Connecting temporal identity to mitosis: the regulation of Hunchback in Drosophila neuroblast lineages.
2006
Both in vertebrates and invertebrates, neural stem cells generate different cell types at different times during development. It has been suggested that this process depends on temporal identity transitions of neural progenitors, but the underlying mechanism has not been resolved, yet. Recently, Drosophila neuroblasts (NBs) have been shown to be an excellent model system to investigate this subject. Here, changes in temporal identity are regulated by sequential and transient expression of transcription factors in the NB, such as Hunchback (Hb) and Kruppel (Kr). The temporal expression profile is maintained in the progeny. Hb is expressed first and thus defines the earliest identity in a giv…
Dynamics of the Comparative Advantages in Romanian Exports Compared to the European Union
2013
Abstract The main objective of this paper is to prove if the dynamics of the comparative advantages in Romania in the period of time 2000- 2011 has any convergence potential and if the specialization of production capacities has suffered modifications. For the study of the comparative advantage dynamics in Romanian exports compared to the European Union in the period of time 2000-2011, we analysed the modifications in the structure of the sections included in the Combined Nomenclature for national exports and we calculeted the Balassa and the Dalum indexes. In order to emphasize the convergence and the stability in time of the export structure we used the econometric tools specific to the r…

Physical and Genetic Interactions Link the Yeast Protein Zds1p with mRNA Nuclear Export
2005
Eukaryotic gene expression requires the export of mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. The DEAD box protein Dbp5p is an essential export factor conserved from yeast to man. A fraction of Dbp5p forms a complex with nucleoporins of the cytoplasmic filaments of the nuclear pore complex. Gfd1p was identified originally as a multicopy suppressor of the rat8-2 ts allele of DBP5. Here we reported that Dbp5p and Gfd1p interact with Zds1p, a protein previously identified as a multicopy suppressor in several yeast genetic screens. By using the two-hybrid system, we showed that Zds1p interacts in vivo with both Gfd1p and Dbp5p. In vitro binding experiments revealed that Gfd1p and Dbp5p bind directl…

The chapter analyzes the public support to the internationalization process of Italian firms. It examines the role of public administrations and national promotional banks and their financial and technical support to small and medium-sized enterprises.
Iterated Conditionals, Trivalent Logics, and Conditional Random Quantities
2022
We consider some notions of iterated conditionals by checking the validity of some desirable basic logical and probabilistic properties, which are valid for simple conditionals. We consider de Finetti’s notion of conditional as a three-valued object and as a conditional random quantity in the betting framework. We recall the notions of conjunction and disjunction among conditionals in selected trivalent logics. Then, we analyze the two notions of iterated conditional introduced by Calabrese and de Finetti, respectively. We show that the compound probability theorem and other basic properties are not preserved by these objects, by also computing some probability propagation rules. Then, for …
On compound and iterated conditionals
2021
We illustrate the notions of compound and iterated conditionals introduced, in recent papers, as suitable conditional random quantities, in the framework of coherence. We motivate our definitions by examining some concrete examples. Our logical operations among conditional events satisfy the basic probabilistic properties valid for unconditional events. We show that some, intuitively acceptable, compound sentences on conditionals can be analyzed in a rigorous way in terms of suitable iterated conditionals. We discuss the Import-Export principle, which is not valid in our approach, by also examining the inference from a material conditional to the associated conditional event. Then, we illus…
The Contribution of Technological Change on EU's Exports
2013
Abstract The competitiveness of European countries is a constant concern in an environment dominated by the globalization of markets. Export competitiveness is an important dimension of a country's competitiveness. On top of that, in support to competitiveness, innovation is considered as a strong variable according to the Schumpeterian framework. This paper explores the relationship between technological change and international trade according to the OECD technological classification and the United Nations International System of Industrial Classification third revision for the 2 and 3 digit divisions of the manufacturing sector industry. An exploratory analysis is carried out on four Eur…
Karyopherin Msn5 is involved in a novel mechanism controlling the cellular level of cell cycle regulators Cln2 and Swi5
2019
ABSTRACT The yeast β-karyopherin Msn5 controls the SBF cell-cycle transcription factor, responsible for the periodic expression of CLN2 cyclin gene at G1/S, and the nuclear export of Cln2 protein. Here we show that Msn5 regulates Cln2 by an additional mechanism. Inactivation of Msn5 causes a severe reduction in the cellular content of Cln2. This occurs by a post-transcriptional mechanism, since CLN2 mRNA level is not importantly affected in asynchronous cultures. Cln2 stability is not significantly altered in msn5 cells and inactivation of Msn5 causes a reduction in protein level even when Cln2 is stabilized. Therefore, the reduced amount of Cln2 in msn5 cells is mainly due not to a higher …
