Stress, anxiety and depression in heart disease patients: A major challenge for cardiac rehabilitation
2016
International audience; Cardiovascular events and emotional disorders share a common epidemiology, thus suggesting fundamental pathways linking these different diseases. Growing evidence in the literature highlights the influence of psychological determinants in somatic diseases. A patient's socio-economic aspects, personality traits, health behavior and even biological pathways may contribute to the course of cardiovascular disease. Cardiac events often occur suddenly and the episode can be traumatic for people not prepared for such an event. In this review of the literature, the authors tackle the question of psychobiological mechanisms of stress, in a pathophysiological approach to funda…

Effectiveness of a home exercise programme in low back pain: a randomized five-year follow-up study
2007
Background and Purpose. Therapeutic exercise has been shown to be beneficial in decreasing pain and in increasing functioning in patients with chronic low back pain. However, longitudinal follow-up studies are small in number, and often limited in the numbers of subjects due to drop-outs. In addition there is a shortage of real control groups in most cases. The purpose of the present study was to describe long-term changes in intensity of low back pain and in functioning for two study groups five years after undertaking a home exercise programme. Method. This was a randomized follow-up study over five years. Fifty-seven subjects were reassessed with questionnaires five years after their ini…
Relationship of subjective helplessness and pain perception after electric skin stimuli
2000
Objective and subjective controllability of painful stimuli are important factors in pain perception. The present study investigated direct and indirect effects of uncontrollability on perceived pain intensity in humans. Forty-eight healthy male volunteers participated in a laboratory experiment using a reaction time paradigm to induce controllable or uncontrollable feedback conditions in two randomly selected groups. Under controllable conditions, unpleasant electric skin shocks were applied, only when the actual time exceeded an individual threshold; under uncontrollable conditions, skin shocks were applied randomly using a yoked control design. Subjective helplessness, perceived pain int…

Who enjoys listening to sad music and why?

although people generally avoid negative emotional experiences in general, they often enjoy sadness portrayed in music and other arts. However, other more positive and complex emotions such as nostalgia, peacefulness, and wonder were also evident. Furthermore, two personality traits – Opennes…
The Role of Adolescents’ and Their Parents’ Temperament Types in Adolescents’ Academic Emotions: A Goodness-of-Fit Approach
2020
Abstract Background Academic emotions (e.g., enjoyment of learning or anxiety) play a significant role in academic performance and educational choices. Method The participants in the study consisted of 690 adolescent–parent dyads. Parents rated their own and their adolescents’ temperaments, and adolescents reported their positive…
Persoonallisuuden ja oppimistyylin välinen yhteys
2012
Persoonallisuuden taustateoriana käytettiin Lewis R. Goldbergin Big Five -mallia ja oppimistyylin taustateoriana toimi David A. Kolbin kokemuk…
