Influence of culture on consumer behavior in the fashion industry

2014

Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon – Universitetet i Agder 2014 Wearing clothes is one of the main factors that differentiate us from animals. Human beings began wearing clothes more than 170,000 years ago after the second-to-the-last-ice age. The historical invention of weaving machine changed the way fabrics were made and thus our garments; from being tailor made to being mass-produced. We may now dress differently depending on the time, the occasions, the environment, as well as based on culture. People all over the world can make different choices based on different preferences. Consumers buy the items with which they feel familiar and comfortable. An individual’s preferences and…

Bacterial Community Structure of an IFAS-MBRs Wastewater Treatment Plant

2017

TIn this work, the bacterial community putatively involved in BNR events of a UCT-MBMBR pilot plant was elucidated by both culture-dependent and metagenomics DNA analyses. The presence of bacterial isolates belonging to Bacillus (in the anoxic compartment) and to Acinetobacter, Stenotrophomonas, Rhodococcus, Escherichia and Aeromonas (in the aerobic compartment) is in agreement with the nitrification/denitrification processes observed in the plant. Moreover, the study of bacterial community structure by NGS revealed a microbial diversity suggesting a biochemical complexity which can be further explored and exploited to improve UCT-MBMBR plant performance.

Electron Transfer from Organic Aminophenyl Acid Sensitizers to Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticle Films

2009

Electron transfer from three conjugated amino-phenyl acid dyes to titanium and aluminum oxide nanocrystalline films was studied by using transient absorption spectroscopy with sub 20 fs time-resolution over the visible spectral region. All the dyes attached to TiO2 showed long-lived ground state bleach signals indicative of formation of new species. Global analysis of the transient kinetics of the dyes on TiO2 revealed stimulated emission decays of about 40 fs and less than 300 fs assigned to electron injection. The same dyes on Al2O3 substrates displayed long stimulated emission decays (ns) suggesting that electron transfer is blocked in this high band gap semiconductor. For two of the dye…

SSU rDNA Characterization of Lymnaeid Snails Transmitting Human Fascioliasis in South and Central America

1997

The small subunit (18S) rRNA gene sequences of the lymnaeid morphs I and II (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Basommatophora: Lymnaeidae) transmitting human fascioliasis in the high endemic zone of the northern Bolivian Altiplano and of Lymnaea cubensis from Mexico and Guadeloupe island (Caribbean) have been obtained by direct polymerase chain reaction PCR cycle sequencing and silver staining methods and compared to that of the 6 most common European Lymnaeidae species. Results allow us to establish definitively the distinction between the lymnaeids from the northern Bolivian Altiplano and L. cubensis. Lymnaea cubensis is a valid species distributed in North and Central America but absent in the north…

Composite polymer electrolytes with improved lithium metal electrode interfacial properties: II. Application in rechargeable batteries

1998

The application of a liquid-free, ceramic-added composite polymer electrolyte in a Li/LiMn{sub 2}O{sub 4} rechargeable battery is presented and discussed. As expected by the high stability of the electrolyte toward the lithium metal anode, the battery has promising characteristics in terms of reliability and cyclability.

Analysis of a Fast Reserve Unit Behaviour with Additional Modular Synthetic Inertia Control

2021

The paper presents the results of a theoretical study on the behaviour of a battery storage system operated as a Fast Reserve Unit and equipped with additional synthetic inertia control. The Fast Reserve Unit is assumed connected to the transmission system of Sicily, operated as an isolated grid in order to show more clearly the effect of the Fast Reserve Unit intervention during a power imbalance. The unit is controlled also to provide synthetic inertia with a conventional control scheme and with a new scheme proposed by the authors and named “Modular Synthetic Inertia”. The latter has been conceived for offering a modular response as a function of the Rate of Change of Frequency, to avoid…

Mode modernitātē: estētiskie un temporālie aspekti

2015

RISQUE ASSOCIE A L'UTILISATION DE LA LOI DE BENFORD POUR DETECTER DES VENTES FRAUDULEUSES DE BIENS INNOVANTS A LA MODE

2010

Benford's law has been promoted as providing the auditors with a turnkey solution for fraud detection. The purpose of this paper is to show it is not always possible to detect fraudulent sales with that law. We use sales in volume of game consoles in Japan (since 1989), in United-States, in France, in Germany and in United-Kingdom (since 2000). After reviewing briefly the literature and our study design, the chi-square test and the bias analysis were used to measure the goodness-of-fit to Benford's law. Despite the absence of actual fraud, these sale series of fashion goods are not significantly in conformity with Benford's law. Thus, for the detection of fraudulent sales in this sector, th…

FASTA/Q data compressors for MapReduce-Hadoop genomics: space and time savings made easy

2021

Abstract Background Storage of genomic data is a major cost for the Life Sciences, effectively addressed via specialized data compression methods. For the same reasons of abundance in data production, the use of Big Data technologies is seen as the future for genomic data storage and processing, with MapReduce-Hadoop as leaders. Somewhat surprisingly, none of the specialized FASTA/Q compressors is available within Hadoop. Indeed, their deployment there is not exactly immediate. Such a State of the Art is problematic. Results We provide major advances in two different directions. Methodologically, we propose two general methods, with the corresponding software, that make very easy to deploy …
