Magma extrusion during the Ubinas 2013-2014 eruptive crisis based on satellite thermal imaging (MIROVA) and ground-based monitoring

After 3 years of mild gases emissions, the Ubinas volcano entered in a new eruptive phase on September 2nd, 2013. The MIROVA system (a space-based volcanic hot-spot detection system), allowed us to detect in near real time the thermal emissions associated with the eruption and provided early evidence of magma extrusion within the deep summit crater. By combining IR data with plume height, sulfur emissions, hot spring temperatures and seismic activity, we interpret the thermal output detected over Ubinas in terms of extrusion rates associated to the eruption. Influence of process parameters on the product integrity in friction stir extrusion of magnesium alloys

Friction Stir Extrusion is an innovative direct-recycling technology for metal machining chips. During the process a specifically designed rotating tool is plunged into a cylindrical matrix containing the scraps to be recycled. The stirring action of the tool prompts solid bonding related phenomena allowing the back extrusion of a full dense rod. This process results to be particularly relevant because allows the reuse of the scrap without any previous treatment. Experiments have been carried out in order to investigate the influence of the process parameters on the extrudes quality and a numerical model has been developed in order to simulate the evolution of the material flow.

Use of Biochar as Filler for Biocomposite Blown Films: Structure-Processing-Properties Relationships

In this work, biocomposite blown films based on poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) as biopolymeric matrix and biochar (BC) as filler were successfully fabricated. The materials were subjected to a film-blowing process after being compounded in a twin-screw extruder. The preliminary investigations conducted on melt-mixed PBAT/BC composites allowed PBAT/BC 5% and PBAT/BC 10% to be identified as the most appropriate formulations to be processed via film blowing. The blown films exhibited mechanical performances adequate for possible application as film for packaging, agricultural, and compost bags. International audience; Thirty lactating dairy cows were used in a 333 Latin-square design to investigate the effects of a raw or extruded blend of linseed and wheat bran (70:30) on plasma and milk fatty-acids (FA). Linseed diets, containing 16.6% linseed blend on a dry-matter basis, decreased milk yield and protein percentage. They decreased the proportions of FA with less than 18 carbons in plasma and milk and resulted in cis -9, cis -12, cis -15 18:3 proportions that were more than three and four times higher in plasma and milk, respectively, whereas cis -9, cis -12 18:2 proportions were decreased by 10–15%. Electrochemical Studies of Nonstoichiometric TiO<sub>2-x</sub> Ceramic

TiO2 ceramic was prepared using extrusion technology and thermal treatment in two stages: sintering in air and subsequent annealing under high vacuum conditions. Sample thermal treatment in high vacuum conditions causes formation of nonstoichiometric titanium oxide ceramic. As a result electrical conductivity of the material significantly increases. Such a material can be used for electrode production for electrochemical water treatment.

Bionanocomposite Blown Films: Insights on the Rheological and Mechanical Behavior.

In this work, bionanocomposites based on two different types of biopolymers belonging to the MaterBi® family and containing two kinds of modified nanoclays were compounded in a twin-screw extruder and then subjected to a film blowing process, aiming at obtaining sustainable films potentially suitable for packaging applications. The preliminary characterization of the extruded bionanocomposites allowed establishing some correlations between the obtained morphology and the material rheological and mechanical behavior.
