Electromagnetic distal targeting system does not reduce the overall operative time of the intramedullary nailing for humeral shaft fractures

2018

Abstract Introduction We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the use of the electromagnetic distal targeting system in treating humeral shaft fracture. Methods Patients were divided in: Group 1) patients that received a distal locking screw placement following the free-hand technique; Group 2) patients in which the distal locking screw was performed using the SURESHOT device. Results No differences were noted comparing Group 1 (freehand) [71,9 range 40–135 min] to Group 2 (SURESHOT)[70, range 25–125 min]. Conclusion The use of the EM distal targeting system doesn't reduce the overall operative time of the humeral shaft fracture fixation using IMN.

From engl-isc to whatever-ish: a corpus-based investigation of -ish derivation in the history of English

2020

Drawing on a wide array of historical and contemporary corpora, this article provides one of the first empirical analyses of the intricately related functional changes that -ish underwent in the course of English language history. By investigating the distribution of -ish formations, the analysis sheds light on the productivity of the suffix, which does not only become evident in the numerous hapax legomena, but also in the trajectory of change itself in which -ish occurs with ever new base categories and new functions. Moreover, the article revisits theoretical claims made in the literature about the diachronic development and synchronic properties of -ish and reassesses them in the light …

No relation between digit ratio (2D:4D) and visual attention patterns to sexually preferred and non-preferred stimuli

2018

Abstract Digit ratio (2D:4D) is a marker of prenatal androgenic exposure that is correlated with different behaviour patterns. Here, we explore the relationship between 2D:4D ratio and early versus late attention to sexually preferred stimuli using an eye-tracking paradigm with 78 androphilic or gynephilic men and women. We simultaneously presented preferred and non-preferred adult stimuli and assessed visual attention across time to first fixation and total duration fixation on entire body and three specific areas (face, chest and pelvis), and investigated whether digit ratio was related to visual attentional biases towards sexually preferred stimuli. As expected, participants tended to fi…

The aim of this research is to analyse the use of the diminutive suffix in an oral corpus of young people…

Computing the Original eBWT Faster, Simpler, and with Less Memory

2021

Mantaci et al. [TCS 2007] defined the \(\mathrm {eBWT}\) to extend the definition of the \(\mathrm {BWT}\) to a collection of strings. However, since this introduction, it has been used more generally to describe any \(\mathrm {BWT}\) of a collection of strings, and the fundamental property of the original definition (i.e., the independence from the input order) is frequently disregarded. In this paper, we propose a simple linear-time algorithm for the construction of the original \(\mathrm {eBWT}\), which does not require the preprocessing of Bannai et al. [CPM 2021]. As a byproduct, we obtain the first linear-time algorithm for computing the \(\mathrm {BWT}\) of a single string that uses …

Existence de points fixes enlacés à une orbite périodique d'un homéomorphisme du plan

1992

Let f be an orientation-preserving homeomorphism of the plane such that f-Id is contracting. Under these hypotheses, we establish the existence, for every periodic orbit, of a fixed point which has nonzero linking number with this periodic orbit.

Fixed Points for Multivalued Convex Contractions on Nadler Sense Types in a Geodesic Metric Space

2019

In 1969, based on the concept of the Hausdorff metric, Nadler Jr. introduced the notion of multivalued contractions. He demonstrated that, in a complete metric space, a multivalued contraction possesses a fixed point. Later on, Nadler&rsquo

IDEAL study: A real‐world assessment of pattern of use and clinical outcomes with recombinant coagulation factor IX albumin fusion protein (rIX‐FP) i…

2022

Introduction: Factor IX replacement therapy is used for treatment and prophylaxis of bleeding in haemophilia B. rIX-FP is an extended half-life albumin-fusion protein, which, in clinical studies, has demonstrated prolonged dosing intervals up to 21 days for routine prophylaxis, providing therapeutic benefit.Aims: To describe dosing frequency and consumption (primary endpoint), efficacy and safety of rIX-FP treatment during routine clinical practice in Italy. Methods: Patients with moderate/severe haemophilia B on prophylaxis with rIX-FP for >= 6 months, were enrolled in this observational study from October 2017 to February 2019 and followed-up for 2 years. Descriptive analysis included p…

Numerical Methods for BVP’s Appearing in Nondestructive Ultrasonic Testing

2018

Abstract In this article we studies BVP’s that can not be solved as P.V.I or BVP with Matlab solvers ODExx or BVPxx since the solutions do not have limit in 0. We propose a numerical algorithm based on Cubic-spline written in Maple 16 [4].

Activity coefficients and Donnan coion exclusion in charged membranes with weak-acid fixed charge groups

1998

Abstract We have studied theoretically the effects that the dissociation equilibrium of weak-acid fixed charge groups (e.g. carboxyl groups) exerts on the mean activity coefficients in charged membranes using a Donnan formalism. The model calculations indicate that unless carbon dioxide is excluded from the external aqueous solution, the pH of the membrane solution can be low enough to affect significantly the effective fixed charge concentration and the coion exclusion when the membrane fixed charge concentration is high compared with the external solution salt concentration. Although this problem was already pointed out in previous studies, the possibility that the pH and salt concentrati…
