Terror circuit in Cordoba: thoughts on the representation of oppressors in sites of memory

2020

2013

Some photographic exhibitions are nowadays set outdoors in order to popularize art. Through a case study, this article examines the "weak use of images" as it is practised in public places, by passers-by who do not identify art pieces as such, and do not consider themselves as visitors. Their relation to art pieces, in this context, is built on an apparent paradox (they relate and at the same time do not relate to the pieces), and constitutes the minor mode of situations and observed interactions (this relation does not organise or structure the latter).

Antonin Proust, member of parliament, minister of fine arts, protector and defender of arts

2017

Antonin Proust (1832-1905), political figure, friend of the artists, historian, critic and salonnier, played an important political and cultural part. The life of this liberal republican is a plea for the protection of arts in the service of the Republic. He connects economic structure with artistic institutions and constantly advocates the useful arts. His aim is economic: to train artists in the service of the industry. He creates art schools and encourages the introduction of design at school. As budget rapporteur, he supports the protection and the development of arts. The unification of the arts which he advocates results in the creation of the ministry of the Arts. Advocate of the her…

Nuclear and Cytoplasmic Survivin: Molecular Mechanism, Prognostic, and Therapeutic Potential.

2007

Abstract Survivin's proposed dual role as an apoptosis inhibitor and a mitotic effector positioned it in the front line of cancer research. Notably, survivin is detected as a cytoplasmic and nuclear protein in cancer patients, which stimulated numerous studies to investigate and to speculate on the functional and prognostic significance of its dynamic localization. Recent evidence shows that the direct interaction of survivin with the nuclear export receptor Crm1 is critically involved in its intracellular localization and cancer-relevant functions. Here, we review our current understanding of the Crm1/survivin interface and discuss its potential prognostic and therapeutic relevance. [Cance…

Dynamic intracellular survivin in oral squamous cell carcinoma: underlying molecular mechanism and potential as an early prognostic marker

2007

Survivin functions as an apoptosis inhibitor and a regulator of cell division in many tumours. The intracellular localization of survivin in tumours has been suggested as a prognostic marker. However, current reports are inconsistent and the underlying molecular mechanisms are not understood. The present study has examined the localization and prognostic value of nuclear and cytoplasmic survivin in the pre-therapeutic biopsies from 71 oral and oropharyngeal squamous carcinoma (OSCC) patients. Statistical analysis indicated that preferential nuclear versus cytoplasmic survivin correlated with favourable versus unfavourable disease outcome. Uni- and multi-variate analysis showed that in contr…

Molecular basis of the functional distinction between Cln1 and Cln2 cyclins

2012

Cln1 and Cln2 are very similar but not identical cyclins. In this work, we tried to describe the molecular basis of the functional distinction between Cln1 and Cln2. We constructed chimeric cyclins containing different fragments of Cln1 and Cln2 and performed several functional analysis that make it possible to distinguish between Cln1 or Cln2. We identified that region between amino acids 225 and 299 of Cln2 is not only necessary but also sufficient to confer Cln2 specific functionality compared with Cln1. We also studied Cln1 and Cln2 subcellular localization identifying additional differences between them. Both cyclins are distributed between the nucleus and the cytoplasm, but Cln1 shows…

Biomarker responses of the earthworm Aporrectodea tuberculata to copper and zinc exposure: differences between populations with and without earlier m…

2003

Biomarkers in the earthworm Aporrectodea tuberculata (Eisen) were measured to find out their possible induction under Cu and Zn exposure and differences in the responses between two populations with different exposure history. The biomarkers applied were concentration of metallothioneins (MT), and cytochrome P4501A (CYP1A) monooxygenase and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) activities. These were measured from earthworms sampled at three distances from a steel smelter in Finland and from the individuals from two populations, one with and another without earlier metal exposure, exposed to three combined Cu/Zn concentrations in the laboratory. In the field, MT concentration, and cytochrome CYP1…

KOSMOS 2018 Gran Canaria mesocosm study: water column biogeochemistry

2021

The data set compiles biogeochemical water column collected during a KOSMOS mesocosm experiment carried out in the frame work of the Ocean Artificial Upwelling project. The experiment was performed in the North-East Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Gran Canaria in autumn 2018 and lasted for 39 days. In this study we investigated the effect of different intensities of artificial upwelling combined with two upwelling modes (recurring additions versus one singular addition) on POC export and its potential transfer efficiency to depth. The data set includes the amounts of surface water that were exchanged with nutrient-rich deep water (from ~300 m depth), primary production and chlorophyll a, el…
