European Socio-cultural Change and Generational Diversity in the Post-Soviet Workforce.

2016

In times of increased retirement age and senior employees staying in workforce longer, successfully managing generational differences in the workforce forms an increasingly important challenge for modern day management. In many ways, generations may vary in attitudes and approaches, reflecting deeper differences in their core values. This might be particularly true for the Post-Soviet countries, where earlier generations were educated and started their careers within a completely different socio-economic system. In this study we explore differences in approaches towards values and attitudes amongst four generations of retail sector employees – starting from those, who were still to great ex…

WHERE DOES CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY STAND IN RELATION TO SUSTAINABILITY?

2018

The business competitive landscape of today is shaped by new challenges. In order to outperform their peers, companies seek to seize opportunities and manage the risks associated with the challenges that arise. To this adds the pressure of societies on organizations to be more transparent, ethical and responsible. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability come in response to this increasing demand of societies by being a pivotal tool in the business area. Organizations of the 21st century can no longer ignore CSR and sustainability and should follow the steps of integrating them across all departments as part of their strategic policy. Sustainable organizations are required t…

Structure, Effects and Deficiencies of an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem: the Spanish Case

2017

In this paper, we rely on the Spanish GEM Project to analyze the basic conditions that shape the profiles of the Spanish regional entrepreneurial ecosystem and to configure which aspects are given and which should be met in order for that ecosystem to be considered as a tool to support entrepreneurship and not just a wasteland. Although some media are incorporated, the nutrients needed for germination are not included.

Large‐scale set partitioning problems: Some real‐world instances hide a beneficial structure

2006

In this paper we consider large‐scale set partitioning problems. Our main purpose is to show that real‐world set partitioning problems originating from the container‐trucking industry are easier to tackle in respect to general ones. We show such different behavior through computational experiments: in particular, we have applied both a heuristic algorithm and some exact solution approaches to real‐world instances as well as to benchmark instances from Beasley OR‐library. Moreover, in order to gain an insight into the structure of the real‐world instances, we have performed and evaluated various instance perturbations.

Clashing Perspectives on Sustainable Development

2019

Abstract We live in a world characterised by speed owing mainly to technology. Everything happens at a faster pace, from the way production and consumption takes place to the way the environment is degrading. Henceforth, sustainable development appeared in response to these consequences. However, considering that we are discussing the topic of sustainable development for over three decades now, it is probably time to bring it forward in another way and try to better understand it through opposing perspectives. Therefore, the present paper explores differing views on the discussed topic, and analyses sustainable development in relation to other similar terms, trying to provide a clear meanin…

Arguments in Favor of Moving to a Sustainable Business Model in the Apiary Industry

2017

Abstract Today’s society faces major challenges in meeting future global food demands and solving biodiversity loss, and it quickly needs to find ways in addressing these issues. The places to look for solutions come from the economic sectors that employ the most powerful pressure on these issues such as agriculture. Apiculture, as a branch of agriculture is being more and more recognized as sustaining human life and contributing to sustainability. However, the sector records a progressive decline of honey bees. Therefore, a rapid restructuring needs to take place in agricultural markets, in general, as well as in apiary agribusinesses. Although important, technological progress is insuffic…

Abstract The aim of this paper is to evaluate fiscal policy performance level in Nordic countries of Europe by quantifying the gap between their performance and an optimum benchmark value. In this study it was selected Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway. These countries occupy the first places in the ranking of countries with the highest rate of tax burden in Europe. The first part of paper contains general aspects of fiscal performance in international research and an overview of the Nordic tax systems model. The second part of paper focuses on evaluation of tax policy performance in these countries by using OptimTax scoring analysis. The research is based on a multivariate analysis instr…
