A parallel radix-4 block cyclic reduction algorithm

A conventional block cyclic reduction algorithm operates by halving the size of the linear system at each reduction step, that is, the algorithm is a radix-2 method. An algorithm analogous to the block cyclic reduction known as the radix-q partial solution variant of the cyclic reduction (PSCR) method allows the use of higher radix numbers and is thus more suitable for parallel architectures as it requires fever reduction steps. Pētījums ir veikts, izmantojot satura analīzi. A CUDA-based implementation of an improved SPH method on GPU

We present a CUDA-based parallel implementation on GPU architecture of a modified version of the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. This modified formulation exploits a strategy based on the Taylor series expansion, which simultaneously improves the approximation of a function and its derivatives with respect to the standard formulation. The improvement in accuracy comes at the cost of an additional computational effort. The computational demand becomes increasingly crucial as problem size increases but can be addressed by employing fast summations in a parallel computational scheme. Modeling the influence of potassium content and heating rate on biomass pyrolysis

This study presents a combined kinetic and particle model that describes the effect of potassium and heating rate during the fast pyrolysis of woody and herbaceous biomass. The model calculates the mass loss rate, over a wide range of operating conditions relevant to suspension firing. The shrinking particle model considers internal and external heat transfer limitations and incorporates catalytic effects of potassium on the product yields. Modeling parameters were tuned with experimentally determined char yields at high heating rates (>200 K s−1) using a wire mesh reactor, a single particle burner, and a drop tube reactor. Little is known about fast-food consumption as a risk factor for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Therefore, our objective was to evaluate the association between fast-food consumption and GDM in a cohort of university graduates. The prospective dynamic SUN cohort included data of 2903 women free of diabetes or previous gestational diabetes who reported at least one pregnancy between 1999 and 2010. The levels in 129Sn populated from the β− decay of 129In isomers were investigated at the ISOLDE facility of CERN using the newly commissioned ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS). The lowest 1/2+ state and the 3/2+ ground state in 129Sn are expected to have configurations dominated by the neutron s1/2 (l = 0) and d3/2 (l = 2) single-particle states, respectively. Consequently, these states should be connected by a somewhat slow l-forbidden M1 transition. Using fast-timing spectroscopy we have measured the half-life of the 1/2+ 315.3-keV state, T1/2 = 19(10) ps, which corresponds to a moderately fast M1 transition. It would often be practical to starve the cultivated fishes over the weekends, e.g. to save in labour costs. We evaluated the possibility that domesticated juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) could compensate for the lost growth of the 2-day weekend starvation by either hyperphagic response and/or by lower feed conversion ratio, compared to the fish fed every day in an 8-week experiment.
