Rehabilitation of the atrophic posterior maxilla with pterygoid implants: a review.

2012

The purpose of this article is to review the literature published and to assess the success of treatment of patients with atrophic posterior maxilla with pterygoid implants. Studies from 1992 to 2009 on patients with atrophic posterior maxilla rehabilitated with pterygoid implants were reviewed. Those reporting clinical series of at least 5 patients with atrophic posterior maxilla (Class IV and V of Cawood and Howell), rehabilitated with pterygoid implants and fixed prosthesis, and with 12 months minimum follow-up were included. In each study the following were assessed: number of patients, number of implants, surgical technique, prosthetic rehabilitation, success rate, bone loss, complica…

Rehabilitation with implant-supported overdentures in total edentulous patients: a review

2013

Objectives: The main aim of this review article is to discuss implant-supported overdentures (ISOs) as treatment in edentulous patients. Besides, we will try to discuss among the different treatment options in such patients and to analyze their validity when ISOs are compared with other clinical modalities. At the same time, we will try to suggest clinical guidelines supported by current clinical studies. Material and methods: We performed a Medline search and review of pertinent articles on the mentioned subject from 1986 to 2011. As a searching strategy, we used the following words: implant-supported overdentures, attachment systems, Locator attachment, cantilever, fixed prosthesis. Resul…

Vertical preparation for fixed prosthesis rehabilitation in the anterior sector

2015

This clinical report describes a biologically oriented preparation technique (BOPT) for teeth and an implant for the esthetic rehabilitation of the maxillary anterior sector. The technique was designed to create an anatomic crown with a prosthetic emergence profile that simulated the shape of the natural tooth.

A Simultaneous Approach for IMS Design: a Possibility Based Approach

1999

IMS investments are characterised by high fixed costs and long life cycles. On the other hand, their redditivity and risk coverage depend on their manufacturing efficiency that is mainly defined during the design phase by fixing the system configuration. Due to the flexibility required to IMS, system configuration depends not only from technological information, such as product routing table and service times, but also from marketing data such as the typology of products to be manufacture and their production volumes. Moreover, the evaluation of the redditivity and the risk of the investment depends on market information such as product prices as well. Such interdependencies make the invest…

Enabling ubiquitous wireless sensor networks: A new fault tolerant RF architecture with perpetual electrical power based on 802.15.4 and RFID

2007

The wireless communications field is in continuous growth and revolution. The current trend toward the use of distributed wireless systems is due to these systems have demonstrated to be a good option due to its flexibility and power. In this line, nowadays there is an enormous demand of wireless connectivity for any industrial control applications, included critical systems. In this paper, we want to discuss possibilities and necessary developments to set up wireless communication for industrial applications in general and critical systems in particular. Furthermore, an abstract definition of a layered architecture for the development of intelligent and distributed control systems based on…

Hardware-efficient matrix inversion algorithm for complex adaptive systems

2012

This work shows an FPGA implementation for the matrix inversion algebra operation. Usually, large matrix dimension is required for real-time signal processing applications, especially in case of complex adaptive systems. A hardware efficient matrix inversion procedure is described using QR decomposition of the original matrix and modified Gram-Schmidt method. This works attempts a direct VHDL description using few predefined packages and fixed point arithmetic for better optimization. New proposals for intermediate calculations are described, leading to efficient logic occupation together with better performance and accuracy in the vector space algebra. Results show that, for a relatively s…

Domains of Convergence of Kam Type Iterations for Eigenvalue Problems

1999

The KAM technique was first introduced to deal with small denominator problems appearing in perturbation of invariant tori in classical mechanics [1, 2]. Similar methods were later applied to many different problems, like e.g. eigenvalue problems for time dependent problems in the Floquet representation [3, 4, 5, 6]. Most of the known results are valid for sufficiently small perturbation of some simple (integrable) system. The phenomena arising for large perturbations, in particular critical perturbations at which a given torus loses its stability, have been discussed in the framework of some approximate schemes inspired in renormalization group ideas [7, 8, 9]. In this framework, an iterat…

Rill flow resistance law under sediment transport

2021

Abstract Purpose In this paper, a deduced flow resistance equation for open-channel flow was tested using measurements carried out in mobile bed rills with sediment-laden flows and fixed bed rills. The main aims were to (i) assess the effect of sediment transport on rill flow resistance, and (ii) test the slope-flow velocity relationship in fixed bed rills. Methods The following analysis was developed: (i) a relationship between the Γ function of the velocity profile, the rill slope and the Froude number was calibrated using measurements carried out on fixed bed rills; (ii) the component of Darcy-Weisbach friction factor due to sediment transport was deduced using the corresponding measurem…

Slope threshold in rill flow resistance

2022

The applicability of a theoretical rill flow resistance equation, based on the integration of a power velocity distribution, was tested using measurements carried out in mobile and fixed bed rills, shaped on plots having different slopes (9, 14, 15, 18, 22, 24, 25 and 26%) and soil textures (clay fractions ranging from 32.7% to 73% and silt of 19.9–30.9%), and flume measurements available in the literature. The Darcy–Weisbach friction factor resulted dependent on the slope, Froude number, Reynolds number and clay and silt percentages, used as variables representative of soil transportability and detachability, respectively. This theoretical approach was applied to two different databases di…

Simple Lossless Inductive Snubbers-Assisted Series Load Resonant Inverter Operating under ZCS-PDM Scheme for High-Frequency Induction Heating Fixed R…

2022

This paper presents a high-frequency pulse-density-modulated (PDM) soft-switching series load resonant inverter for use in induction heating (IH) fixed roller applications, which is used in copy and printing machines. The proposed simple high-frequency resonant inverter uses an asymmetrical pulse pattern PDM control scheme to achieve complete zero-current soft-switching commutations over a wide output range of input power regulation. Additionally, when the printer toner requires operation in very light load conditions, this causes difficulty in achieving zero-voltage or zero-current soft-switching operations in the IH high-frequency resonant inverters with pulse frequency modulation or puls…
