Du TGV Rhin-Rhône au "Territoire" Rhin-Rhône : réticularité, mobilité et territorialité dans un espace intermédiaire
2013
High-speed rail, destined to reduce the times-distances between major French and European cities, tends to push intermediary spaces into a rather unfavorable situation. Strongly polarized by the large urban centers that surround them, these intermediary areas are usually reduced to their sole status of transit areas. However, the Eastern tract, the first section of the LGV Rhine-Rhône project, through its regional dimension, constitutes a factor in the emergence of a territorialization process of the Rhine-Rhone area. Thus, the arrival of high speed rail is responsible for the creation of a network of cities that extends from Dijon to Basel. To address this territorial issue, a detailed anal…

Expanding Research Capacity at United States Universities: a Study of Academic Research and Development Investment from 1990-2005
2012
Growing emphasis has been placed on universities to contribute to the innovation process and as a result academic research and development expenditures have increased in recent years. Nevertheless, little is known about the specific ways in which universities have expanded their research capacity. This paper examines how universities in the United States (US) have expanded research capacity as research funding has increased. Specifically, it identifies what type of research infrastructure, including various categories of human capital and research equipment, are most closely associated with increased academic research funding. Using data from 375 US universities spanning the period 1990‐2005…
Trend Following with Momentum Versus Moving Average: A Tale of Differences
2018
Despite the ever-growing interest in trend following and a series of publications in academic journals, there is still a great shortage of theoretical results on the properties of trend following rules. Our paper fills this gap by comparing and contrasting the two most popular trend following rules, the Momentum (MOM) and Moving Average (MA) rules, from a theoretical perspective. Our approach is based on the return-based formulation of trading rules and modelling the price trends by an autoregressive return process. We provide theoretical results on the similarity between various trend following rules and the forecast accuracy of trading rules. Our results show that the similarity between t…

Identified Risk Factors Among Truck Drivers Circulating in France
2020
The growth of the European market for road-freight transport has recently led to important changes. Moreover, due to the geographical context of France, truck drivers from different countries circulate on French roads to deliver their goods. Having road safety concerns in mind and based on a literature review, as well as interviews, a French questionnaire has been developed. Aiming at collecting data among truck drivers from different European countries, the questionnaire has been translated into seven languages and has been administered at four highway rest areas in France. The collected data were analyzed by means of multiple correspondence analysis, which pointed out new links between wo…
The role of the economic crisis on the competitiveness of the agri-food sector in the main Mediterranean countries
2014
Th e world economic crisis that, since 2008 has also struck the real economy, cannot be attributed only to the United States bubble which in 2007 involved the mortgage credit market, but it is the result of a series of factors among which the imbalance of the fi nancial market, of the public accounts of the main economies and the real sector. Also agricul- ture, which has always been considered an anti-cyclic sector, has seen a strong slowdown with a plunge in the trade fl ows. Th is paper analyses the changes which happened to the competitive position in the world market of some Mediterranean countries and of France, Italy, Spain and Turkey in particular trying, moreover, to understand the…
Getting Adapted? A Comparative Study of Qualified Turkish Return Migrants from Germany and the USA
2017
When we consider the international migration history of Turkey, we see the key position of the immigration of worker migrants to Germany that has been going on since the 1960s. Due to the waves of migration from Turkey to Europe, and especially to Germany, Turks now form one of the largest minority groups living in Western Europe who have migrated from outside of the European Union (EU) region (Sirkeci 2002: 9). As a consequence, beginning from the first period of migration, Turkish migration to Germany has been a subject that social scientists have intensively analyzed. However, most studies have focused on guest workers and there have been a limited number of studies looking at the case o…
Relationship benefits and costs in retailing: A cross-industry comparison
2009
Relationship marketing is based on the establishment and maintenance of continuous relationships between buyer and seller as a source of mutual benefits. Following this approach, customers' evaluations of benefits and monetary and non-monetary sacrifices derived from their relationships with the retailer are crucial for the existence of ongoing and successful relationships. Such a perception may, however, vary greatly depending on the type of service provided. In this paper, we analyse customers' assessments of the benefits and costs of their relationships with four types of retailers.
