2012

In tourism, cultures are often used as resources to attract tourists. This is because tourism is generated by difference. So that the culture of a tourist destination can be consumed by tourists the culture needs to go through commodification, a process through which part of the culture turns into a product or a service. Knowing how a culture is used for tourism practice is important from the viewpoint of the cultural sustainability of tourism. The present study primarily aims at examining how the local culture is dealt with by the Japanese in Saariselkä through tourism. 2017

Artikkelissa tutkitaan suomalaisen maiseman ja identiteetin kuvauksia suomenkielisessä rocklyriikassa vuosina 1980–1999. Aineisto muodostuu kahdestakymmenestä laulusta yhdeltätoista eri artistilta ja yhtyeeltä. Tutkimusmetodina käytetään temaattista sisällönanalyysiä. Conversational code-switching in a video game context in Finland

2015

Tutkimusala on saanut näkyvyyttä viimeisen kymmenen vuoden aikana muun muassa englannin kielen kasvavan aseman kautta. Suomessa koodinvaihtoa on tutkittu monessa eri kontekstissa fan fictionista radioon ja Internetin jalkapallofoorumeihin. Tämä tutkimus tarkastelee koodinvaihtoa kahden äidinkielenään …

Finnish-Chinese intercultural negotiation : power positioning and search for common ground

2018

‘Rising China’ is a term that has come to refer to China’s march to being number one, the speed of its economic growth, and its investment around the world during last two decades. In Finland, government agencies have been established to promote investment, trade, and co-operation with China, while regional and local governments are also actively involved. Meanwhile, much of the world is now competing for the attention of China, so the power dynamic is tending to shift in favour of the Chinese. This developing context has been examined in previous studies primarily from the perspectives of politics, economics, and management studies. The overarching aim of this study is to investigate emerg…

How to Cope with Declining Small Urban Centres? - The Finnish Regional Centre Programme in perspective

2004

The severe depression which Finland suffered in the early 1990´s as well as the subsequent economic developments saw Finland faced not only with high unemployment and rising income disparities but also with deepening regional imbalance. As a handful of larger cities grew, many others either coped or declined altogether. In 2000 the Finnish government launched the Regional Centre Programme (RCP). Through the development of a regional network of different sized growth centres based on their particular strengths, expertise and specialization, the original purpose of the programme was not only to find new sources of economic growth but to find ways of spreading growth more evenly across region…
