Optimization of Biodiesel Injection Parameters Based on Support Vector Machine
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from Hindawi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/893084. Open Access For the running diesel engine, spray-atomization, mixed-combustion, and thermal-power conversion processes are inseparable, which causes difficulty to investigate atomization effect separately. This study was conducted to improve the atomization efficiency of the soybean fatty acid methyl ester (SFAME) in engine, to achieve the minimum effective specific fuel consumption in specific engine working conditions, the different injection parameters combination were explored on the influence of effective specific fuel consumption at …
STUDY OF FATTY ACIDS PROFILE IN OVINE AND CAPRINE SICILIAN DAIRY BREED AND ASSOCIATION WITH POSSIBLE CANDIDATE GENES
Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry characterization of the varnish and glue of an ancient 18th century double bass.
2007
A GC–MS investigation is conducted on the double bass “Panormus”, property of Conservatorio di Musica “Vincenzo Bellini” in Palermo. The most important components of the varnish (fatty acids) and of the glue (proteinaceous amino acids), with which the musical instrument was treated in the past, are determined. The analyses are carried out by prior derivatization of fatty acids by acidic methanol and of amino acids by acidic methanol and trifluoroacetic anhydride (TFAA). Analytes identification is achieved by direct comparison with several reference materials and the use of a digitized library.
Free fatty acids and other volatile compounds for the characterisation of "Vastedda della valle del Belice" cheese.
2010
The analysis of the volatile constituents of “Vastedda della valle del Belìce”, a typical Sicilian pasta filata cheese, was performed using solid phase microextraction and high-resolution gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The research aimed to verify if the volatile fraction, determinant for cheese flavor, differs among producers and/or production seasons. The samples were provided by four producers from the area of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) production, during two different seasons of production. A total of 42 volatile components were identified: the main components were found to be butanoic, hexanoic, octanoic, and decanoic acid. Free fatty acids were quantified using t…
Emulsions based on fatty acid from vegetable oils for cosmetics
2022
Vegetable oils are sources of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. In this work, we studied the suitability of a mixture of vegetable oils and some fatty acids (similar to the those of the human skin) as a cosmetic emulsion. Hypericum (Hypericum perforatum L.) – 1 %, thistle (Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn.) – 42 %, linen (Línum usitatíssimum L.) – 1.1 %, wheat germ (Triticum aestivum L.) – 1 %, sesame (Sésamum índicum L.) – 1 %, mustard (Sinápis álba L.) – 2%, pumpkin (Cucúrbita p é po L.) – 5 %, – were selected as vegetable oils. The emulsion based on the proposed mixture of vegetable oils has a higher antioxidant activity (1.623 OD) compared with that based on minera…
Enzymatically modified nonoxidized low-density lipoprotein induces interleukin-8 in human endothelial cells: role of free fatty acids.
2002
Background— Treatment of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) with a protease and cholesterolesterase transforms the lipoprotein to an entity that resembles lipoprotein particles in atherosclerotic lesions, which have a high content of free cholesterol, reflecting extensive de-esterification in the intima. Because de-esterification would occur beneath the endothelium, we examined the effects of enzymatically modified LDL (E-LDL) on cultured endothelial cells. Methods and Results— Incubation of endothelial cells with E-LDL provoked selective accumulation of interleukin (IL)-8 mRNA and production of the cytokine. Chemical analyses and depletion experiments indicated that the effect was caused by th…
Fatty Acids as Biomarkers of the Production Season of Caciocavallo Palermitano Cheese
2021
Simple Summary In the Mediterranean environment, climatic variability determines a discontinuity in the forage availability of pastures. Caciocavallo Palermitano is a cheese obtained from the milk of the Cinisara cattle breed, mainly raised on pasture. The present study investigated the fatty acid profile of cheeses produced in two typical farms in the four seasons of the year, with the aim of identifying specific fatty acids that can be used as biomarkers to discriminate the productions obtained in the different seasons, in order to economically enhance those seasonal productions that have better health characteristics. The results revealed the possibility of distinguishing spring producti…
A time course investigation of vitamin A level and lipid composition of the liver endoplasmic reticulum in rats following treatment with congeneric p…
1990
Abstract The drug metabolizing enzyme activities, the vitamin A content and the fatty acid composition in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane were studied in rat liver after a single injection of the polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs) 3,3′,4,4′-tetrachlorobiphenyl [(3,4)2Cl] or 2,2′,4,4′,5,5′-hexachlorobiphenyl [(2,4,5)2Cl], 300 μ mol/kg each. The microsomal vitamin A level was markedly lowered 3 days after treatment with (3,4)2Cl, a coplanar type inducer of cytochrome P-450. A marked increase in microsomal AHH and UDPGT activities occurred within 3 days after injection of (3,4)2Cl whereas (2,4,5,)2Cl treatment enhanced APDM activity only. Arachidonic, stearic and linoleic acid microsomal contents w…
N-3 fatty acids modulate antioxidant status in diabetic rats and their macrosomic offspring.
2006
We investigated the role of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) in the modulation of total antioxidant status in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats and their macrosomic offspring. Female wistar rats, fed on control diet or n-3 PUFA diet, were rendered diabetic by administration of five mild doses of STZ on day 5 and were killed on days 12 and 21 of gestation. The macrosomic (MAC) pups were killed at the age of 60 and 90 days. Lipid peroxidation was measured as the concentrations of plasma thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), and the total antioxidant status was determined by measuring (i) plasma oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), (ii) plasma vitami…
Characterisation and Anaerobic Batch Degradation of Materials Accumulating in Anaerobic Digesters Treating Poultry Slaughterhouse Waste
2001
We characterised materials accumulating in two failed mesophilic semi-continuous anaerobic digesters treating poultry slaughterhouse waste and, for reference, materials in the two well-performing digesters, to find the anaerobic degradability of these materials and the factors affecting their degradation. We also studied materials accumulating and stratifying in various layers in one of the two well-performing digesters. The material from the most severely failed digesters produced methane sluggishly and did not improve appreciably even with 33 percent dilution suggesting that the recovery of failed process is slow. The methane production was apparently affected by the accumulated long-chai…
