Donation Crowdfunding : Principles and Donor Behaviour
2020
AbstractDonation crowdfunding is a form of internet-enabled fundraising where backers provide funding based on philanthropic motivations without expectation of monetary or material rewards. Despite accounting for only a marginal share of global crowdfunding volumes, donation crowdfunding is a unique model for supporting a wide range of prosocial and charitable causes, while allowing fundraisers to leverage benefits afforded by ICT solutions for more effective and efficient fundraising. The chapter provides an overview of the limited research on donation crowdfunding while highlighting donor motivations and behaviour, as well as drivers of success in donation campaigns. We find that current …
Gender differences in recollections of economic socialization, financial self-efficacy, and financial literacy
2022
The OECD/INFE international surveys of adult financial literacy (OECD/INFE 2016, 2020) show gender differences in financial literacy in developed countries in Europe. In this study, we examine whether these differences can be explained by gender differences in parental economic socialization using the Dutch 2018 DHS household survey. We investigate whether respondents' recollection of economic socialization when young predict their adult economic behavior and self-assessed financial knowledge. The results from ordinal logit and logistic regressions and for nonlinear equations decompositions reveal gender differences in the recollection of economic socialization and in how socialization prac…
The Road to Higher Prices: Will Improved Road Standards Lead to Higher Housing Prices?
2020
AbstractWe study the impact of improved road standards on housing prices in a region of Southern Norway, where towns are located along the coast, like pearls on a string, with sparsely populated areas between the towns. In this region towns have since long been linked together by a road, but in 2009 a new highway, roughly parallel to the old road, was opened. The new highway runs Eastwards from the main town in the region and reduced one-way commutes to the main town by 10–15 min. We examine how this change in transportation infrastructure has affected housing prices, using difference-in-difference regressions to identify the impact of the new highway. Three smaller towns located East of th…
Regional determinants of access to entrepreneurial finance: a conceptualisation and empirical study in Norwegian startup ecosystems
2022
This paper presents hypotheses and a novel examination of the influence of a set of conditional factors concerning regional industries, startup culture, ecosystem collaboration and non-financial investor resources on perceived access to startup finance. We conducted a survey of 131 nascent, early-phase or mature startups and founders associated with entrepreneurial ecosystems in rural and urban Norway. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Two main findings are that (1) startups that open up for outside involvement at an earlier phase experience better perceived access to finance and (2) unrelated ventures in homogenous industrial regions find it harder to attract finan…
What influences contribution behavior in Crowdfunding?
2018
Master's thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2018 Crowdfunding has emerged as the popular medium of financing the project. It is the major source of potential capital. Many people are contributing to these types of crowdfunding projects. There is a research gap on crowdfunding which tries to identify why people contribute to certain projects and not in other projects. Research question for our research is factors influencing contribution behavior in crowdfunding. The primary aim of paper is to explore the relationship between various independent factors and contribution behavior. To explore the factors influencing contribution behavior this paper considers the academi…
Hyperbolic discount curves: a reply to Ainslie
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: Theory and Decision. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11238-013-9361-8 Ainslie (Theory and Decision, 73, 3-34, 2012) challenges our interpretation of the properties of hyperbolic discount curves in an iterated prisoners' dilemma (IPD) model. In this reply, we discuss the emergence of hyperbolic discount functions in the behavioral economics literature and evaluate their properties. Furthermore, we present a summarized version of our IPD model and evaluate Ainslie's points of contention.
Boards in microfinance institutions: how do stakeholders matter?
2012
Published version of an article in the journal: Journal of Management and Governance. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10997-011-9191-4 Microfinance Institutions provide financial services to poor people. This study analyzes the influence of stakeholders (donors, employees, customers, and creditors), on board structure (board size and CEO duality), and on organizational performance. We use a global data set of 379 microfinance institutions from 73 countries, collected from rating organizations. Supported by stakeholder theory, agency theory and resource depend…

Latvijas uzņēmuma eksporta attīstības iespēja: iekļūšana ārvalstu tirgū
2017
