Acute effects of dynamic stretching on mechanical properties result from both muscle-tendon stretching and muscle warm-up

We investigated the acute effects of dynamic stretching on mechanical properties of plantar flexor muscles and tested the hypothesis that it would result from an interaction between muscle-tendon stretching and muscle warm-up. To test the stretching effect, dynamic stretching (DS) was compared to static stretching (SS). To test the warm-up effect, DS was compared to submaximal isometric muscle activity (SIMA) with similar contraction intensity. A control condition served as reference. Towards an extensible simulator of real motion platforms

Abstract The limitations of a real motion platform will not normally be discovered until it is completely built and tested. Late identification of its limitations imposes the necessity of a redesign of the motion platform. This, in turn, incurs important and significant economic costs for the manufacturer. Influence of the molecular structure on the melt strength and extensibility of polyethylenes

Melt strength (MS) and breaking stretching ratio (BSR) data relative to polyethylenes with different molecular structure (high density (HDPE), low density (LDPE), and linear low density (LLDPE)) are shown. HDPE and LLDPE samples show high breaking stretching ratio and low melt strength values. The LDPE samples exhibit very large melt strength values but low breaking stretching ratio values. For the last mentioned samples, differences are shown in the non-isothermal elongational behavior between samples polymerized with tubular and vessel technology. For all the samples, MS decreases with increasing melt index while BSR increases with melt index.

Relationship between muscular extensibility, strength and stability and the transmission of impacts during fatigued running

The aim was to analyse the relationship between isokinetic strength, dynamic stability, muscular extensibility and impacts transmission during fatigued running. Low- and high-frequency impacts related to body movements and the severity of impacts, respectively were assessed in 17 male recreational runners, before and after a treadmill running fatigue protocol, using a triaxial accelerometry system. High-frequency impacts in the tibia were negatively correlated to the knee angle at which the quadriceps peak torque was reached (p = 0.014), and also to the extensibility of the hamstrings and soleus (p = 0.001 and p = 0.023, respectively). The ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and its complete variant (CEEMDAN) are adaptive, noise-assisted data analysis methods that improve on the ordinary empirical mode decomposition (EMD). All these methods decompose possibly nonlinear and/or nonstationary time series data into a finite amount of components separated by instantaneous frequencies. Extensible Visualizations of Ontologies in OWLGrEd

OWLGrEd is a visual editor for OWL 2.0 ontologies that combines UML class diagram notation and textual OWL Manchester syntax for expressions. We review the basic OWLGrEd options for ontology presentation customization and consider the framework of OWLGrEd extensions that enables introducing rich use-case specific functionality to the editor. A number of available OWLGrEd extensions offering rich ontology management features to their end-users are described, as well.

SEAL: A Domain-Specific Language for Novice Wireless Sensor Network Programmers

A lot of the prospective wireless sensor network users are novice programmers. Their experience in general-purpose programming languages is either limited or completely nonexistent. There are both financial and scientific incentives to empower these users and allow them to write sensor network applications on their own, rather than having to rely on a qualified computer science professional.
