Pilot Study on Visual Function and Fundus Autofluorescence Assessment in Diabetic Patients.

Purpose. Evaluate optimized fundus autofluorescence (FAF) imaging in early stages of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and relate findings with conventional colour fundus imaging and visual function in diabetic patients and control subjects.Materials and Methods. FAF and colour images were obtained using the CR-2 Plus digital nonmydriatic retinal camera in seven diabetic patients and thirteen control subjects. Visual-Functioning Questionnaire-25 (VFQ-25) and Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ) were used to assess the quality of life and diabetes self-care. NIR tracking assists sports medicine in junior basketball training

We recorded eye movements of eight elite junior basketball players. We hypothesized that a more stable gaze is correlated to a better shot rate. Upon preliminary testing we invited male juniors whose eyes could be reliably tracked in a game situation. To these ends, we used a head-mounted video-based eye tracker. The participants had no record of ocular or other health issues. Ocular counterrolling. Some practical considerations of a new evaluation method for diagnostic purposes.

Ocular counterrolling (OCR) data taken from the literature (12 publications) were used to test the best fit (least-square fit) of these measurements with respect to three mathematical models: a sine relation between OCR and the lateral tilt stimulus, a complex cosine-square relation, and a logarithmic relation between OCR gain and tilt. The latter proved to be the best fitting function. On the basis of this model, we attempted to define a physiological transfer function between OCR gain and tilt, which could serve as a reference of normal population, assuming healthy subjects for the investigations applied. PURPOSE To evaluate the agreement between different parameters obtained with 2 swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT)-based biometers and 1 Scheimpflug camera with partial coherence interferometry (PCI). Comparison of biometric measurements using partial coherence interferometry and applanation ultrasound

Abstract Purpose To compare and contrast axial length (AL) measurements assessed by ultrasound biometry and optical biometry. Viscoelastic material retained behind the IOL may cause a capsular bag distension in the early postoperative period. These eyes accumulate a transparent substance in the closed chamber inside the capsular bag from the IOL blocking the capsular opening. The capsular bag distension was first discribed by Davison in 1990. Miyake et al. proposed a new classification of capsular block syndrome and supposed viscoelastic material to cause early-postoperative capsular block syndrome (Miyake et al., 1999). Capsular bag distension after optic capture of a sulcus-fixated IOL was described by Basti et al. (1999).

An active local renin-angiotensin system (RAS) has recently been found in the human eye. The aim of the present study was to compare the activities of central RAS enzymes (ACE1 and 2) in porcine ocular tissues, morphologically and physiologically close to the human eye. In addition, the effects of three ACE-inhibitory tripeptides on these enzymes were evaluated.Enucleated fresh porcine eyes were used.
