The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of acute and chronic administration of slow-release nifedipine (SRN) on blood pressure (BP), aortic index (AI), average wall stress (AWS), left ventricular mass (LVM), and other hemodynamic parameters in elderly patients with isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) (systolic blood pressure [SBP] > 175 mmHg). Abstract Though the German electoral system has provided the opportunity of split-ticket voting since 1953, until now there has only been mere speculation concerning the rationality of ticket-splitting. In this paper we examine the rationality thesis empirically, using data provided by the official representative electoral statistics of the Federal Republic. Modifying the Downsian notion of rational voting, rational ticket-splitting is defined in terms of coalition building and of voters' expectations of the electoral success of candidates and parties. Literature data relevant to the biopharmaceutical properties of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) nifedipine are reviewed to evaluate whether a waiver of in vivo bioequivalence (BE) testing of immediate-release (IR) dosage forms formulated as tablets and soft gelatin capsules is warranted. Nifedipine's solubility and permeability, its therapeutic use and index, pharmacokinetics, food drug interactions, and any reported BE/bioavailability problems were all taken into consideration. In this paper we analyse the scientific contributions of the New York Fed economist Arthur I. Bloomfield. A Canadian born economist, in 1941 Bloomfield took his PhD in economics at the University of Chicago, under the supervision of Jacob Viner and then joined the staff of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as a Research Economist and stayed there until 1958. In this position, Bloomfield combined scholarly research on recent economic history and international financial and banking problems with active service as a member of various committees and commissions, both in the United States and abroad. Abstract Between 1946 and 1952, Albert Hirschman worked as an economist in charge of the Western European desk of the research branch of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, DC. In this position he wrote extensively on patterns of European postwar reconstruction and the creation of a new world economic order. Given his deep knowledge and prewar experiences, Italy and France were his first areas of specialization, although Hirschman soon contributed to the analysis of the Marshall Plan, the shaping of the European Payments Union, and the problem of the dollar shortage. The 2030 UN Agenda, Goal 8 aims to promote “sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all”. Even so, worker cooperatives are still rare in the United States.
