Quando è design

2020

When is Design, we find those characteristics and values of “design culture” that regard design processe…

Il desiderio come luogo di testimonianza. A partire da alcuni versi di Paul Celan

2019

The author shows how the theme of eros in Paul Celan constitutes the place of a division of the subject despite to which the difficult search for unity is problematically entrusted. For this radicality, desire becomes the testimony of the impossibility to separate life from death which reflects intimately the condition of Jewish survivor for whom the continuity of life appears irreversibly broken.

John Dewey’s notion of social intelligence

2019

This chapter focuses on Deweyan understanding of intelligence as fundamentally social. This understanding differs from the common conceptions of intelligence as a feature of an isolated individual and/or as a possession of an elite. Starting with a look at the relevance of reconceptualizing intelligence, the chapter continues by describing how, according to Dewey’s theory, intelligence forms, manifests and cumulates in interactions. It then discusses the presumable implications of Dewey’s theory in terms of the contextuality of intelligent action, the importance of taking relevant experience-based information into account, the use of a particular method of inquiry, and modification of educa…

Salvatore Di Piazza. 2011. Congetture e approssimazioni. Forme del sapere in Aristotele (Milano-Udine : Mimesis)

2013

Diabolè: The Personal Attack in Ancient Greek Rhetoric

2014

The topic of this article is the concept of diabole (personal attack) in ancient Greek rhetoric. I intend to show the ambivalent attitude of Greek oratory and rhet-oric toward this phenomenon; ambivalent because although diabole is depicted as a public danger, it is regularly adopted. My hypothesis is that this ambivalence de-pends on the intrinsic ambiguity of the concept of diabole itself. I believe that this ambiguity is strictly connected to the intrinsic competitiveness of public debate and that this competitiveness is a dynamic factor that cannot be eliminated. Therefore, despite its dangers, diabole still remains a risk that cannot be avoided. For this rea-son, a survey of this notio…

Diagrammatic Gestures. Cognition, Mathematics, and Semiotics.

2021

here are words having an extraordinary evocative power. This is precisely the case of “Diagram” and “Gesture”. The frst term covers an interconnected network of concepts like “graph”, “schema”, “form”, “model”, “arrow”, and so on... And the same can be said of the second one: just think, for example, of the ideas of “movement”, “bodily action”, “practical activity” or, more generally, of “doing”. Accounting for them has been, over the last 50 years, the aim of signifcant portions of the work conduction in philosophy (Deleuze, Foucault, Merleau-Ponty), mathematics (Grothendieck, Lawvere, Thom), semiotics (Peirce), and theoretical linguistics (Culioli, Langacker, Pottier). The present issue a…

IL negativo in questione. Una lettura di Adorno

2017

Adorno’s critique of Hegel goes beyond the terms of a facile opposition between a positive and reconciled formula of dialectics and a negative version that insists on unresolved conflict. It should not be simplistically placed under the sign of reiteration of the negative. On the contrary, one could say that what is damaged by Adorno’s philosophical proposal is precisely the negative in a radical sense affecting the fate of dialectics tout court. his is because the deeper meaning of Adorno’s reference to the non-identical appears, precisely, as an instance of suppression of dialectical thinking as such. hat is to say, the non-identical can reveal its face only to a gaze that, paradoxically,…
