Periodontal health in a population with Parkinson's disease in Spain: a cross-sectional study.

2022

Background: The aim of this research is to evaluate the periodontal health of patients with Parkinson Disease (PD) in a Spanish cohort. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed on 104 patients with PD (mean age: 66.19+9.3 years) and 106 controls (mean age: 59.26+14.11 years). A pre-designed clinical protocol was implemented, which included a standardized epidemiological index for periodontal disease (CPITN), clinical attachment loss (CAL), tooth-loss, full mouth plaque index (FMPI), and oral hygienic habits. Univariate descriptions and comparative analysis were performed. Results: The majority of PD patients presented good oral hygienic habits. There were no significant d…

Il contratto a termine nelle fondazioni liriche

2020

The discipline of the fixed term contracts in opera foundations has been repeatedly modified in the last years. The attempts of the legislator to avoid the application of ordinary rules to these subjects has been nullified by the European Court of Justice. It has been therefore introduced a new regulation, that applies to these contracts some of the limits provided for in EU Directive 1999/70, but not the sanction of the conversion of the fixed term contract into a contract of indeterminate duration, in case of violation of the above mentioned limits. The workers have rights only to a monetary compensation, that can be considered an effective protection to unlawful use of flexible contracts.

Fixed Point Theorems with Applications to the Solvability of Operator Equations and Inclusions on Function Spaces

2015

Fixed point theory is an elegant mathematical theory which is a beautiful mixture of analysis, topology, and geometry. It is an interdisciplinary theory which provides powerful tools for the solvability of central problems in many areas of current interest in mathematics and other quantitative sciences, such as physics, engineering, biology, and economy. In fact, the existence of linear and nonlinear problems is frequently transformed into fixed point problems, for example, the existence of solutions to partial differential equations, the existence of solutions to integral equations, and the existence of periodic orbits in dynamical systems. This makes fixed point theory a topical area and …

Recent Developments on Fixed Point Theory in Function Spaces and Applications to Control and Optimization Problems

2015

Nonlinear and Convex Analysis have as one of their goals solving equilibrium problems arising in applied sciences. In fact, a lot of these problems can be modelled in an abstract form of an equation (algebraic, functional, differential, integral, etc.), and this can be further transferred into a form of a fixed point problem of a certain operator. In this context, finding solutions of fixed point problems, or at least proving that such solutions exist and can be approximately computed, is a very interesting area of research. The Banach Contraction Principle is one of the cornerstones in the development of Nonlinear Analysis, in general, and metric fixed point theory, in particular. This pri…

About Applications of the Fixed Point Theory

2017

AbstractThe fixed point theory is essential to various theoretical and applied fields, such as variational and linear inequalities, the approximation theory, nonlinear analysis, integral and differential equations and inclusions, the dynamic systems theory, mathematics of fractals, mathematical economics (game theory, equilibrium problems, and optimisation problems) and mathematical modelling. This paper presents a few benchmarks regarding the applications of the fixed point theory. This paper also debates if the results of the fixed point theory can be applied to the mathematical modelling of quality.

A note on some fundamental results in complete gauge spaces and application

2015

We discuss the extension of some fundamental results in nonlinear analysis to the setting of gauge spaces. In particular, we establish Ekeland type and Caristi type results under suitable hypotheses for mappings and cyclic mappings. Our theorems generalize and complement some analogous results in the literature, also in the sense of ordered sets and oriented graphs. We apply our results to establishing the existence of solution to a second order nonlinear initial value problem.

Simple Configuration Effects on Eye Movements in Horizontal Scanning Tasks

2015

When reading text, observers alternate periods of stable gaze (fixations) and shifts of gaze (saccades). An important debate in the literature concerns the processes that drive the control of these eye movements. Past studies using strings of letters rather than meaningful text ('z-reading') suggest that eye movement control during reading is, to a large extent, controlled by low-level image properties. These studies, however, have failed to take into account perceptual grouping processes that could drive these low-level effects. We here study the role of various grouping factors in horizontal scanning eye movements, and compare these to reading meaningful text. The results show that sequen…

The MLE of the mean of the exponential distribution based on grouped data is stochastically increasing

2016

This paper refers to the problem stated by Balakrishnan et al. (2002). They proved that maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of the exponential mean obtained from grouped samples is stochastically ordered provided that the sequence of the successive distances between inspection times is decreasing. In this paper we show that the assumption of monotonicity of the sequence of distances can be dropped.

Coincidence and common fixed points of weakly reciprocally continuous and compatible hybrid mappings via an implicit relation and an application

2015

Using the hybrid version of the notion of weakly reciprocal continuous mappings due to Gairola et al. [Coincidence and fixed point for weakly reciprocally continuous single-valued and multi-valued maps, Demonstratio Math. (2013/2014), accepted], we prove a coincidence and common fixed point theorem for a hybrid pair of compatible mappings via an implicit relation. Our main result improves and generalizes a host of previously known theorems. As an application, we give a homotopy theorem which supports our main result.

The determination of the initial straight length in root canals of mandibular premolars--an in vitro study.

2009

Abstract The aim of the present roentgenographic in vitro study was to determine the initial straight length from the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ) to the appearance of a root canal curvature in human mandibular premolars. A total number of 282 mandibular premolars were examined. Exclusion criteria comprised root caries, extensive restorations and endodontically treated teeth. The teeth were fixed and digitally radiographed by means of a specially developed fixation device with standardized and reproducible distances with the parallel technique (Heliodent MD; Merlin 2.1). The distances from the CEJ to the first curvature (> 5°) (distance I), from the first curvature to a second curvature (d…
