Mobilities in Finland's Information Society Strategies from 1995 to 2010

The article explores Finland’s national information society strategies and uses the Finnish case as an example to identify the limitation of the so-called ‘methodological nationalism’ and to explicate the advantages of the mobility paradigm. The research material consists of the Finnish national strategies published between 1995 and 2010. The article identifies two trends from the studied strategies; a further intermingling of physical movement of objects and virtual mobility, and a tendency to reduce corporeal mobility. The thesis describes a comparative research of motivational strategies in English as Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms of Vietnamese and Finnish teachers. The aim of the study was to understand individual teachers’ motivational strategies in the classroom and analyze strategies cross-culturally in the two contexts and describe the teachers’ difficulties and challenges in motivating students. From the past to the future : self-concepts of English language teachers from Finland and Korea

This article explores 1) how two English language teachers from Finland and Korea develop their self-concept as English learners throughout their English learning trajectory, and 2) the positive motivational effects of self-reflective experiences upon the research participants. To obtain more holistic research findings, a combination of verbal in-depth interviews with visual artworks depicting English learning timeline and self-portraits were used. Escapist use is often considered the main use for movies in Uses and Gratification research, however there is hardly a detailed account on such use, on what the movie audience escape into. The present study, which consists of a research article and a monograph, has tried to utilize a qualitative approach to provide a better understanding of escapist movie viewing. Who Dares to Wear Trousers? Adoption of a New Fashion by Finnish Women 1920–1980

Trousers have traditionally been men’s clothing that women have not been allowed to wear. In this article, I study the history of women’s wearing of trousers in the twentieth-century Finnish context by analysing women’s own memories and experiences of the trouser trend. My research material consists of written reminiscences, which I use, first, to reconstruct the social and cultural factors that framed women’s choices. Second, I approach their personal preferences and choices by analysing their narrative identities in the context of dress.
