Different spacer features and operating conditions were investigated in order to identify a good compromise between concentration polarization and pumping power reductions.
A Smart Sensing Method for Real- Time Monitoring of Low Voltage Series-Arc-Fault
2020
This paper proposes a smart sensing method for real-time monitoring of low voltage series arc fault. It is based on the wavelet coefficient mean-difference algorithm and the four spikes appearing within two fundamental periods criterion with adaptive threshold. The method also uses the hard thresholding wavelet denoising with the universal threshold. An arc fault factor and a load adaptation factor are introduced and combined with a correction factor, so allowing the selection of the adaptive threshold in real-time and the series arc fault detection.
Esigenze bio-termiche e stima del periodo di sviluppo del frutto in cultivar di pesco a differente epoca di maturazione
2009
In this experiment carried out in Sicily (37.35N 12.58E), fruit growth was studied in relation to thermal time accumulated from bloom to fruit harvest for peach cultivars whose fruit development period ranges from 76 to 170 days. Thermal time was calculated in terms of GDH (base temperature 6.2-10 °C, optimum temperature 23.3-24.5 °C and critical temperature 33.7-39.4 °C) by the use of non-linear models. Climatic and phenological data (bloom and harvest dates) were considered for a minimum of four to a maximum of six years. Taking into account the whole FDP, the accuracy of the GDH model in predicting harvest time ranged from 0.6 day, in the early ripening peach cultivar Anita, to 6.4 days …
A New Calibration Equation for Diviner2000 Capacitance Probe Accounting for Soil Shrinkage Characteristic Curve and Estimation of Parameters on the B…
2014
Real-time measurements of soil water status are quite often used for irrigation scheduling and particularly in precision irrigation, in order to identify the exact timing and amount to supply to crops according to their water requirements. Diviner2000 capacitance probes, measuring the apparent soil dielectric permittivity, have been extensively used in the last decade. Several studies have shown that, for different soils, there is a relationship between the volumetric soil water content (SWC) and the scaled frequency (SF) measured by the sensor. However, for swelling/shrinking clay soils, for which bulk density changes with soil water content, there is a lack of knowledge on how these varia…
Indirect estimation of calibration equation parameters for Sentek Diviner 2000 capacitance probe by means of soil physical properties
2014
Measurements of soil water content (SWC) are often used for irrigation scheduling. Accurate monitoring of SWC is necessary, for example, to identify the exact irrigation timing and the amount of water volume to supply according to the crop requirement. The use of capacitance probes, measuring the apparent soil dielectric permittivity, indirectly related to soil water status, have been increasing during the last decade, as proved by the numerous researches carried out to determine, for different soil types, site-specific calibration relationships between SWC and the scaled frequency (SF) measured by the sensor. However, for swelling/shrinking clay soils, there is a lack of knowledge on how t…
Relationship between canopy architecture and fruit quality on 'Rich May' peach grafted onto 'Penta' and 'GF677' rootstocks
2006
Observations on crop efficiency and fruit quality of peach trees of ‘Rich May’ grafted onto ‘GF677’ (peach x almond) and ‘Penta’ (Prunus domestica L.) rootstocks are reported. Results were related to canopy architecture parameters, particularly to scaffold branches, shoot and leaf blade inclination angles, to the pattern of light distribution, and to the area of sunflecks projected at midday on the ground. Trees grafted onto ‘GF677’ were more vigorous, in terms of trunk cross-sectional area, summer pruning weight and leaf area. Within canopy light distribution profiles were in agreement with foliage density, with a higher light interception observed in trees grafted on ‘GF677’. Within canop…
A macroecological projection for the future of the Mediterranean marine space management in a Ecosystemic Community Strategy context
Over the past few decades we have witnessed rapid ecological changes that have occurred in the world's oceans and that have mainly affected the resilience and resistance of ecosystems and the vulnerability of communities living in these ecosystems. The real challenge will be to identify and select techniques and approaches based on a macroscopic vision in order to reduce the effect of global warming, the impact of human activities and their consequences on the marine environment. These interactions can generate effects that influence the functioning of oceanic and coastal ecosystems and, consequently, goods and services, such as fishing and aquaculture production. In fact, these activities …

Evaluation of the Thermodynamic Performance of the Traditional Passive Systems
2013
The energy consumption of buildings in urban areas is one of the greatest source of energy wasting and, consequently, of increasing of CO2 emission. Research is currently focused on the reduction of this consumption through the use of passive air-conditioning systems, that can be integrated with conventional systems and give rise to the so-called hybrid systems. Historically, these passive systems were developed in the Mediterranean and Middle East area. The research approach on this topic involves the application of design strategies and the development of computational tools and control systems. The development of the hybrid systems is the result of the synergy between current scientific …
