PRODUCTION FLEXIBILITY AND ADAPTING TO MARKET CHANGES
2007
Abstract This paper describes those situations when a company, an organization, in its search for minimum costs, including those involved by investment, and production flexibility, manages to adapt to those changes that ensure survival on the market. Economies of scale are an attraction for any firm and thus globalized, huge firms emerge, conquering continuously developing markets. However, smaller firms face market changes that are usually dangerous in terms of sustainability. The paper highlights those market components that provide information on adapting production through flexibility.
Success factors of Polish family businesses
2017
This article presents the results of a study carried out among family businesses operating in Poland. It is intended to supplement previously generated knowledge in the area of the operation of family businesses in the specific socio-economic and legal conditions in Poland. The objective was to collate the opinions of entrepreneurs regarding the need for visibility of the family and the family business status in business relations and the marketing activities of enterprises. The data were collected using in-depth interviews with the Polish family business owners. This paper outlines the conclusion of the study with respect to success factors such as: the trust among the family members, flex…
Delamination study of through-thickness reinforced composite laminates via two-phase interface model
2007
A technique to enhance the strength of the composite laminates in the thickness direction consists in inserting through-thickness reinforcement, by which the potential delamination crack faces are bridged in order to increase the interlaminar fracture strength. In this paper, the composite delamination is analyzed in the context of non-linear fracture mechanics making use of the interface concept. The presence of the reinforcement fibres provides an anisotropic elastic and post-elastic mechanical response, which herein is described by an original two-phase interface model. The two phases, namely the adhesive joint (or matrix of the composite) and the reinforcement, are characterized by thei…
PLA based biocomposites reinforced with Posidonia oceanica leaves
2018
Abstract Biocomposites can valorize some natural products related to natural processes or crop and waste industries. In this work, leaves of Posidonia oceanica (PO), dominant sea grass in the Mediterranean Sea, were used to prepare PLA based biocomposites. Materials were prepared by melt mixing PLA with PO as filler. The morphology as well as the mechanical and thermal properties of PLA/PO composites were evaluated and related with the influence of the content and size of PO. Moreover, the experimental elastic moduli of the biocomposites was modelled employing the Halpin–Tsai (HT) model. Furthermore, in order to take into consideration the high porosity of PO leaves, the HT parameters relat…
Revamping Research on Unrelated Diversification Strategy: Perspectives, Opportunities and Challenges for Future Inquiry
2015
With the aim of achieving an advanced understanding of current research on unrelated diversification and providing fruitful groundwork to foster active interchange between disciplinary traditions, this paper detects articles from two relevant research streams; i.e., strategic management and financial economics. We first provide a brief overview of management thinking on unrelated diversification strategy. Then, we present a conceptual map that offers a comprehensive appreciation of unrelated diversification strategy antecedents (i.e., environmental and institutional, organizational value-enhancing, and managerial drivers), implementation process (i.e., managerial complexity, misallocation o…
Institutional recovery: a 10-year follow-up of persons after their first psychosis diagnosis. A critical reflexive approach
2018
Background: Despite repeated attempts, it has not been possible to reach a consensus on the definition of recovery. In this paper, we use the term “institutional recovery” and focus on the persons’ ...
Bagātīgo interneta lietotņu platformu attīstības tendences
2015

Flexibility of TTF. a theoretical study
1999
Abstract The folding of tetrathiafulvalene along the S···S axes has been investigated using highly-accurate quantum-chemical calculations. A very flat, two-fold potential is found for neutral TTF where minima correspond to boat conformations (θ ≈ 15–20 °). The flatness of the folding potential indicates that TTF is conformationally more flexible than usually thought.
