of mandibles by ultrasonic surgery in case of mono edentulous. Materials and methods. The patients with a residual alveolar ridge thickness between 2,3 and 4,1 mm in the coronal area of posterior mandible was threated. In the first stage, four linear corticotomies were carried out by ultrasonic surgical device; bone expansion was not performed. After 4 weeks, in the second stage, adequate bone expansion, without compromising cortical vascularisation, by utilising a combination of scalpel, thin chisels and threaded osteotomes was achieved and one implant was placement, after filling the gaps with a cortico bo…

Longitudinal effects of rapid maxillary expansion on masticatory muscles activity

2017

Background To investigate the modifications induced by rapid maxillary expansion (RME) on the electromyographic (EMG) activities of the anterior temporal and superficial masseter muscles, in patients without pre-treatment EMG alterations. Material and methods Twenty-one patients with unilateral posterior cross-bite selected from the orthodontic department of the University of L'Aquila (Italy), were enrolled. There was no control group in this study since each subject acted as a control of her/himself. Two surface EMG recordings were taken: T0 (before RME) and at T1 (3 month after the end of expansion). To verify the neuromuscular equilibrium, the EMG activities of both right and left masset…

Spontaneous magnetostriction and thermal expansibility of TmFeO3 and LuFeO3 rare earth orthoferrites

2001

Abstract At low temperatures the TmFeO3 orthoferrite shows a strong spontaneous magnetostriction generated by rare earth Tm atoms. This effect essentially depends on the temperature and orientation of the weak ferromagnetism vector of the Fe sublattice and reaches largest values for the directions [1 0 0] and [0 0 1]. The spin reorientation process in TmFeO3 marks itself mainly in the change of the signs of the linear thermal expansion coefficients in the directions mentioned above. Some additional singularities of thermal dependencies of expansion coefficients are observed below 20 K, which may be due to a magnetic compensation effect in the investigated orthoferrite.

Compressive osteotomes for expansion and maxilla sinus floor lifting

2006

Gas jet studies towards an optimization of the IGISOL LIST method

2011

Abstract Gas jets emitted from an ion guide have been studied as a function of nozzle type and gas cell-to-background pressure ratio in order to obtain a low divergent, uniform jet over a distance of several cm. The jet has been probed by imaging the light emitted from excited argon or helium gas atoms. For a simple exit hole or converging-diverging nozzle, the jet diameter was found to be insensitive to the nozzle shape and inlet pressure. Sonic jets with a FWHM below 6 mm were achieved with a background pressure larger than 1 mbar in the expansion chamber. The measurements are supported by the detection of radioactive 219 Rn recoils from an alpha recoil source mounted within the gas cell.…

Small changes, big impacts: Geographic expansion in small-scale fisheries

2020

Abstract Small-scale fisheries are an important, yet neglected, millenarian activity that has been undergoing significant changes that threaten its future. Understanding how this activity is spatially distributed and the factors that drive its use of the marine space over time can shed some light on how fishing efforts and their impacts have moved over different parts of coastal marine ecosystems. This study investigated changes to the spatial distribution of small-scale fisheries along the Brazilian equatorial region between 1994 and 2014 and the factors, from ecological to socioeconomic, that influenced this shift. Bayesian hierarchical spatial models were used together with environmental…

X-ray powder diffraction phase analysis and thermomechanical properties of silica and alumina porcelains

2004

Chemical and mineralogical characterization, using the Rietveld method, of some silica and alumina rich porcelains and its relationship with thermomechanical properties have been studied in this work. X-ray powder diffraction analysis allows to differ clearly between silica and alumina porcelains. X-ray study shows that both porcelains have a content of vitreous phase. This vitreous phase is higher in the silica than in the alumina porcelain. Dilatometric studies combined with powder diffraction methods shows a strong relationship between silica content and a lower expansion coefficients and between alumina content and a higher crash resistance. Lower contents in vitreous phase in porcelain…

The Z boson spin observables as messengers of new physics

2017

We demonstrate that the 8 multipole parameters describing the spin state of the $Z$ boson are able to disentangle known $Z$ production mechanisms and signals from new physics at the LHC. They can be extracted from appropriate asymmetries in the angular distribution of lepton pairs from the $Z$ boson decay. The power of this analysis is illustrated by (i) the production of $Z$ boson plus jets; (ii) $Z$ boson plus missing transverse energy; (iii) $W$ and $Z$ bosons originating from the two-body decay of a heavy resonance.

The period function of reversible quadratic centers

2006

Abstract In this paper we investigate the bifurcation diagram of the period function associated to a family of reversible quadratic centers, namely the dehomogenized Loud's systems. The local bifurcation diagram of the period function at the center is fully understood using the results of Chicone and Jacobs [C. Chicone, M. Jacobs, Bifurcation of critical periods for plane vector fields, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 312 (1989) 433–486]. Most of the present paper deals with the local bifurcation diagram at the polycycle that bounds the period annulus of the center. The techniques that we use here are different from the ones in [C. Chicone, M. Jacobs, Bifurcation of critical periods for plane vecto…

Scaling property of variational perturbation expansion for a general anharmonic oscillator with xp-potential

1995

We prove a powerful scaling property for the extremality condition in the recently developed variational perturbation theory which converts divergent perturbation expansions into exponentially fast convergent ones. The proof is given for the energy eigenvalues of an anharmonic oscillator with an arbitrary $x^p$-potential. The scaling property greatly increases the accuracy of the results.
