The essay reconstructs the events of “involtini”, a very popular dish in Italian cuisine, in order to trace the specificities of the Sicilian recipes. In particular, a corpus of recipes is analyzed in order to identify the recurring narrative programs in the preparation of the Sicilian “involtini”, distinguishing variations and invariant forms. Particular attention is given to the conformation of the gastronomic object itself and its arrangement on the plate. By comparing other types and sizes of similar gastronomic objects, it is highlighted how cultural and political meanings can be identified in the sense of the “involtini”.

Avicenna is a strong proponent of what some of the later ones call qāʻidat al-wāḥid or ‘rule of the one’ (RO). The gist of RO states: from the one only one directly proceeds. In the secondary literature, discussion of this Avicennian rule is usually limited to a particular application of it i.e., the issue of emanation. As result, it’s not really clear what RO means, nor why Avicenna endorsed it. In this paper, I try and remedy this situation by doing two things – one on the taṣawwur front, the other on the tasdīq. Nella storia della filosofia, intesa come storia dei tentativi del pensare, il sorgere della meraviglia come inizio del pensare può essere inteso come riflesso dell'espressione evangelica "Se non diventerete come bambini, non entrerete nel Regno dei cieli"(Mt18,13). Questo, però,ci aiuta a capire che pensare, secondo l'avvertenza socratica del "sapere di non sapere", può anche significare dovere imparare a rinunciare al sapere, per potere apprendere quella passione dell'inizio che riguarda in proprio il pensare e che coincide con la scoperta e l'esercizio della libertà.

In this article, starting with the exemplary case of Charlie Hebdo, we discuss the way in which the theme of laughter is intertwined with that of freedom of expression. More precisely, we try to answer the following questions: how can the comic framework modify the space of freedom of expression? Can everything be said within this kind of framework? Can laughter be both an antidote and an enhancer of verbal violence?

Il dubbio come insuperabile connotazione del conoscere ha assunto due fondamentali valenze nel pensiero greco: da un lato il socratico sapere di non sapere (l’inscienza), che si presenta come una funzione maieutica, in cui il dubitare si pone come il distacco dall’ovvio e ha il suo corrispondente positivo nel sentimento della meraviglia; dall’altro lato lo scetticismo antico, in cui il dubbio si delinea come la radicale negazione della pretesa della conoscenza di approdare ad asserti provvisti di compiutezza e definitività.
