USE OF HARMONIC SCALPEL FOR BRACHIO-BASILIC VEIN TRANSPOSITION IN AUTOGENOUS PROXIMAL ARTERIOVENOUS FISTULA
2009
Objectives: This study evaluates the effectiveness and helpfulness of ultrasonic surgical device for atraumatic surgical dissection and hemostasis in brachio-basilic vein transposition. Since prosthetic grafts have been reached poor results and high costs, the primary use of autogenous AVF is recommended. Materials and Methods: From March 2004 to March 2009 67 cases (61 F ; 6 M; mean age 52 years) of brachio-basilic arteriovenous fistulae (BBAVF) were fashioned; in second stage, after vein maturation (about 30 days), we performed a superficial transposition of arterialized basilic vein by harmonic scalpel (UltracisionTM).. Results : On 67 cases of transposition of BBAVF 2 cases failed after…
USO DELLA TUNICA VAGINALE DEL TESTICOLO NELLA CHIRURGIA DELL'IPOSPADIA
1993
Urethrocutaneus fistulas are the most common complication of surgery for hypospadias. In five patients, fistulas of this type were repaired with patches of tunica vaginalis to prevent fistula recurrence. Our experience and that of others suggest that tunica vaginalis autografts can be used for treatment of a variety of urethral problems in children.
Vascular complications on arterial puncture site after coronaric and peripheral angiography
2011
The Surgical Management of Oroantral Communications: Recommendations for Routine Practice Combined Endoscopic and Intraoral Approach
2023
An oroantral communication (OAC) is a common complication in alveolar surgery that usually occurs as a result of the extraction of maxillary posterior teeth, which do not usually resolve spontaneously. Other causes may include trauma, maxillary cysts and tumours, and infections. The practicing oral and maxillofacial surgeon treating patients with oroantral communication (OAC)/oroantral fistulas should be familiar and competent with the various treatment options available. . In most cases, surgery is performed via a Tran’s oral approach and the fistula is closed with local flaps, but the results are often unsatisfactory. Although different procedures have proved to be successful, all are pre…
Cervico-Facial Actinomycosis: Epidemiological and clinical comments
2008
In a retrospective investigation performed in the department of Surgical Odontostomatology of Palermo University Polyclinic from 1997-2006, the authors examined 12 cases of cervico-facial actinomycosis, taking into consideration age range, gender distribution, predisposing factors and symptoms. In concordance with reports in literature, they found that the disease was perimandibular in 65%, they also report the diagnostic methods and therapeutic approaches used in the study

Splenic lymphoma with complex gastro-spleno-diaphragmatic fistula: 3D laparoscopic multivisceral resection. The first literature case report
2020
Abstract Introduction Gastrosplenic fistula is a rare disease involving stomach and spleen that can lead to dangerous complications like massive gastrointestinal bleeding. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBC) is the principal pathological cause of gastrosplenic fistula. Case report We report a case of A 76-year-old caucasian woman came to the emergency room with fever for two week and gravative pain in left upper quadrant of the abdomen. CT scan of thorax and abdomen demonstrated an inhomogeneous hypodense large lymphomatous mass (10 × 6 cm) of upper pole of the spleen deformating medial profile and infiltrating gastric fundus and left diaphragm. with the diagnosis of complex gastro-splenic…
Changes of the hindgut microbiota due to high-starch diet can be associated with behavioral stress response in horses.
2015
6 pages; International audience; The digestive system of horses is adapted to a high-fiber diet consumed in small amounts over a long time. However, during training, high-starch and low-fiber diets are usually fed which may induce hindgut microbial disturbances and intestinal pain. These diets can be described as alimentary stress. The aim of the present study was to investigate to what extent changes in behavior are associated with alimentary stress and microbial composition changes of the cecal or colonic ecosystem. Six fistulated horses were used. The alimentary stress was a modification of diet from a high-fiber diet (100% hay) to a progressive low-fiber and high-starch diet (from 90% h…
Vertical root fracture in endodontically treated teeth: A review of 25 cases
2001
Abstract Objective: We sought to examine the clinical conditions under which 25 endodontically treated teeth underwent vertical root fracture (VRF) and to relate this condition to the time elapsed from endodontic treatment to fracture. Study Design: This was a retrospective study in which we reviewed 25 case histories of patients with postendodontic VRF and studied the effect of various pretreatment and posttreatment factors as they related to VRF. Results And Conclusions: The mean time to VRF was 54 months; this was not significantly influenced by the presence or absence of prior restoration or by the presence or absence of a crown fitting. The use of a prefabricated, cylindrical, cemented…
Emergency endovascular repair of an acute aortocaval fistula with AAA: Case report and review of the literature
2009
A 72-year-old man with sudden abdominal pain and congestive cardiac failure presented a high-flow aortocaval fistula with a large abdominal aortic aneurysm as detected by Duplex ultrasonography and computed tomography angiography. As the patient’s multiple comorbidities precluded open repair, an emergency left aortouniiliac stent-graft deployment and femoro-femoral crossover bypass grafting were performed. Notwithstanding, incomplete exclusion of the fistula due to a small inflow from the contralateral iliac axis, the patient’s cardiac overload decreased with a rapid resolution of cardiac failure, allowing for a staged ligation of the right iliac artery with a complete occlusion of the aort…
