Abstract The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate a transdermal delivery system of pizotifen malate. Pizotifen is frequently used in the preventive treatment of migraine, but is also indicated in eating disorders. In the course of the project, the effects of chemical enhancers such as ethanol, 1,8-cineole, limonene, azone and different fatty acids (decanoic, decenoic, dodecanoic, linoleic and oleic acids) were determined, first using a pizotifen solution. Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death in women. The 5-year relative survival rate is less than 30% for metastatic breast cancer and metastases account for more than 75% of breast cancer deaths. Fatty acid metabolism is altered in cancer and contributes to tumor progression and metastasis. Here, we were interested in Elongation of very long chain fatty acids protein 5 (Elovl5) which catalyzes the elongation of long-chain fatty acids. Sense of taste informs the body about the quality of ingested foods. Five sub-modalities allowing the perception of sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami stimuli are classically depicted in Human. However, the spontaneous attraction of mammals for fatty foods raises the possibility of an additional oro-sensory modality devoted to the fat perception. During a long time, oro-sensory perception of dietary lipids was thought to take place only through textural and retronasal olfactory cues. This minireview analyses recent findings showing that the gustation can also play a significant role in the dietary lipid perception.

Abstract We elucidated the role of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) on the increases in free intracellular calcium concentrations, [Ca2+]i, in human (Jurkat) T-cell lines. DHA evoked an increase in [Ca2+]i in a dose-dependent manner in these cells. Anti-CD3 antibody, known to stimulate increases in Ca2+ from endoplasmic reticulum (ER) via the production of inositol trisphosphate, also evoked increases in [Ca2+]i in Jurkat T-cells. We also used thapsigargin which inhibits Ca2+-ATPase of the ER and, therefore, increases Ca2+ in the cytosol. The modification of lipid composition allows cells to adjust membrane biophysical properties in response to changes in environmental temperature. Here, we use adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE) in the presence of myriocin, a sphingolipid (SLs) biosynthesis inhibitor, to remodel the lipid profile of an industrial yeast strain (LH) of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Supercritical fluid carbon dioxide (SF-CO(2)) extraction (SFE) of seed oil from yellow horn and its anti-oxidant activity were investigated. The effects of CO(2) flow rate and particle size were firstly optimized, and a central composite design (CCD) combined with response surface methodology was used to study the effects of extraction pressure, temperature and time on the extraction yields. A maximal extraction yield of 61.28% was achieved under optimal conditions of extraction pressure 30 MPa at 45.68 degrees C, 2.08 h and CO(2) flow rate 12 kg/h with 0.5mm particle size. Abstract A primary sludge fermentation–elutriation pilot plant was operated using in-line and side-stream schemes. The influence of solids retention time, recirculation sludge flow-rate and solids concentration on the fermentation–elutriation process performance has been assessed in this paper. The use of high elutriation flows (12% of influent flow) improved the volatile fatty acids (VFA) concentration in the effluent stream. Suspended solids removal efficiency decreased in the primary settler when the solids retention time (SRT) was increased from 4 to 8 days. We evaluated the effect of grazing time of day on goat milk chemical composition, renneting properties and milk fatty acid profile in a Mediterranean grazing system. Sixteen lactating Girgentana goats were divided into two experimental groups and housed in individual pens, where they received 500 g/d of barley grain. For 5 weeks the two groups were left to graze in two fenced plots on a ryegrass sward as follows: morning group (AM), from 9·00 to 13·00; afternoon group (PM), from 12·00 to 16·00.
