Low-density polyethylene/polyamide/clay blend nanocomposites: Effect of morphology of clay on their photooxidation resistance

The photooxidation behaviour of low-density polyethylene (LDPE)/polyamide (PA) blends, containing polyamide 11 (PA11) or polyamide 6 (PA6), has been investigated in the absence and presence of a small amount of commercial organomodified clay (OMMT). The polymer blends LDPE/PA11 and LDPE/PA6 at 75/25 wt./wt.%, with and without OMMT, have been prepared by a two-step procedure: extrusion and sheet formulation. EVA-montmorillonite nanocomposites: effect of processing condition

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of the compounding apparatus and of processing conditions on the properties of an organoclay-poly[ethylene-co-(vinyl acetate)] (EVA) nanocomposite. The filled materials were prepared using either a discontinuous batch mixer, a single screw extruder, a counter rotating intermeshing twin-screw compounder or a corotating intermeshing twin-screw extruder. Management of a crown-root fracture : a novel technique with interdisciplinary approach

Anterior teeth with subgingival fractures require a complex treatment plan that addresses biologic, functional and aesthetic factors. This case report describes the management of a crown-root fractured maxillary left central incisor. An interdisciplinary approach was used to restore the tooth due to the complex nature of the treatment. Orthodontic extrusion was performed to move the fracture line above the alveolar bone and periodontal surgery to recontour the altered gingival margin. Finally, the incisor was restored performing a root canal retreatment with a fiber post and a full ceramic crown. The treatment resulted in secured periodontal health and good aesthetics. Recycling of compatibilized and uncompatibilized nylon/polypropylene blends

The recycling of compatibilized and uncompatibilized nylon6/polypropylene blends has been carried out by repetitive extrusions. The change of the properties of the blends is a function not only of the number of reprocessing steps but also of the type of compatibilizer. The worsening of the mechanical properties is small and, indeed, some improvement can be observed after one or two extrusion steps for some blends. It is hypothesised that the decrease of the molecular weight, the typical effect occurring during this thermomechanical treatment, is counterbalanced and overcome by the possible formation of new copolymers that act as bridges between the two phases. Processing-property relationships of polypropylene/ciprofloxacin fibers

In this work we prepared polypropylene (PP) fibers incorporating an antibiotic, i.e. ciprofloxacin (CFX), by melt spinning. In particular, PP has been compounded with CFX at different concentrations by using a counter-rotating twin screw compounder. The PP/CFX fibers have been spun by using a capillary rheometer operating under a constant extrusion speed. The effect of “online” hot drawing during the melt spinning or of an “offline” cold drawing on the properties of PP/CFX fibers were evaluated.
