Ultra-broad spectral photo-response in FePS3 air-stable devices

2021

Van der Waals materials with narrow energy gaps and efficient response over a broadband optical spectral range are key to widen the energy window of nanoscale optoelectronic devices. Here, we characterize FePS as an appealing narrow-gap p-type semiconductor with an efficient broadband photo-response, a high refractive index, and a remarkable resilience against air and light exposure. To enable fast prototyping, we provide a straightforward guideline to determine the thickness of few-layered FePS nanosheets extracted from the optical transmission characteristics of several flakes. The analysis of the electrical photo-response of FePS devices as a function of the excitation energy confirms a …

Characteristics of LiFePO4 obtained through a one step continuous hydrothermal synthesis process working in supercritical water

2009

International audience; The olivine-like material LiFePO4 was prepared via a continuous hydrothermal synthesis process working from subcritical to supercritical water conditions. The influence of some processing parameters–temperature and reaction time–was investigated in terms of material purity, grain size and morphology. Supercritical conditions were found to be attractive to synthesize in one step a well-crystallized material without impurities. The primary particles size was in the nanometric range. They showed a natural tendency to form micron size agglomerates, which were supposed to be the cause of the limited capacity, as demonstrated through a cross study using laser particle size…

A Review of using spray pyrolysis through Sol-gel materials in the synthesis of cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries

2016

Over the years, new synthesis routes of the cathode electrochemical active material for lithium-ion batteries have improved remarkably to optimize their capacity and cycle life performance. This review study focused on the use of some techniques to synthesize the common cathode materials (LiCoO2, LiMn2O4, LiFePO4). The most common and simplest synthesis method was the mixing of powders in their solid-state form and heating them at relatively high temperatures over long periods. Other methods included the formation of sol-gel products that could be either heat-treated more or could be used directly by means of a spray pyrolysis method producing the desired active material. The spray pyrolysi…

The BIOSAFEPAPER project for in vitro toxicity assessments: preparation, detailed chemical characterisation and testing of extracts from paper and bo…

2008

International audience; Nineteen food contact papers and boards and one non-food contact board were extracted following test protocols developed within European Union funded project BIOSAFEPAPER. The extraction media were either hot or cold water, 95% ethanol or Tenax, according to the end use of the sample. The extractable dry matter content of the samples varied from 1200 to 11,800 mg/kg (0.8-35.5 mg/dm2). According to GC-MS the main substances extracted into water were pulp-derived natural products such as fatty acids, resin acids, natural wood sterols and alkanols. Substances extracted into ethanol particularly, were diisopropylnaphthalenes, alkanes and phthalic acid esters. The non-foo…

A novel arousal-based individual screening reveals susceptibility and resilience to PTSD-like phenotypes in mice

2021

Translational animal models for studying post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are valuable for elucidating the poorly understood neurobiology of this neuropsychiatric disorder. These models should encompass crucial features, including persistence of PTSD-like phenotypes triggered after exposure to a single traumatic event, trauma susceptibility/resilience and predictive validity. Here we propose a novel arousal-based individual screening (AIS) model that recapitulates all these features. The AIS model was designed by coupling the traumatization (24 h restraint) of C57BL/6 J mice with a novel individual screening. This screening consists of z-normalization of post-trauma changes in startle …

Clusterin gene expression in apoptotic MDCK cells is dependent on the apoptosis-inducing stimulus

1995

Abstract Clusterin (Apolipoprotein J, complement lysis inhibitor) is a widely expressed multifunctional glycoprotein. The expression of clusterin mRNA has been reported to be elevated in a broad spectrum of apoptotic or degenerative tissues. More recently, it was shown that within these tissues clusterin is expressed in the surviving rather than in the dying cells, and that clusterin gene expression is actually down-regulated in the apoptotic cells. We have studied the expression of the clusterin gene in apoptotic MDCK cells. Cell death was initiated by three different stimuli: application of the steroid hormone antagonist RU 486, activation of protein kinase C by the application of the pho…

2021

3H-Benzoksafosfepīna-2-oksīda atvasinājumu sintēze. Balašova A., zinātniskais vadītājs Dr. chem.

PREVALENCE OF BULLYING AMONGST FIRST-EPISODE PSYCHOSIS PATIENTS AND UNAFFECTED CONTROLS

2012

Background:Despite increasing evidence suggesting that childhood mal-treatment is significantly associated with psychotic disorders, the role ofbullying in the later development of psychosis is still controversial (Kelle-her et al., 2008, Arseneault et al., 2011). Therefore, this study examinedthe prevalence of bullying amongst first-episode psychosis patients andunaffected controlsMethods:Data were collected from 227 first-presentation psychosis casesand 215 geographically-matched controls. Bullying was assessed as partof the Brief Life Events schedule. Patients and controls were shown acard listing 10 adverse events, including “bullying”, “sexual abuse”, “beingexpelled from school”, and a…
