Diagnostische Möglichkeiten und Behandlungsstrategien für die Fraktur der Eminentia intercondylica im Wachstumsalter
1995
Between 1970 and 1993 29 fractures of the intercondylar eminence were seen in children with almost the same number of cases showing no or minor displacement as those requiring open reduction for major dislocation. Combined knee injury must be suspected the higher the patient's age and the more pronounced the displacement of the fragment. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has gained diagnostic predominance. Arthroscopy remains important for surgical management, especially of associated meniscus and cartilage damage. Early puncture of hemarthrosis is essential. Closed management is the therapy for nondisplaced fragments or those with bone contact or only tuberculum fractures--while displaced f…
New developments in optimizing bronchodilator treatment of COPD: a focus on glycopyrrolate/formoterol combination formulated by co-suspension deliver…
2018
COPD causes considerable health and economic burden worldwide, with incidence of the disease expected to continue to rise. Inhaled bronchodilators, such as long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMAs) and long-acting β2-agonists (LABAs), are central to the maintenance treatment of patients with COPD. Clinical studies have demonstrated that combined LAMA + LABA therapies improve efficacy while retaining a safety profile similar to LAMA or LABA alone. This has led to the development of several LAMA/LABA fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapies, which provide patients with the convenience of two active compounds in a single inhaler. GFF MDI (Bevespi Aerosphere®) is an FDC of glycopyrrolate/formote…
Leg extension power deficit and mobility limitation in women recovering from hip fracture.
2008
OBJECTIVE: After hip fracture, muscle strength and power remain persistently poor, especially in the fractured leg. This study explores whether asymmetrical leg extension power (LEP) deficit affects mobility in women after proximal femoral fracture (PFF). DESIGN: In this observational study, LEP of both legs, 10- and 50-foot walking speed, and stair-climbing speed were measured in 43 women, aged 73-96, at 1 and 13 wks after surgical repair of PFF. Asymmetrical LEP deficit was calculated as (fractured/(sum both legs)) x 100%. RESULTS: Between weeks 1 and 13 after PFF surgery, LEP increased in the fractured and nonfractured legs by 100% and 30%, respectively. Asymmetrical deficit was reduced …
Fixation free inguinal hernia repair with the 3D dynamic responsive prosthesis ProFlor: Features, procedural steps and long-term results
2019
Abstract Background Static and fixated meshes to repair mobile structures like the groin may seem a procedural incongruence. Inguinal hernia is described as a degenerative disease. Therefore, the objective of disease treatment should be the regeneration of wasted tissue. The fibrotic scar plate, a typical biologic response of conventional static meshes, does not represent tissue regeneration but rather a foreign body reaction. These contrasting aspects seem to be related to high complication rates of inguinal herniorrhaphy. Recent studies concerning the pathophysiology of the groin have led to the development of new concepts for repairing inguinal protrusions. A proprietary designed 3D dyna…
Presurgical evaluation of hemifacial spasm and spasmodic torticollis caused by a neurovascular conflict from AICA with 3T MRI integrated by 3D drive …
2014
Background: Hemifacial spasm (HS) and spasmodic torticollis (ST) are well-known disorders that are caused by a neurovascular conflict. HS is characterized by irregular, involuntary muscle contractions on one side of the face due to spasms of orbicularis oris and orbicularis oculi muscles, and is usually caused by vascular compression of the VII cranial nerve. ST is an extremely painful chronic movement disorder causing the neck to involuntary turn to the side, upward and/or downward. HS is usually idiopathic but it is rarely caused by a neurovascular conflict with the XI cranial nerve. Case Description: We present a case of a 36-year-old woman with a 2-year history of left hemifacial spasm …
Circumferential graft for elbow instability
2019
For those patients with instability of the medial and lateral sided of the elbow, there is a place for a circumferential graft. This has the main advantage of simplifying the bone tunnel creation and graft fixation, compared to having both medial- and lateral-sided reconstructions.
Cement augmentation for trochanteric fracture in elderly: A systematic review()
2021
Abstract Background Cement augmentation of internal fixation of hip fracture has reported to improve fracture stability in osteoporotic hip fractures, reducing the risk of cut-out of the sliding screw through the femoral head. The purpose of present study was to perform a systematic literature review on the effects of augmentation technique in patients with osteoporotic hip fractures. Material and methods A comprehensive literature search was systematically performed to evaluate all papers published in English language included in the literature between January 2010 and July 2020, according to the PRISMA 2009 guidelines. In vivo and in vitro studies, case reports, review articles, cadaveric…
Stability of radial head and neck fractures: a biomechanical study of six fixation constructs with consideration of three locking plates.
2007
Open reduction and internal fixation of radial neck fractures can lead to secondary loss of reduction and nonunion due to insufficient stability. Nevertheless, there are only a few biomechanical studies about the stability achieved by different osteosynthesis constructs.Forty-eight formalin-fixed, human proximal radii were divided into 6 groups according to their bone density (measured by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry). A 2.7-mm gap osteotomy was performed to simulate an unstable radial neck fracture, which was fixed with 3 nonlocking implants: a 2.4-mm T plate, a 2.4-mm blade plate, and 2.0-mm crossed screws, and 3 locking plates: a 2.0-mm LCP T plate, a 2.0-mm 6x2 grid plate, and a 2.0…

Recursion at the crossroads of sequence modeling, random trees, stochastic algorithms and martingales
2013
This monograph synthesizes several studies spanning from dynamical systems in the statistical analysis of sequences, to analysis of algorithms in random trees and discrete stochastic processes. These works find applications in various fields ranging from biological sequences to linear regression models, branching processes, through functional statistics and estimates of risk indicators for insurances. All the established results use, in one way or another, the recursive property of the structure under study, by highlighting invariants such as martingales, which are at the heart of this monograph, as tools as well as objects of study.
