An improved system for fast, continuous chemical separations (“SISAK 2”) in nuclear spectroscopic studies

1980

Abstract An improved rapid, continuous solvent extraction system (“SISAK 2”) is described. The system is connected to a gas-jet installed at the Mainz reactor. It allows single or multistage chemical separations of liquid phases by means of specially designed centrifuges within ∼1 s per stage. The application of this system to study short-lived nuclides is exemplified for neutron-rich lanthanum and cerium isotopes produced by fission.

Integrated Modeling of the Beam Formation and Extraction in the Linac4 Hydrogen Negative Ion Source

2018

In order to make the predictive simulation tools for the extracted beam current and emittance in the Linac4 H− ion source, we have launched the development of the integrated model for the H− ion beam formation and extraction process. More specifically, our 3D KEIO-Beam Formation and eXtraction (3D KEIO-BFX) is coupled with the NINJA, IBSIMU and TRAVEL. The extracted H− ion beam current and co-extracted electron current obtained by the integrated model have shown reasonable agreement with the experiments. peerReviewed

A fast recursive algorithm for the computation of axial moments

2002

This paper describes a fast algorithm to compute local axial moments used for the detection of objects of interest in images. The basic idea is grounded on the elimination of redundant operations while computing axial moments for two neighboring angles of orientation. The main result is that the complexity of recursive computation of axial moments becomes independent of the total number of computed moments in a given point, i.e. it is of the order O(N) where N is the data size. This result is of great importance in computer vision since many feature extraction methods are based on the computation of axial moments. The experimental results confirm the time complexity and accuracy predicted b…

Effect of Different Green Extraction Methods and Solvents on Bioactive Components of Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla L.) Flowers

2020

Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla L.) dried flowers contain a group of interesting biologically active compounds such as sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, coumarins, vitamins, phenolic acids and glucosides. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to characterize the composition in bioactive compounds (specialized metabolites) present in water and ethanol extracts of chamomile flowers, together with monitoring the impact of different extraction techniques (conventional vs. ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE)) on the parameters under investigation. UAE treatment significantly decreased the extraction time of bioactive compounds from herbal material. Polyphenolic compounds content and antioxidan…

Evaluation of a Multidimensional Solid-Phase Extraction Platform for Highly Selective On-Line Cleanup and High-Throughput LC−MS Analysis of Triazines…

2001

A novel highly selective sample cleanup procedure based on the use of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) as solid-phase extraction materials has been evaluated with respect to its applicability and routine use in environmental analysis. The method comprises the combination of a restricted access material (RAM) and a MIP allowing a selective sample preparation to be achieved in the online mode. This combination is called the size-selective sample separation and solvent switch (six-SPE). The RAM column combines size exclusion and adsorption chromatography, reducing the concentration of matrix molecules by a cutoff of 15 kDa. The MIP column selectively retains the triazine analytes whereas …

Solid phase techniques in the extraction of pesticides and related compounds from foods and soils

1994

The application of SPE technology to the isolation of pesticides and related compounds from food and soils has grown enormously in the last decade. Much of this growth has been due to the relative ease of sample handling and the wide range of solid supports currently available for a variety of applications. The aim of this review is to present the methods for solid phase extraction (SPE) of pesticide residues from soils and foods. There are three main areas according to the type of approach used to handle the sample: solid phase extraction, solid phase clean-up (SPC), and matrix solid phase dispersion (MSPD). This review covers milk products, fatty foods, fruits, vegetables, and soils. Soli…

Sensitive sequential-injection system for the determination of 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulphonic acid in human urine samples using on-line solid-phas…

2003

Abstract 2-Phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulphonic acid (PBS) is an UV-filter contained in many cosmetics as a sunscreen. A direct, selective and sensitive method to determine traces of PBS is presented. The on-line separation of this compound from urine matrix was directly coupled with fluorimetric detection in a sequential-injection system. The separation was performed using a SAX microcolumn in which the analyte was retained and eluted selectively. The determination is carried out without any derivatization reaction, by directly measuring the intrinsic fluorescence of the analyte. The wavelengths of excitation and emission were 301 and 681 nm, respectively. On-line standard addition calibration …

Application of matrix solid phase dispersion to the determination of imidacloprid, carbaryl, aldicarb, and their main metabolites in honeybees by liq…

2005

Abstract A method based on matrix solid phase dispersion (MSPD) using C18 as dispersant and dichloromethane–methanol as eluent and liquid chromatography–atmospheric pressure chemical ionization–mass spectrometry (LC–APCI–MS) has been developed for the simultaneous determination of imidacloprid, 6-chloronicotinic acid, carbaryl, aldicarb, aldicarb sulfoxide, and aldicarb sulfone in honeybees. The proposed method was compared with liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) combined with LC–APCI–MS analysis. Spiked blank samples were used as standards to counteract the matrix effect observed in the chromatographic determination. Recovery studies were performed at different fortification levels. Average re…

Selective trace enrichment of chlorotriazine pesticides from natural waters and sediment samples using terbuthylazine molecularly imprinted polymers

2000

Two molecularly imprinted polymers were synthesized using either dichloromethane or toluene as the porogen and terbuthylazine as the template and were used as solid-phase extraction cartridges for the enrichment of six chlorotriazines (deisopropylatrazine, deethylatrazine, simazine, atrazine, propazine, and terbuthylazine) in natural water and sediment samples. The extracted samples were analyzed by liquid chromatography/diode array detection (LC/DAD). Several washing solvents, as well as different volumes, were tested for their ability to remove the matrix components nonspecifically adsorbed on the sorbents. This cleanup step was shown to be of prime importance to the successful extraction…
