Ultra-High Energy Neutrinos at the Pierre Auger Observatory

The observation of ultrahigh energy neutrinos (UHE nu s) has become a priority in experimental astroparticle physics. UHE nu s can be detected with a variety of techniques. In particular, neutrinos can interact in the atmosphere (downward-going nu) or in the Earth crust (Earth-skimming nu), producing air showers that can be observed with arrays of detectors at the ground. With the surface detector array of the Pierre Auger Observatory we can detect these types of cascades. The distinguishing signature for neutrino events is the presence of very inclined showers produced close to the ground (i.e., after having traversed a large amount of atmosphere). Hydro-mechanical modelling of a natural slope affected by a multiple slip surface failure mechanism

A coupled hydro-mechanical formulation is presented for the analysis of landslide motion during crisis episodes. The mathematical formulation is used to model a natural slope affected by a multiple slip surface failure mechanism, in which pore water pressure evolution was identified as the main cause for movement accelerations. An elasto-plastic constitutive model is adopted for the behaviour of slip surfaces. Material parameters are obtained by combining the available laboratory tests and the back analysis of some crisis episodes. Urban Flood Prediction through GIS-Based Dual-Coupled Hydraulic Models

Propagation of pluvial floods in urban areas, occurring with return time periods of few years, can be well solved using dual models accounting for the mutual relationship between the water level in the streets and the discharges inside the sewer pipes. The extended WEC-flood model (EWEC), based on the use of unstructured triangular meshes and a diffusive formulation of the momentum equations in both the 2D and the 1D lower domains, is presented along with its novelty, limits, and advantages. Maģistra darba tēma “Lietotāju uztveres uzlabojumi saskarnēs atkarībā no to elementu izkārtojuma”. 2022. gadā, pēc statistikas datiem, saskarnes var palielināt tīmekļvietnes reklāmieguvuma līmeni par 200%, bet saskarnes dizains līdz pat 400% [71], tādējādi lietotāju saskarnes uztvere ir svarīga pētījuma tēma. Maģistra darba mērķis ir izpētīt un izanalizēt, kurās saskarnēs elementu izkārtojums uzlabo lietotāju uztveri. Pētījuma rezultātā tika noskaidrots, ka lietotājam visvieglāk informāciju ir uztvert saskarnē Nr.1, savukārt visgrūtāk lietotājam informāciju uztvert ir saskarnē Nr.6, atkarībā no elementu izvietojuma, dizaina un skaita. Pro gradu-tutkielmani käsittelee ajankohtaista sosiaalista mediaa politiikan toimittajien uutena työkaluna. Sähköisen median vaatiman nopeuden ja sosiaalisen median mukaan tulon myötä toimittajien työskentelytavat ovat muuttuneet. Tutkielmallani pyrin selvittämään, miten toimitukset luovat politiikan uutisia sosiaalisesta mediasta, millaisia uutisia sosiaalisesta mediasta nostetaan ja miten politiikan toimitukset kokevat politiikan journalismin muuttuneen. Lisäksi tarkastelen diskurssianalyysin avulla sitä, millaisia nämä sosiaalisesta mediasta nostetut uutiset ovat.
